I won a contract worth over 300,000.00 with the City of Ottawa, the largest contract negotiated by an inside sales person.  I was the top inside sales person for 2011 and while I was there in 2012 I outsold several outside sales people including everyone in Vancouver.

And let’s stop hiding behind euphemisms:

Here’s how many conversations play out:

CS: “We can't do that”
Customer: “Sales said you could”
CS: “Yeah, sorry.”
Churn.
Sales: “Wait, we do.”
Product: “It shipped last quarter.”

Why?

Because Customer Success isn’t treated like a sales function even though it is

You’re managing revenue.
You’re defending value.
You’re handling objections.

So CS shouldn’t just be trained on product.
They need to be trained on Sales.
