JumpCloud

As JumpCloud's first CISO, I was responsible for hiring, building and establishing JumpCloud's Operational Security posture, Product security, corporate training, security architecture review, compliance, governance and risk management programs. Additionally, I also served as JumpCloud's Data Privacy Officer in support of US and EU customer privacy and transparency for data processing and storage. I protected our customer-facing services, our employees and customer data, privacy and online safety. I hired a great team, empowering secure product development while growing the business, shipping quality software with security in mind from supply chain to deployment. I instituted metrics to drive security program measurement and investment as well as communicated risk to the exec team and the board. I collaborated with inside council, and the executive team regularly establishing a risk management process, and method for equating security risk to the business. This includes, IT, governance, risk and compliance initiatives, product security throughout the SDLC, and operational security of our SaaS infrastructure, partners and customers.

The Devo Data Operations Platform collects, enhances and analyzes machine, business and operational data from across the enterprise. Devo provides real-time analytics and insight for IT operations, security operations, business insight, log management & visibility for the world’s leading organizations.
I was responsible for security products and engineering, and establishing a corporate security program as the first CISO. We shipped two products, Security Insights as a lite SIEM, and Security Operations as a practitioners Investigative platform for digital forensics capabilities and incident response efficiency. 
My teams built the Security Operations Platform from concept through first three releases, knowns as SecOps.  Security Operations was responsible for 24 million in revenue in the first year of ship, and accounted for more than 80% of security use cases for Devo. SecOps also became the cyber weapons platform for some of the armed services in DoD, and won accolades for innovation and product innovation. The product was designed to enable practitioners to correctly focus, quickly investigate, prioritize, hunt, pivot and reliably disposition - investigations that matter. SecOps provided rich context and enrichment, and workflow designed for practitioners, and insight analytics and modeling based on an entity-first behavioral approach.
As the first CISO, I established the security program including product security, platform pipeline security and release, secure SDLC, SaaS security services,  operational security technology, talent and execution.  This also included education and training, and using our products internally to manage our operational risk.  We attained SOC2 type 2, and FedRAMP ATO for our on premise product. I formalized our PSIRT and CSIRT teams, responsible disclosure program, Incident Response program and the successfully achieved and maintained compliance for  SOC2 and FedRAMP across infrastructure and applications for use in the DoD.

PacketSled

PacketSled was a platform enabling network visibility, Incident Response, and Digital Forensics platform sensing and analyzing data across all network segments through automation, analytics and learning. We focused on democratizing DFIR for all organizations regardless of their level of capability. PacketSled provided instant network visibility, exploration and automation for network behavior, enriches flows with endpoint data, threat intelligence and analytics, visualize insight from your data and synthesize context for actionable real-time detection, and response.
As the CTO, I developed and led company product vision and strategy, engineering development, product security, product management, product operations and release management, CI/CD and DevOps teams, and customer support. I hired sensor and engineering teams, quality teams, re-built our brand, re-focused our GTM and target customers, and selling methodology as well, aligning with our focus on ensuring PacketSled makes a difference for our customers. We went from shipping code sometime, to regular monthly release schedules, and CI/CD at cloud speed. As a provider, I drove compliance across the SOC frameworks, as well as internal audit and compliance to DFARS, NIST800-53, PCI-DSS, HIPAA HITECH and GDPR data protection.
I leveraged other SME skills in this process such as Incident Response, digital forensics, secure software development lifecycle, financial modeling and business strategy, release management, agile dev tools, DevOps tooling/monitoring/automation, security research on attack trends & detection across the attack behaviors and stages in healthcare and IT/IIoT, banking, education and government sectors. Our platform was used by some of the most advanced IR firms in the industry to identify breaches quickly and respond effectively using PacketSled.

Chief Technology Officer

Led PacketSled as CEO after CEO and founder departed.  I  managed our board, investors, customers, partners and team, raised money, elevated messaging, increased market awareness, pivoted our market and continued building towards innovation and thought leadership in Network Visibility.  Through a turbulent storm, we were able to grow the business 85%, add additional funding and find product-market fit with a new segment focus and codified messaging based on a very old saying, "The proof is in the pudding".

Context Relevant

Context Relevant used a platform approach to automate machine learning models focused on Financial Services, Fraud and Cyber markets, we built an automated data science platform to increase velocity of iteration, reduce data scientist expertise requirements and introduce scalable, automated compute to impact business outcomes.  We built a platform capable of 6,000 transactions/second to find mass compromise, market making, fraud and account take over for the largest banks in the US.  I focused on making customers  successful from start to finish, my teams supported pre-sales, service delivery and post-sales support building models, executing and training models with feedback and delivering results to customers.  In addition, I led the design and implementation as SME for ensemble models exposing APT stage movement at the largest banks in the US defining a way to measure and predict post-exploitation behavior by advanced adversaries.
Responsibilities include: Building, hiring and retaining the technical services team including pre-sales, data engineering, data science, engagement management,  services, sustaining engineering and support.  Executive thought leadership and vision on product and GTM strategy; targeting GTM challenges, and simplifying execution and delivery while delighting customers.  Additional responsibilities include product security expert for Advanced Threat Detection product, ORT testing, Sales enablement, and Business Development of Security market customers.

On the Security leadership side, I have been a  global data privacy officer, CISO, risk owner as well as Operational Security leader, change management & business continuity executive and governance & compliance leader.  My experience ranges across the maturity model of creator/builder/innovator at dynamic start-ups to risk management at established enterprise companies.
I have managed business risk challenges as a practitioner, consultant, vendor, executive.  I have built security programs ranging from fresh beginnings of software development to varying degrees of regulated environments with complexity and maturity.  I have designed and built infrastructure, systems and services in a SaaS model and on-premise - as well as commercial through DoD/FedRAMPed products and services.  
I have built security products from idea to mature release, services offerings from SKU packaging to global revenue delivery, and partnered with cross-functional teams to understand and manage risk decisions in the board room, GTM, productization and operational execution to enable and grow business while reducing risk.
