I was in a very, very dark place several years ago.

I wore a mask to hide my pain as a continual loop of suicidal thoughts threatened my life. 

It wasn't anyone's fault. There wasn't anything going on in my life to cause it.

It was simply a medical issue...a physiological breakdown of my brain chemistry.

Thankfully, I was able to pull out of it and have been steady for years now. This video shares the steps I used to get out of that dark place and leave it in my past.

I'm not saying my way of overcoming these thoughts is the only way, but it is the path that has kept me both safe and happy.

Maybe you remember seeing this video last year? If so, you're right! And I'll share it every year at this time because spring and early summer are the most difficult times for those battling mental health issues. (Not winter, by the way...that's a myth.)

Someone you know might be struggling, and you might not even realize it. So, if you can, please share this video with anyone you feel comfortable sharing it with.

I hope sharing my story can save at least one life. If you and I save just one life together, it's definitely worth being vulnerable.

Have you forgotten how to enjoy life?

Last week on vacation, I marveled at my 11-year-old daughter Darci's love for dancing and music. She was having so much fun losing herself in the moment!

It made me realize I could do a better job enjoying life myself. 

As adults, we often forget how to have fun, as weird as that may sound.

Here's a simple trick to help you learn to enjoy fun experiences in the moment. 

I call it "Head, Heart, Mouth," and it's three simple steps:

🤔  Head—Intellectually acknowledge that the moment is fun. No emotions, just a mental awareness.

 ❤️ Heart—Ask yourself, "How is this making me feel right now?" This open-ended question will force a response from your brain that triggers emotion.

 👄 Mouth—Finally, express yourself by either speaking your feelings aloud to someone or writing them down if that's not an option.

Think of it like CPR for enjoyment!

This simple statement is incredibly powerful in a world where giving people partial attention is the norm.

Put down the phone. Close the laptop. Turn off the TV. 

STOP switchtasking and give people your full attention.

Not only do they deserve it. You'll be more productive and build stronger relationships as a result.

There's nothing to lose and everything to gain by making this one small change.

Optimizing your productivity comes down to three categories:

Space, mind, and time.

Here's how that works:

1. Space - Keep your workspace organized and free of clutter.

2. Mind - Minimize distractions by using approved gathering points and a scheduled processing time.

3. Time - Fill the majority of your day with your Most Valuable Activities (MVAs).

By doing the above, you'll get more done in less time. The very definition of productivity!

As a parent, I strive to give my children the best chance for success.

What's one of the most important traits of a great leader?

While there are many correct answers, one stands out above the rest for me:

Effective communication with their team and consistent training opportunities.

I've found that the best way to do both is to create a system for regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings.

It allows you to give each team member your full focus and significantly reduces the infamous "quick question" interruptions throughout your day.
