I’m a software and data engineer with a PhD in Physics from Imperial College. I’ve designed and helped implement a range of software projects, 2 directly driving revenue. I enjoy working in friendly teams that write high quality code (techniques like TDD, CI/CD and YAGNI where appropriate), building solutions for user problems. Most recently I improved a data platform for investment data at T Rowe Price, allowing analysts to get rapid data updates. I built batch processing pipelines for Wayhome, automatically selecting properties for shared ownership. I designed and helped implement pipelines for Speechmatics, automatically training speech-to-text transcription models. For LineupLab, I built an algorithm that helps sports gamblers. I’ve also designed, built and deployed scalable services using Flask and Docker on Google Cloud Platform, exposing APIs for Machine Learning models, databases, algorithms and other business logic. I’ve been central to introducing code review, automated testing and continuous integration. I’ve mainly worked in Python so far, I’ve used a range of libraries including Apache Airflow, Flask, SQLAlchemy, Celery, pytest, invoke, numpy, scipy, matplotlib and Luigi. I’m proficient in a number of other technologies, including Docker, Google Cloud Platform, PostgreSQL, Redis and RabbitMQ.
