I'm going to share a dark secret about my marketing life

You see, I used to be a content evangelist

A total believer in "ALL I HAVE TO DO IS POST EVERYDAY AND IF MY CONTENT IS GOOD ENOUGH, I'LL GO VIRAL AND GET INBOUND ORGANIC LEADS!!"

Spent a little over a year on that

With no sales (except for one, which I got through having a conversation in the DM's)

I spent 10K on a marketing program that yes, elevated my mindset, and no, taught me nothing about how to ACTUALLY GET CALLS BOOKED

It was nuts, I went totally broke.

This marketing company was literally pulling thousand dollar chunks out of my bank account while I had NOTHING. Leaving me at over NEGATIVE 1-2 thousand dollars at times.

It was insanity

Then I met a guy, his name is Dan.

Dan took a chance on me, and he changed my life

He gave me six weeks free access into his marketing program

And in a few sessions, he gave me the power to build a sustainable six figure business, the freedom to move to Rio de Janeiro, the certainty to take vacations..

Without ever again needing to worry about if I could book more calls and win more clients

So right now, your DM's are in a state of what I call "unused profit capacity"

We all have it in one way or another (most often in many ways)

And yours is literally staring you in the face right now..

Because here on LI, you're sitting on a GOLDMINE!

Look at all those followers you've got. They're locked in their Pokéballs, just waiting for you to call on them

So you've got two options:

 'Post and pray' that the algorithm will be nice to your content today

Or grab your business by the "balls", proudly exclaim what you've got to pitch, and then throw the right offer in front of the right person in a DM

What's the worst that can happen?

I want you to seriously think about that..

Got a cheap imitation DM that would make even the robots shake their heads..

Went like this:

"Thank you Ryan.

Are the coaches you support looking to expand into the Collaborative workforce development and Employee-Centered leadership field?

Charismatic resources do spark wonderful coach speaking engagements."

…

Huh?

A fatal flaw many make in their marketing is to use "sophisticated language"

Thing is, it doesn't matter if your ideal clients like to read research papers. When it comes to wanting to buy, we're all the same

If something isn't easy to understand or entertaining, all it takes is a quick flick of the thumb to find something else that is

So if you want to sell?

Only easily digestible words that tell a story, paint a picture, and create emotions will do it.

For that you've gotta be simple, concise, and fun.

When you are, THEN your people will respect you. They'll see you as one of them. Look up to you, and want to know more about what you can do

AKA respond to your calls to action and buy from you..

Many of y'all caught my story post from Friday about how I use the DM's to book copious amounts of sales calls in an honest-to-goodness and non-robotic way

5 so far this week, in fact

Takes me about 30 mins a day with my current strategy

Not only are they prospects, but prospects who already want what I'm selling!

So hey, get off the "post and pray" rug and get on the "send the DM" rocket ship with me

And think about this real quick:

How many high level CEO's do you know who scroll LI all day just waiting for your post (that most likely has no call to action anyways?)

That's why you need the DM's, (plus email, direct mail.. and to get the attention of someone in Canada, perhaps the gift of a beaver tail)

Anyways, enough weird post-surf high thoughts

Here's how I micro-improve my life a bit more every night:

I've got a good setup for working now

I've got a comfy two bedroom apartment in Rio de Janeiro, on the south side of the Copacabana neighborhood, where Im a 3 min walk from Copacabana beach one way, and a 10 min walk to Ipanema beach the other

I love it here. 

The weather is always warm (you can go out in a t shirt year round, you can lay out in a bikini year round ((not me of course..)), there is always something to do (if not the beach, the lagoon, a rainforest hike, or a samba, or restaurant)

My neighbors are lively and laid back. Everyone likes to do their own thing amongst each other. You won't get bothered by anyone, but when you start talking, you may as well have already been friends

Just how I like it

It's no wonder why so many who move here, stay here. Not just foreigners, but all Brazilians know that Rio de Janeiro is the city most marvilhoso

So what's this got to do with YOU making more moolah? That's the bottom line, isn't it?

Well if you're expecting some kind of easy-to-implement, immediately-effective marketing tactic in this post, you ain't gonna get it

But for anyone who's smart enough to be open to the fact that a prosperous business has more to do with your mind than it does you pen, you'll see that what I'm saying in this video is the best "trick" there ever was

And you can use it to improve your life tomorrow! (And every day after that with compounding effect)

My religion of directing my thought has gotten me everything I've ever wanted

There is only do it, or don't, no in between

Do it, and you get what you think about

Don't and you get what everyone else thinks about

Very simple, very real

"What's he doing?"... "I love this part. He does this Zen Sherlock Holmes thing"...

I was watching an incredulous scene in the first episode of the show Monk, where he's in "Monk Mode"

(If you haven't seen the show, well, you missed out on a great piece of television and I'm very curious as to what kind of strange life you must have had)

Basically he makes funny faces, closes his eyes, and starts pointing at things, seemingly randomly

What he's doing is analyzing everything, and connecting the dots..

In this scene in particular, he sees that draw cord to the blinds is curled up, meaning that the shooter wrapped it around the barrel of his gun to stabilize it (a Green Beret trick he says)

Judging by the height of the curl, the man is 6' 3"

Then he smells the curtain.. the shooter smokes Newports

And wears slippers

These are all details that no other detective on the scene would have, well, seen..

So what's the takeaway here?

If you can't solve the crime of your business not growing as fast as you'd like, you too can hire a specialist to see the things you can't

I just so happen to know a couple of guys

They're just as wacky as Monk, and their ability to connect dots in business that create massive streams of revenue out of seemingly nowhere, is just as koo koo.

Why, I hear they just recently helped a client turn their small and nearly dead email list of around 400 leads into 180 signups for a webinar, 25 booked calls, and made $29,400 for their new offer

Wow, now that's some top notch work, detectives

What a lesson in creative marketing I got yesterday..

The "attraction" you're looking at here, is called "A Escada da Democracia"

For all you idiots who don't speak Portuguese, thats, "The Ladder of Democracy"

(Hope that was funny)

Price of admission: R$5

What do you get?: 1 minute to climb up and down the ladder

That's right..

You're gonna pay to do something you normally wouldn't, unless YOU were the one getting paid!

They don't teach this stuff in business school 

But this specific "pay to climb a ladder scheme" only works when you've got your marketing right: 

Yesterday there was a "Patriots rally" for supporters of right-wing former president Bolsonaro

Like right wingers in the States, the Brazilian right also uses ideas of Patriotism and Law and Order as calling cards for being united under the same ideals

So take a ladder, hang up a flag underneath, name it "A Escada da Democracia", and Oba!

You've created a business from things that were sitting in your garage just an hour ago..

But like I said, certain "conditions" had to be in place for it to work. JUST like they need to be in place for your business

These are the conditions:

1. Environment

A ladder is just a ladder until you set it up at a rally, where people are coming all from all over to visit, and who want a nice photo to remember the occasion

2. Message

A ladder with a flag is one thing, but that means nothing without the idea of what it represents..

If you climb the ladder, you show everyone that you champion the ideals of democracy, freedom, and progress

3. Target market

Combine the perfect environment with the perfect message, then put it in front of the perfect people

…Nothing new here to learn people!

I'd say most coaches I see are throwing up ladders, but the way they describe their ladder doesn't make it seem valuable enough

Know what I mean?

They're naming theirs, "Karen's ladder", or "Ladder with 20 steps" or something boring and uninteresting like that

If only they had a better way to describe what their business does, aka had better sales messaging, they'd have customers climbing up and down them!

They'd have to buy another ladder!
