3 years ago I was struggling with burnout, emotional regulation and chronic insomnia. 

Now I live everyday with intention and purpose as the CEO of my life.

Here are 7 strategies that helped take back my life:

1) Creating boundaries to protect my energy

3) Identifying and eliminating any toxic behaviours I was tolerating

The content creation overwhelm was real, until I figured out how to tame it.

It was the same process, day after day.

I sat down to write and suddenly a thousand ideas surfaced and were all vying for my attention.

After an hour of failed attempts
nothing had been written 
no stories shared
no messages
delivered

Doubt set in
I can't do this
I don't know how

and then judgement
I should be able to
everyone else can 

Click, the laptop closed.

I sat there in confusion, neatly wrapped up in a blanket of defeat and overwhelm.

Overwhelm.   

Then I remembered what my trauma coach taught me:

The overwhelm you are feeling is a hot sticky mess of thoughts, emotions and feelings that you are trying to process as one "thing", when really it is 3.

 ask yourself:

-what are you feeling?
-what thoughts do you have?
-what emotions are you experiencing? 

Name them, take a few deep breaths and allow them to be. Then notice the space that opens up between them.   

When it does, that is a space for you to express yourself lead by your heart. It will be aligned with what you are wanting to create, not what you are forcing.

You know what I have learned?  

When you write from this place the words flow and you feel lighter.  You see more engagement and have more offline conversations.

I think the people can tell when something is written from being heart centred or forced because we feel we need to.

10 Questions You Can Ask to Understand Your Customers Needs and Product Fit.

Asking your customers about their business and industry insights is like peeking into a treasure trove of valuable information!

Here are some key reasons why it's important:

• Understand their needs and challenges
• Identify new product or service opportunities
• Build stronger relationships and trust
• Insights to improve business operations and strategy
 

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟭𝟬 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗸:

1. What are the most pressing challenges your industry is facing right now?
→ Identifies key pain points in their industry.

2. What emerging trends are you noticing in your market?
→ Gathers information on market trends.

3. Is there a specific product or service you wish was available but isn’t?
→ Reveals gaps in the market that you or your customers could potentially fill.

4. How do you currently address the challenges you mentioned?
→ Identifies existing solutions and potential opportunities for new products/services.

5. How do you see these challenges and trends evolving over the next year?
→ Provides insight into longer-term market dynamics.

Writing on LinkedIn doesn’t need to be perfect! 

Scrolling through the feed over the weekend the posts that caught my attention had one thing in common:

Personality.

Glimpses into who the creator is
their thoughts 
their values

It created a warm sense of connection, like when you go for coffee for a friend. 

Suddenly you’re interested in who they are and want to know more. 

Genuine heartfelt curiosity. 

It made me think of my son’s communication device. Every day I program it with a few short messages that he can share with his peers. (He is non verbal)

Nothing extravagant or complex, just insight into his life so people can get to know him and so he can share his life.

I think the same is true here. 

Just sharing our everyday lives builds connections.

So if you’re not sure where to start, here are a few things you can share:

- stories 
- insight
- support
- experiences
- point of view
- your favourite (X)
- what you do + why

And if you are already sharing, thank you. 

If you haven’t, the world is waiting!  

Remember sharing is never perfect, it’s human and that’s what makes it so great.

I remember watching a colleague at a networking event, he seemed to ooze confidence. 

It seemed no matter what happened he was unfazed. He could have been dropped into a political debate and won the hearts of the audience. 

What if I told you, you can do the same.  

Confidence is something you can consciously cultivate. 

💥It is the result of competence.


𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵.

The key is assessing and specificity.


Here's a personal example. 

Networking events made my skin crawl.  

I love people but being in a space with so many people having to navigate conversations was too much for my nervous system.  I told myself I lacked confidence.

So I broke it down:

Did I like talking to people - yes

Then what specifically was the challenge? 

Overwhelm: too much stimulation.  I didn't feel safe. I was hyperaware of everything going on around me, it made it difficult to be present.  

Conclusion: I needed to feel safe.

What could I do:  assess the room layout and the crowd before engaging


Here's what I started doing before events:

• got the event map and studyied the physical layout
  
• visualized walking into the event and seeing the layout
  
• at the event I gave myself time to assess my surroundings before engaging
  
• where possible started with my back to a wall

This built my safety competency, so I could start engaging without overwhelm. As a result I am very confident at networking events now.

But without digging deeper I most likely would have tried to fix the wrong thing - how to network better.  


Whether is it cold calling, public speaking or writing a social media post you can build confidence through competency.  Here's how:

1️⃣ Identify area of low confidence

2️⃣ Identify what specific aspect of that area

3️⃣ Is there a triggering feeling or emotion?

4️⃣ What could it look like?

5️⃣ What do I need to take action?

6️⃣ How can I get deliberate exposure and practice?

I changed this 1 thing and broke the company sales record in 4 months.


I was in a junior sales role and eager to make an impression.  Fiercely competitive my goal was to break the monthly sales record within 6 months.

