In November 2020, I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Autism is not an illness or disease, but a neurodevelopmental disability that affects an individual in regards to social communication and interaction. Essentially, my brain is “arranged” or “wired” differently to what may be “neurotypical” – a bit like having Mackintosh when everyone else uses Windows! I may have a different way of thinking to the average person. I may appear to be withdrawn or socially awkward. I may even find it difficult to make decisions or express my feelings, making it difficult for me to be understood. But it has not stopped me from building up a wide range of skills, experience and knowledge that could prove useful.
