The lifespan of a marketer is dictated by one word: Differentiation. 

Why?

Your software? Eerily similar to the next one. 

Your features? Ha. Your competitor’s got ‘em too. 

Your pricing? That’s cute. There’s 5 other cheaper options. There’s 5 other premium options.

Your customer support? Amazon commoditized customer support, you’re not special.

Your KPIs? They require results yesterday. They require your ideal customer to give a damn about what you have to say. They require mindshare.

But mindshare is scarce. Even more scarce than a Chipotle bowl with enough chicken in it.

The sauce to win mindshare has nothing to do with your Chipotle bowl, and everything to do with differentiation.

I have been a full time entrepreneur for 1 year and 1 day.

At 22 I launched No Boring Brands with no website, no logo.

I grew a client base entirely through cold DMs, in-person events, and referrals.

In the first full calendar year the business did six-figures in revenue as a side hustle.

Towards the end of September of 2024, I realized I was at an inflection point with No Boring Brands…

I had a kickass job, had recently been given a promotion, loved the people I worked with.

But at the same time I had this tiny business on the side that wasn’t getting much attention, yet still found ways to grow.

For months I had an internal battle on what to do.

Not to mention I had AJ Eckstein 🧩, Joshua Smith, Ryan Snyder, Johnny Brask, and Matthew Winklestine all pushing me towards entrepreneurship any chance they had.

So on October 13th, 2024, almost a year after opening my LLC, I left my job and went full time on No Boring Brands.

That was 1 year and 1 day ago.

The business has scaled tremendously. (I don’t share current revenue numbers on socials, “You gain nothing from being properly estimated.” - Robert Greene, Law 21, 48 Laws of Power)

And I’ve learned a few things. 

For young aspiring entrepreneurs:

1) The single most important skill to learn is how to make money, legally. 

2) Your time is not valuable. Say yes to every conversation. Say yes to every freelance opportunity. 

3) You don’t need a “genius” business idea. You need action. Don’t confuse procrastination with “strategy and planning”. 

4) Don’t buy courses. Read Naval Ravikant. Read Robert Greene. Read Chris Voss.

5) Don’t join a paid community. Instead become valuable to an already valuable individual. Send a cold DM, work for cheap. Do more than you’re asked to do. (I spent 2+ years hyper focused on how I could become as valuable as possible to Daniel Murray. It changed my life.)

For social media marketers:

1) If your content strategy changes after 1 poor performing post, you don’t have a content strategy. 

2) If you’re going to analyze your content strategy, don’t look at any timeline shorter than 30 days. Otherwise you leave too much up to luck.

3) Creative teams don’t fail because they run out of good ideas. They fail because they don’t have the systems to consistently execute, refine, and publish those ideas. 

4) Evergreen content > trend-based content.

5) Company pages > personal brands (for businesses doing $10M+ ARR). 

6) Consistently posting on social media is the single biggest audience growth lever. 

For parents of aspiring entrepreneurs:

1) Confidence in your children is the greatest gift you can give them, greater than any amount of $$ or connections.
