Amy is a respected researcher, innovator and communicator. Her experience spans marketing agency, independent, corporate, and international roles in both dimensions. She holds domain expertise in the creative and digital economies; artistic rights and media; trade and development; public health and HIV/AIDS; and cities and entrepreneurship; and has degrees in development studies, media studies, TV journalism, anthropology, and psychology. She is also co-author of UNCTAD’s 2018 Creative Economy Report. Prior to UNCTAD, she worked at the UN Secretariat in New York. Over the last decade she has also served in key marketing, communications, research and strategy roles for the South African Cultural Observatory most recently leading the delivery of its Research Agenda. She conducted research on artificial intelligence’s impact on the creative industries; and sectoral research on film, TV and animation; women, youth and skills; and the work dimensions of the 4IR. In the first decade of her career, Amy was a journalist, editor, and consulted widely on development communications projects. Later she worked in public relations, marketing and ad agencies, leading teams and the delivery of continental and South African campaigns for top corporates, eg. BankServAfrica, FIFA, Ford, Experian, Woolworths. On the side, she runs her own online gallery/publishing project, Onomatopoeia Poetry; and an idea stage start-up, Briefmapp. Amy is a published poet. She considers herself a global citizen with local reach in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Geneva, New York, and Berlin. She is an advocate for youth and women. She’s also obsessed with film, football, yoga, news, travel, culture and cityscapes.
