Crypto natives built DeFi.

Wall Street is starting to own it.

BlackRock, Citadel Securities, Apollo and other TradFi giants are buying DeFi governance tokens:

• Citadel backed LayerZero and acquired ZRO tokens
• Apollo agreed to buy 90M MORPHO tokens

This isn’t degen speculation.

When TradFi plugs into DeFi, it pushes for cleaner token economics and tighter governance.

Not out of ideology. Out of necessity.

Thy won’t build products on shaky rails.

DeFi isn’t replacing traditional finance.

It’s becoming its plumbing.

And the protocols that win will be the ones with real value capture, not just narratives.

This idea is pretty uncomfortable to admit.

Crypto was NOT built for humans.

It was built for machines.

And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

For 17 years we tried to force humans into crypto.

Gas fees.
Hex addresses.
12-word seed phrases.
Signing unreadable transactions.

And then we wondered why crypto didn’t go mainstream.

Because humans prefer:

• Customer support
• Reversible payments
• Simple user experience
• Someone to blame when things break

Sure, banks are hugely inefficient.

But they were designed around human needs first.

Crypto wasn’t.

Crypto is deterministic.

Rigid.
Rule based.
Unforgiving.

Now flip the lens.

Who thrives in deterministic systems?

Machines.

AI agents don’t care about simple user experience.

They don’t panic when they see a 0x address.

They don’t fall for phishing attacks.

They can:

→ Verify contracts in seconds
→ Simulate complex outcomes
→ Execute transactions automatically

Now, try plugging an AI agent into the traditional banking system.

It can’t open a bank account.

It can’t pass KYC as a human, business, or government.

It can’t legally hold funds.

The legacy system literally has no category for it.

But onchain?

A wallet is just code.

So an AI agent can hold funds, move value, and execute agreements without paperwork, approvals, or waiting on banking hours.

This is the part most people miss.

Crypto won't go mainstream as a frontend product.

But it will go mainstream as a backend infrastructure.

(Stablecoins and Real-World Assets are big facilitators in this transition.)

Humans won’t be comparing bridges or signing 7 popups.

They’ll tell their AI agent what they want:

“Pay this invoice.”
“Rebalance my treasury.”
“Find me yield with these constraints.”

The AI agent will route through stablecoins, DeFi, RWAs, whatever stack exists, and you’ll only see the outcome.

That’s when crypto finally feels normal.

Not because everyone became crypto native.

But because crypto became the default rail for machines, and humans benefited from it in the background.

The uncomfortable truth?

Crypto was never built for humans.

It was waiting for machines.

That’s more than 3x growth in a year.

What’s driving almost all of this growth?

Tokenized funds.

Mostly short duration U.S. Treasury and money market style products.

Here are the top categories:

1. 𝗧𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱.

Tether Gold jumped from ~$515M to ~$2.71B, up ~426% YoY.

Paxos Gold climbed from ~$527M to ~$2.34B, up ~344% YoY.

Gold alone added over $4B in new onchain value.

2. 𝗧𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗱.

→ Ondo USDY: +190%
→ BlackRock BUIDL: +44%
→ Janus Henderson treasury: +1,700%
→ Ondo short term gov bonds: +224%
→ Superstate short duration gov fund: +670%
→ WisdomTree digital money market: +6,000%+

This is real cash management infrastructure moving onchain.

3. 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝘆𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆.
 
Syrup USDC scaled to ~$1.72B, while Syrup USDT reached ~$605M.
 
Both effectively started from a negligible base, implying hypergrowth within a single year.
 
Together, they now represent over ~$2.3B in onchain RWA value.
 
Why these assets drove the growth?
 
Because they turn idle stablecoins into yield.
 
And integrate directly into DeFi as collateral.
 
While large issuers are deploying real capital, not pilots.
  
Ethereum still dominates the RWA landscape with close to 60% market share.
 
Zooming out, stablecoins on Ethereum alone exceed $160B in market cap.
 
RWAs at $15B are still only a fraction of that base layer of onchain dollars.
 
If one of the fastest growing asset classes in crypto is still this small relative to the stablecoins, the growth ceiling is nowhere near being hit.
 
So you are still not bullish on RWAs?

Crypto wallets don't get enough attention.

Yet they are the most important part of web3 now.

Why is this the case?

If you want to be in web3, you need a wallet.

Just like if you want to be in web2, you need an email and a browser.

Everyone has them these days.

The same will be true for web3.

Everyone will have a wallet soon.

In the future, your crypto wallet will:

• Have your on-chain identity
• Connect to your bank account
• Hold any crypto assets you might have
• Store your certificates, diplomas, and other credentials
• Keep your NFTs and other collectibles that act as digital tickets

Your wallet will also be the gateway to your decentralized social media and metaverse accounts.

So, instead of typing a username/password to log in, in web3 you will be asked to 'connect' your wallet.

But we still don't have a very user-friendly wallet.

Often you need several wallets as they don't support all chains.

And many people hate having to store 12-word seed phrases.

