I set up & built the website, getting it #1 in every town in Kent for “leaflet distribution”. I also wrote an ebook to promote it which sold over 100 copies on Amazon. 

In 2009 I sold the business to a competitor and continued to act as a consultant for him to integrate the 2 businesses.

Initially, this involved a lot of cold calling however I taught myself how to write copy and wrote lead generation ads (which generated responses of 4.3%) to build my lead funnel and cut down on the need for cold calling.

As time progressed, I also became involved in helping to retain the renewal account, successfully ensuring that we renewed around 92% of our client base year in year out.

I started on the phones, getting renewal dates, proposal forms etc., for Professional Indemnity insurance for the professions. Also appointment setting for senior management. 

After a while I was promoted to account executive, which meant I was making my own appointments, seeing prospective clients. I explained how we would secure significant premium savings for them, before gaining that objective premium figure from Insurers and then presenting back to the impressed client, winning the business 7 times out of 10.

I was an LMX claims technician/broker, which involved preparing non-marine claims from inception to settlement, it also meant that I visited Insurers to secure agreement on those claims - whether it was for an updated reserve figure or an actual settlement - from the adjusters. 

The broking element, persuading adjustors to agree those claims, was where I began to think I might prefer a sales role. Hence my transition into commercial insurance sales with Ward Evans.