2 months went by and I was barely getting any interest.

1000’s of calls.

Dial after dial.

I knew the script like the back of my hand. Every word etched into my brain.

On one call a very agitated owner barked at me. “You don’t even know if that is a problem I have”.

Full stop. 

“You don’t know if that’s a problem I have”.

He’s right, I was assuming he had the problem I was trying to fix.

So I flipped my script and started sharing stories of clients in their industry who had experienced similar problems. 

I shared how it effected their business and what happened after they started working with us. I made it as personal as possible.

I broke the record 5 months later. 

Assuming a problem tanked my sales, fortunately I had it pointed out early on in my career.

Day 3 of #community130  I had to HALT yesterday when I got pushed over in Costco.

But first here is todays activity update:
 
- drafted lesson for creating sales confidence
- 5 new connection requests sent
- setting up a complimentary sales support call link in my featured section 


Now about Costco!

I ask myself every year why I renew my membership. I don't find Costco to ever be a "fun" experience. 

 I think it is the lure of cheaper gas and 2kg bags of vegan protein powder that keeps me coming back.

But yesterday was a whole new level.

I was hit so hard by a distracted shopper I fell over into a Christmas display🎄  


Fortunately I had the wherewithal to recognize I was overtired, hungry and now overstimulated. I took a deep breath, stood up and continued on.  

No confrontation
No narrative
No stress

I use a process called HALT as much as possible before reacting or making any decisions.

It is 4 questions you can ask before making a decision:

am I ?

• hungry
• angry
• lonely
• tired.

If I am, I try not to react in the moment and delay any decision.

*note try, I am far from perfect at this.

But I do find this little acronym really helpful.

Once they learned this, their sales increased by 75%.

I worked with a brilliant systems manager who transitioned into sales.

He loved finding and fixing problems. It came easily to him and he was extremely good at it.

He knew exactly what feature would solve the problem.

But it wasn't translating into sales!

Until a customer said to him, I don't care how you do it, just make sure I am never in this situation again!

It is a problem that comes up often when you are new to sales.

❌You're solving the root problem.

✅But the customer wants relief from the symptoms.

The root problem will need to be solved but 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.

❌They don't care if you system can analyse data 10X faster than you competition.

✅They want to know they can generate reports in 5 minutes because they have bosses who demand reports without warning.

🎯 Always think of how your solution will make the prospects life better. 

Show them a future that is:

• easier
• happier
• less stressful
• more successful
• advances their career

Day 2 of #community130    Here's what I got up to yesterday and today so far.

 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽/𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴

 -Identified the membership model that I will be building

- mapping out content so it builds competency

- Identified the key sales topics that will be covered immediately for quick wins.

- Accepted an invitation to do a Storytelling for Sales workshop at my coworking facility

- Accepted podcast invitation

- Sent 5 connection requests

- Booked a connection call

𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹/𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵:

- sleep still not great (maybe 5 hours?)
- 35 min work out
- 20 min meditation
- 15 journaling.
- started a painting class this morning.

🖼️Painting class was fabulous! I am going with a friend and it's is refreshing to just let go and colour outside the lines.  (metaphorically, there are no lines)

It is fun to do something physically creative. 

I think we all do a lot of digitally creative work, (looking at you Canva and Midjourney) but there is something about mixing colours and putting brush to canvas that just hits differently.

"We thought we had the perfect solution, we didn't expect the manufacturer to shut down".


After months of testing and evaluating our customer, a major defence contractor thought they had found the perfect solution.

It met all of the specs.

✅ Performance
✅ Power
✅ Outputs
✅ Price


They submitted their solution and won a DOD bid worth millions.   The contract called for a scheduled delivery of 7 years and 15 years support.

3 years in and the supplier they had chosen closed their doors.  

No notice
No replacement
No last time buy

We got a call asking if we could help them.  

Here is why: "We've had great success with Tri-M power supplies. We have units that have been in the field for over 20 years. And even when you do bring out new versions, they  are backwards compatible.

So we thought we maybe you could help us."

It took some design work and recreating custom parts with a 3D printer, but are able to help them deliver of the balance of their commitment. And prevent them defaulting on the contract.

I love using intentionality and making decisions from my "future self".  It gets you out of the muck of stuck. 

If you aren't familiar with future self concepts, let me share a quick run down.

✨Identify who you want to be in 5 years, along with the behaviours and thoughts they will be having then.   

✨How does future you experience the world? 
Use those behaviours and thoughts to make decisions in the present.

✨Now wite down what future you will do when the "stuckness" surfaces, so you don't have to think about it when it happens.

Here are the ones I use:

Writer's block - go support other people's posts, try journaling, sketching, going for a run, do not judge myself. Tomorrow will look different.

Productivity guilt: I review the wins I make everyday. (each night I write down 3 wins from the day.  each month I review where I was to where I am .  

Tip: Measure progress backwards against what you have accomplished, not the gap from where you want to be.

Most of all be kind to yourself!