So we are still waiting for THE ONE that will revolutionize the space.

Just like Netscape Navigator did for the Internet and Gmail did for email.

One of crypto’s major alliances just collapsed.

The largest L2 chain just switched teams and went sovereign.

Base L2 is moving away from Optimism’s OP Stack.

After ~3 years of being the flagship OP Stack chain.

This is not a small refactor.

It’s Base going solo at the foundational software layer.

Here’s the part most people will miss.

Base wasn’t just “using OP Stack”.

Base was Optimism’s biggest distribution win.

And one of its biggest revenue engines.

Coinbase had been sending 15% of Base’s onchain revenue to the Optimism Collective.

So far that added up to ~8,387 ETH, roughly $16M.

In January, Base reportedly made up the vast majority of that revenue stream.

Now that stream is gone.

So why would Base do this?

3 key reasons:

• Speed.
• Control.
• Innovation cadence.

Base said the stack had become a web of dependencies across multiple teams and repos.

So they’re consolidating everything into a single Base operated codebase.

And they’re targeting 6 tightly scoped hard forks per year.

Up from roughly 3 previously.

Now zoom out.

Optimism’s whole Superchain thesis was simple.

→ Many OP Stack chains.
→ Various shared standards.
→ Future interoperability that makes multiple chains feel like one.

If the biggest OP Stack success story can walk away from the stack’s release train.

Every other Superchain member just learned a new lesson: 

You can also leave.

Which in turn puts into the question the whole Superchain interoperability vision.

So what does this all mean, in plain English?

Base is still an Ethereum L2.

Users and apps should feel no disruption.

But strategically, Base just turned OP Stack from “home” into “supplier”.

Hype. Jargon. Protocol talk.

Your team world-class.
Your traction impressive.
Your product can be brilliant.

But if your narrative doesn’t translate into their language, your deals die before the first call.

The teams that win outside crypto do something different:

→ They stop selling tech and start selling outcomes
→ They rebuild the founder’s LinkedIn for credibility
→ They reposition their story around business impact
→ They publish content that speaks to decision-makers, not degens

Because enterprises don’t buy innovation.

They buy clarity.

Fix the story and the sales motion finally starts moving.

→ Want to settle a withdrawal? Go through a bank.
 
Kraken just eliminated the middleman.
 
For the first time ever, a crypto company can now settle payments directly on Fedwire.
 
The same rails that JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and Bank of America use to move trillions of dollars every day.
 
Direct connection to the core payment infrastructure of the United States.
 
Kraken applied for this in 2020.
 
It took 5 years of regulatory scrutiny, examinations, and coordination with federal and state supervisors.
 
Senator Cynthia Lummis called it a "watershed milestone in the history of digital assets."
 
Ripple and Anchorage Digital already have pending applications.
 
More approvals are coming.
 
Meanwhile, the Bank Policy Institute (representing the biggest U.S. banks) is already fighting to block crypto firms from getting the same access.
 
But here is the real shift:
 
Crypto spent the last decade asking banks for permission to exist.
 
Now crypto is becoming THE bank.

Don't dilute your attention too much. 

Most web3 Founders expand too early.
 
That’s why they stay invisible.

Most crypto users are forced to make the same compromise.

Either use software wallets like MetaMask that feel fast and familiar, but leave them exposed.

Or rely on hardware wallets that are secure, but clunky and awkward to use.

Neither option really fits how people actually operate anymore.

And for a long time, that was also my setup.

A mix of different wallets:

• Some software wallets for speed.
• Some hardware wallets for “safety”.

Every time I wanted to move crypto, connect to an app, or do something slightly more involved, it became a hassle.

Switching wallets.
Switching hardware devices.
Breaking my flow into unnecessary steps.

A simple portfolio rebalancing could easily take 1 hour. 

Not ideal.

Eventually it clicked that this could be much simpler.

Most web3 Founders built B2C apps for retail.
 
But now retail is BROKE.
 
And crypto is going B2B and institutional.
 
That is the uncomfortable reality of 2026.
 
The shift has already happened, but most Founders just don't want to admit it.

You see, for years, retail was the buyer.

The fastest teams won by shipping narratives, incentives, and hype.

Now the buyer is changing.

In this crypto winter, retail wallets are empty.

So the old B2C playbook in 99% of cases starts to feel like it is breaking.

(Don't count prediction markets. They are more web2 than web3 these days.)

What used to look like growth now looks like churn with better marketing.

• Airdrops meta is slowly dying out
• KOL spend on X rarely builds real pipeline.
• Narrative farming wins impressions, not procurement meetings.

Meanwhile, B2B teams are killing it.

Because they sell to buyers with real budgets and mandates.

TradFi institutions, FinTechs, enterprises and other B2B businesses are all exploring blockchain and tokenization. 

But institutional buyers do not buy vibes.

They buy risk management, clarity, and proof they can defend internally.

That is the shift most founders are missing.

The new Founder job is not to post louder.

It is to build like a B2B company that happens to be onchain.

