I get asked about 17 times a week: "How long do I need to spend replying to comments?" Like, how entitled are you? You're not Beyonce - you can't just drop content and disappear 🫠 😂 If you want people to give a sh*t about your posts - you have to give a sh*t about theirs. Commenting, replying, showing up... it’s not extra. It’s the job. Attention is earned, not owed. When I first started building my personal brand on LinkedIn, I spent hours replying to every comment. It wasn’t easy. But it bloody works; - Built a 230k-strong community. - Build a profitable business I love. - Won a $75,000 client contract off a single comment. - Got paid to speak and run workshops... So, if you want to show people you give a sh*t and really build a community (not just followers) WITHOUT being a slave to your social media, do this ↓ 1. Prioritise your first hour. The 60 minutes after you post is fondly referred internally at Klowt as "Golden hour". Reply to every comment you get during this window - It tells the algorithm your content is worth pushing and tells your audience you care. 2. Engage like a human. Stop writing “thanks!” or “agree!” like a f*cking bot 😂. Ask follow-up questions, share your thoughts, make people want to come back (and give you more engagement...). 3. Make engagement efficient. You don’t need to live in your notifications 24/7. That's why I’m OBSESSED with Planable's new Engagement feature. It's not fully launched yet, but I got access to it last week and I was able to reply to every comment - across multiple posts and platforms - in one place and one go. LinkedIn feed isn't live yet but I'm using it for Instagram and already; Saves me HOURS. I never miss a comment. And lets me spend more time building relationships, and making money - not burning time scrolling. Attention is earned, not owed. And if you want a community, you have to actually build one. Post by post. Comment by comment. Reply by reply. So, if your serious about your personal brand, you have to be serious about community. Hire people you actually like. There’s been this wave of “don’t hire for culture fit” - and I used to be one of those people. If you want to grow a profitable and innovative business, you have to build a team of different backgrounds, different perspectives, different thought processes. Cognitive diversity = innovation and growth. But if you don't genuinely get on with someone, especially in a small business? It doesn’t work. I’ve hired people I didn’t vibe with. Not bad people. Just not my people. And it caused damage—for me, for them, for the team. When you're building something, you have to trust the team you're building it with. Your business is your baby. Are you really handing it to someone you don't even like? No. So don't. Vibe check people. Take them for lunch - make your team take them for lunch. See if they're going to add, or take away from the awesomeness you've already got. You’re not hiring a CV. You’re hiring a person. The right person transforms your business. The wrong person?
