When they're asked about their greatest accomplishments They talk about: ➞ Their family ➞ Personal growth ➞ Or overcoming life struggles And while those are amazing achievements They don’t belong in a job interview. First thing: ↳ interviewers can’t legally ask about your personal life And you: ↳ bringing it up shifts the focus away from your professional skills. When the interviewer asks: "What is your greatest accomplishment?" Say this: “At [Company], I was faced with [problem or challenge]. I took the lead on [action you took], and because of that, we [impact/result]. They either: ❌ Give a vague response. ❌ Say something too personal that doesn’t align with the role. ❌ Admit they have no idea (big red flag for hiring managers!). It’s 3:16 am in the morning as I’m writing this. And I’m writing from the most vulnerable place one can. This is not your typical “interview tips post.” So if that’s what you were expecting to see today, sorry. Not today. I’ve been showing up here daily at 7:30 am CST for the past 8 months, and I’ve built a beautiful community of 35K people looking to land amazing jobs. And this is why today I need to speak the truth. You may see me here as someone who is confident, thriving, and has it all figured out. ➞ But the truth is, there are days I wanna throw in the towel. ↳ There are days I don’t feel good enough. ↳ There are days I feel lonely and lost. But we’re taught to show up online with our best face and just suck it up. Nobody talks about the bad and the ugly. Man, running a business is not easy. ➞ I also face imposter syndrome: ↳ Is my content even valuable? ↳ Am I being the best coach to my clients? ↳ Does my accent make me sound dumb? ↳ Was that video too cringe? ↳ Am I spending too much time at work and neglecting my loved ones? ↳ Is all this burnout even worth it? We are our worst enemies. If you could only hear all the negative self-talk that goes on in my mind. I would never talk to anyone the way I talk to myself. All the guilt, all the unmet expectations... I set the bar too high and then push myself to the limit until I break. There are nights I cry myself to sleep. And there are nights I can’t sleep cuz anxiety creeps in. (Like today) Don’t believe everything you see on the internet. ➞ No one has it all figured out. Whoever tells you the opposite is lying. So let’s be kind to ourselves. To all the ones out there who are feeling lost and scared, I see you. Tapping into my “why” always helps me come back to my center. Your answer is always there. Here’s how to spot job post red flags 🚩 🚩 👉 No salary or benefits listed: ➞ If a company is serious about hiring, they should be upfront about what they offer. ➞ Hiding pay is a strategy to underpay candidates. 👉 Vague or missing company details: ➞ No company name? 🚩 When ‘Normal’ at work is actually NOT Normal It’s easy to get so caught up in work that we don’t even question the things we accept as “normal.” But we need to remind ourselves: just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s okay! We convince ourselves that: ➞ Exhaustion is a sign of productivity. ➞ Being constantly available means we’re doing a good job. ➞ Feeling guilty for setting boundaries is just part of the job. But in reality, a healthy work environment doesn’t require you to sacrifice your well-being just to keep up.
