As a Lead Talent Acquisition Partner at Royal Caribbean Group, I am passionate about helping people find the next piece of the puzzle in their career journey. I lead the recruitment for leadership roles in various business groups, such as HR, Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, IT, Medical, and Newbuild. I leverage data analytics, employer branding, and diversity and inclusion strategies to attract and retain top talent in the cruise industry. 

I hold a Master of Science in Management from the University of Florida, where I also completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I have also obtained a Certificate of HR Data Analytics from Cornell University and participated in business and Spanish exchange programs at Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and Universidad de Salamanca. I am fluent in English and Spanish and have a Bloomberg Certification and a Certified Gator Professional credential.

I saw a post about someone starting a new role as a barista and I think posts like this should be celebrated!

This is one of the worst job markets we’ve seen, where it’s becoming more and more common to have long term job searches for 6+ months.

ANY income should be praised.

We should celebrate a person doing what they can to support themselves and their families. 

If a hiring team sees a "gap” on a resume where a candidate did something non traditional to their role it should be viewed as a sign of adaptability and perseverance.

Congratulations to all of you starting ANY role this week- it’s a HUGE accomplishment and should be celebrated.

Hiring Manager: Why hasn’t this role been filled yet?

Hiring managers: if you are committing to hiring for a role (especially one you want filled quickly) it needs to be as much priority for you as it is for the recruiting team.

Slowing down the process hurts candidates, recruiters, and teams as well because there are gaps open for longer.

Let’s all do our part to commit to quick hiring processes.

I once had a company ask for pay stubs during an offer negotiation.

I was finishing up a lengthy interview process and was so excited when I got the news that the team was moving forward to offer.

I let them know what my target range was, and they countered and asked what was my current pay.

Confused, I asked why they needed to know this information.

They said the CEO only approves a max 10% pay increase of a candidates most recent base salary for incoming candidates.

I was shocked- As a recruiter I know this is illegal in a lot of states (and bad practice in all) and chose to decline the offer.

Your current salary should not play a role in your offer negotiations, and a company that doesn’t value candidates through the interview process won’t value them as employees.

Why is this something we’re proud of?

If a role is entry level - 0-1 years of experience should be standard.

If that person (regardless of age) was the most qualified person for the job they should get that role.

We shouldn’t be proud of not being biased during the hiring process- this should be the standard. 

It shouldn’t be shocking or groundbreaking to hire someone who fits the qualifications for the job- anything outside of that shouldn’t be taken into consideration when making a hiring decision.

You don’t have to be a recruiter to post your company’s open jobs. 

I can’t begin to count the number of people who have landed opportunities because they saw others in their network talk about openings on their teams (I was one of those jobseekers).

While people can put job alerts on here, if you’re not adding the right keywords you may be missing a lot of jobs available on the market.

We can all play our part in helping job seekers, and if you know of an opening on your team or company- your post could be life changing for a person who otherwise may have missed it.

Woke up today and couldn’t be more grateful for the now 300k of you!

As some of you may know, growing a community on here was never initially my intention.

As a jobseeker myself, I started posting when I was furloughed from my job in the hopes of making a few connections for a new job.

2 layoffs later ➡️ I’ve been sharing all the tips and tricks of how I “Job Hunted Like A Recruiter” and it resonated with more people I could have imagined.

I know many of you may be in your own searches today, and if there’s any advice I can give its to never underestimate the power of community.

There should be no stigma around why you did or didn’t accept an offer.

In the past, I’ve accepted an offer for:

- Money

- Career Growth

- Leadership

- Loving the company’s product

- Work Life balance

No reason is more valid than the other.

Everyone has seasons in life where certain key factors are more or less important to them. 

At the end of the day, an offer signifies a new chapter which is exciting and should be celebrated regardless of why you accepted.

Don’t let anyone tell you that a job search strategy is full proof.

You could:

- Have a perfectly tailored resume and not get chosen for an interview.

- Prepped for hours down to learning the company 10k and get passed over for another candidate 

- Have an offer be rescinded du to company restructures 

While there are tips and tricks to navigating each stage of the recruiting process, be wary of anyone who tells you there is a full proof strategy in the job search.

Some people will get jobs through referrals, others through networking and (I know it seems impossible these days) but people are landing roles by cold applying online.

Everyone’s career path is different and what may work for one person isn’t going to work for another’s.

Recruiters: coach your candidates through the interview processes.

No ones full time job is interviewing.

Even folks whose roles are focused on communicating don’t have practice answering “Tell me about yourself” questions.

Being clear on what will be asked in the next call and what things stood out from your conversation and should be highlighted in the next evens the interview playing field and gives candidates a better shot of excelling.

I have spoken to some of the most intelligent people in the industry who just need time to process answers before replying and if they go into interviews blind there is a chance the team will pass because they weren’t able to see their value.

At the end of the day, a successful interview is largely dependent on the candidates research and preparation, but our roles as talent advisors should be to guide them so their best selves can shine giving the interviewers the best shot at assessing their skills.

I was absolutely terrified to quit my first job out of college.

I initially accepted an offer to be the District Manager for a grocery chain and was wowed by the flashy car and benefits.

Fast forward a few months into the role and I was absolutely miserable.

I resented the car I was so excited about because I associated it with having to drive 4 hours in the night to make it to another city for a 9 AM meeting.

The comp that I was initially star struck by never stacked up after I quickly realized I was going to be working 16+ hour days and holidays.

I ignored a lot of red flags out of the fear of being labeled as a “quitter” or “job hopping” but in reality it was the best decision I ever made.

I left, went back to my schools career fair and ended up in a career and industry that I loved and that would have never happened if I stayed in the other role out of principle.

This isn’t to suggest that everyone who doesn’t like their job should leave because there’s a lot to say about financial security, but you also have to listen to your gut if you know an opportunity isn’t right for you.

Sometimes, current stagnation is the biggest blocker to future growth.

Employers need to show some basic understanding to their employees.

In one of my earlier roles, I was part of a team that had monthly state wide meetings.

Due to policy at the time, myself and another employee who were the farthest city away weren’t eligible for hotels so we would leave at 5 AM every month to make our 9 AM meetings. 

As carefully as you can plan, sometimes obstacles arise and there was one day where there were multiple crashes (including a car on fire) blocking off most paths there leaving us 2 minutes late to that meeting. 

My manager pulled me aside after and told me this was grounds for firing because it showed I wasn’t being respectful of time.

While I can agree timeliness is an important factor, this conversation left me gutted and ultimately was one moment I pointed back to when I decided to leave.

Employees care a lot more than you think, and sometimes it’s not a simple answer like compensation or flexibility of why someone leaves, but rather is how they were treated along the way.

Had a rousing table discussion with my family on this topic. 

Then we went on to discuss whether the classical author John Chrysostom should be pronounced Chris-SOSS-stum or KRIS-oss-stom. Mum found 4 out of 5 pronouncers who voted for the latter, while my husband + Emma the pronouncer voted for ‘Chris-OSS-stum’ (is awesome). 

Because that’s the kind of high jinks we go in for on Friday nights.

Plus we’re now watching Pumaman narrated helpfully by two robots and a space mechanic.
