Enercity / Lynqtech decided in 2018 to build a bespoke digital energy billing solution to replace their legacy SAP IS-U system. 
I was given the responsibility of liasing with external vendors, defining and specifying the key functional requirements that the platform needed to replace the legacy system, drive and quality assure key  migration requirements and lead a migration taskforce in the closing phase of the project.

The country of Luxembourg decided to deregulate the energy sector  and also introduce smart metering in 2015. I was responsible for defining the regulatory requirements, writing the functional requirements for the existing SAP IS-U system, writing technical designs, leading a functional and technical team of 25 people and responsible for the go-live and stabilization phase of the project.

For numerous clients of SAP Germany (KEWAG, SUWAG and the municipal supplier of Saarbrucken) I was given the task of enabling the deregulation of their IS-U systems and responsible for optimizing the device management, energy data management, metering and billing processes of the aforementioned clients.

James Riordan has over 20 years of experience in the utility sector. He has worked throughout Europe for some of the sector’s largest companies such as SAP Utilities division, Gaz De France, RWE,  Vattenfall and Luxembourg’s largest grid operator and supplier.

In 2016, together with Florian Gerke, he founded Paddington Utilities Consulting with a vision to democratize software for utilities. James is the lead functional architect.

Currently, Paddington is developing a disruptive web-based platform for the co-creation of enterprise software for utilities. This platform is modular, affordable and commercial open source. 

James has an extensive SAP IS-U background and he has been able to use this experience to identify the necessary functional, technical and strategic steps required to ensure a successful transition from legacy systems to bespoke digital solutions in his role as an independent industry advisor.
