As a 20-year Air Force veteran, my primary goals while I served were to help other airmen, and try to make processes less stupid. The hardest part about the latter was the frozen middle, especially for the former. My command recognized that change could only be affected at the speed of relevance if the rules could change as quickly as the processes or solutions. I was lucky enough to be put in a position where I could have a positive impact on change in innovation and processes, and later as a First Sergeant, help airmen (while trying not to become the frozen middle myself). My first job leaving the Air Force was in sales. I learned about business development, prospecting for ideal candidates or businesses, what roles and titles do what in the civilian world. After that I was put on the Defense Ventures team where I helped run the program, as well as start a new program; Decentralized Fellowship. I built the Decentralized Fellowship from the ground up. I developed relationships with numerous bases and companies. This program gave active duty members access to a short externship with a company local to them to see what problem solving and innovation looked like outside of the military. I'm currently looking for a project management job somewhere in the defense or defense related fields. I would like to bring some of the military experience and knowledge I have to a company looking to help the US military keep its technological edge againt its adversaries.
