Mostly full time database design, process design, and development work in T-SQL.  In the first two months there, assisted with the design of the database for their iDecision product and designed/wrote most of the stored procedures dealing with their "First Pass Review" (FPR) Assignment systems.  I also wrote a single proc "killer app" to allow the users to do FPR assignments without the full install of the iDecision product. HookLogic, Inc.

Worked on optimizing/rewriting current stored procedures, some heavy index tuning, and designing/writing new ones as well as assisting the Systems DBA with optimization and tuning as needed.  Working with others on the basic algorithms, created a new system (used on Expedia.com) to anticipate the future needs of customers based on current customer requests out for a period of about 6 weeks including multiple levels of costing and several moving windows of start date and duration of stay across all markets and hotels.  Also taught a couple of “Lunch’n’Learns” to promulgate some new techniques.

I also wrote some code that caught &quot;bots&quot; in action and made it so we wouldn't count those &quot;bot&quot; actions as customer interaction.  It worked so well that the code found a &quot;bot&quot; no one even suspected was occuring on a daily basis.

As a side bar, HookLogic was an incredible place to work at.  It’s currently a “small” business with a big footprint and the people there were incredible to work with and incredibly knowledgeable about “the market”, their systems, and their people.  I’m sorry I had to leave.

MediaCom Interaction (formerly Beyond Interaction)

Worked as an ETL design architect, Sr. Application DBA, Sr. ETL Developer while mentoring others and doing partial maintenance as a part time Systems DBA.

Designed and wrote a new ETL system (called &quot;STEPS&quot; which stood for &quot;Simplified Table Extraction and Parsing System&quot;) that would import, glean, clean, and distribute 8 extremely oddly formatted files with varying unknown widths in minutes to replace an existing system that would take 40 minutes to just get one file ready for imports.

Also made it possible to move multiple large capacity servers and their data from Michigan to New York in 48 hours where previous attempts over 2 years had failed to do so.

As a side bar, Mediacom/Ann Arbor (and some of their NY constituents) has some of the best managers a person could ask for and my peers in Ann Arbor were some of the best I'd ever had the pleasure of working with.  Again, this is one of those companies that everyone would like to work for.  It's a shame there was a hiring freeze on at the time I worked there because I definitely wouldn't have left had I become a full time employee.

Sr. Application DBA / SQL Server MVP

Wrote/implemented/enforced the SQL Server standards for ACN.  Conducted peer/code reviews.
Resolved a 640 deadlock/day problem w/several wks of no deadlocks after implementation.
Designed/wrote/implemented performance improvements like reducing month-end dupe checks from 24 hrs to 15 minutes (not a misprint) while doing 50% more checking.
1 of a 3 person team that designed/implemented/maintained the new OSS, an all encompassing set of databases/processes to run the enterprise.
Designed/wrote/implemented/documented many new DB systems & SQL procs for Billing, Finance, database mgmt,  & the business of customer mgmtwhich also included two 1.2 million customer IVR's.
Mentored Developers in all aspects of SQL Server especially in the area of performance .
Worked closely with mgmt in systems design especially where very large quanties of data were involved.
Worked with a Tera-byte SQL Server & many smaller servers.

Have converted many 24 hour jobs to run in less than 15 minutes and 8 hour jobs to run in seconds.  Replaced CLR audit triggers that took 4 minutes to audit 5 column updates on only 10,000 rows to sub-second times using special techniques to build T-SQL-only triggers.