→ Pick one real buyer with a budget and a painful problem
→ Rewrite your story in outcomes: cost, revenue, risk, and time
→ Build a proof pack that survives scrutiny: pilots, case studies, references
→ Lead with Founder-led inbound marketing and customized outbound approach

If your growth depends on retail returning, you won't go too far.

If your growth depends on budget owners adopting blockchain rails they already need, you can compound now.

Question is: Are you building for B2C spectators, or for B2B buyers with budgets?

US just launched a massive strike on Iran.
 
Crypto prices are crashing lower by the minute.

This is a developing story and things are likely to get a lot worse.

We don’t have full clarity yet. 

But we know one thing:

Every serious US–Iran escalation has triggered market-wide turmoil.

• Oil surges.
• Equities bleed.
• Crypto gets hit harder.

But this time does not look like a symbolic strike.

This looks like escalation.

Possibly regime change attempt.

If that’s the direction, this doesn’t end with one headline.

Global markets do not price in war lightly.

They especially don’t price in regime change.

Crypto is still a high-beta risk asset.

In moments like this, it does not behave like digital gold.

It trades like leveraged tech on steroids.

I’m hoping for the best.

But preparing for the worst.

If this escalates, which is quite likely, volatility won’t be brief.

It will be brutal.

Because we’re still using the old 2021 playbook.

And that playbook was built for hype.

Not for institutional or enterprise buyers.

Here’s the old way most web3 B2B teams still operate:

→ Blast automated DMs on X and call it “B2B sales”
→ Inflate follower counts with bots and vanity metrics
→ Spam prospects on Telegram from random accounts
→ Hire Twitter KOLs to pump narratives and dump attention
→ Run airdrops and InfoFi campaigns that attract the wrong crowd

This worked in 2021.

When everyone was early.
When credibility didn’t matter.
When buyers were crypto native.

Today?

Institutional and enterprise buyers see right through this.

• Telegram spam kills credibility.
• X (Twitter) outreach has low trust.
• Automation without context signals amateurism.

None of these converts into large ticket web3 B2B deals.

We need to change how we think about it.

Positioning beats noise.
Credibility beats automation.
High trust beats high volume.

Most importantly, Founders and web3 sales leaders need to be where the real buyers are.

And that's not X or Telegram.

That platform is LinkedIn.

This is where the institutional and enterprise decision makers live.

The new playbook for web3 B2B BD should be:

→ Storytelling that builds familiarity with right stakeholders
→ Clear positioning around real business value, not token hype
→ Consistent content that explains what you do in buyer language

Institutional and enterprise leads come to you.

Conversations start warm.

Trust is already established.

This roadmap is a draft “strawmap”, but the direction is clear.

7 hard forks by 2029.

Roughly one every 6 months.

Here are the 4 key upgrades that matter the most.

1. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁

Today, Ethereum can include your transaction fast.

But it takes ~16 minutes to be truly irreversible.

That’s finality.

The goal is to cut that down to seconds.

Target: ~8 seconds.

By moving to a simpler consensus flow called Minimmit.

And gradually shrinking slot times too.

12s → 8s → 6s → 4s → maybe even 2s.

If they pull this off, exchanges, bridges, RWAs, and serious DeFi stop living in confirmation limbo.

Dropping the settlement risk dramatically.

2. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗽𝘂𝘁

Ethereum is basically saying:

We’re done being constrained by today’s throughput ceiling.

They’re aiming for “gigagas” on L1.

Think ~10,000 TPS (transactions per second) on the base layer.

And “teragas” for L2s.

Think ~10,000,000 TPS across rollups.

This unlocks a massive TPS boost.

Helping Ethereum look less like a chain, and more like global settlement infrastructure.

L1 becomes the ultra-secure core.

L2s become the execution bandwidth.

3. 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆

Most chains treat quantum as a future problem.

Ethereum is putting it on the roadmap with an actual target fork.

The idea is to move toward hash-based cryptography.

So old, un-updated wallets don’t become soft targets in a quantum world.

If Ethereum wants to secure trillions, it can’t leave existential risks to later.

It has to engineer around them early.

4. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘆

Everything on Ethereum today is transparent by default.

But the roadmap pushes toward shielded transfers on L1.

Privacy as a first-class feature, not a niche add-on.

This will be a huge enabled for institutional adoption, who often need privacy for their clients.

And such adoption needs privacy that feels native, not bolted on.

Put it together and you get Ethereum’s 2029 north stars:

→ Seconds-level finality on Ethereum L1 
→ 10k TPS on L1 and 10M TPS on L2s
→ Post-quantum readiness
→ Native privacy

If Ethereum can actually ship this roadmap, ETH won’t reprice by a mere 50-100%.

It will pull in more capital, more issuers, more builders, and more flow.

And its market cap will go bazooka.

P.S. 
In 2020 Ethereum went all-in on a rollup-centric roadmap, but the outcomes didn’t match the hype.

Now it’s publishing a much more aggressive 2029 rebuild plan.
