Some experts say as a business, you need to post 10 times a day on all different platforms. But I disagree.

The idea is: more volume will get you noticed, and you'll grow faster than those who don't post at all.

Fair enough.

But that probably means you have to hire a social media marketing team to do it for you. And the problem with that is:

🍩 They're not you
🍩 They don't have your experience
🍩 They may not have your voice
🍩 They might be repurposing content based on the algorithm (vs what's relevant)

Instead, why not post as the CEO or founder and encourage your employees to build their personal brands alongside you?

That way, they could post content here, promote your company, connect with their followers and grow their following at the same time. 

Which means you'll have more people posting with more reach in less time and money. 

Not a singular, narrow approach, but intentionally building your brand with steady momentum.

It's funny. I'm more open here than I am with my own family. Most people have the opposite problem. 

I've learned to censor myself over the years with those closest to me. 

I used to tell them everything, all the fun things I was doing, how I was changing clients' perspectives with their marketing and helping them see themselves in a different way. 

But the confusion on their faces told me everything I needed to know. "You do what? I don't get it. What's LinkedIn again?"

So now I just basically say nothing. Or "things are GREAT!" with extreme enthusiasm whenever they happen to ask. 

Here it's different. I'm an open book. I share my thoughts and I don't hold back. 

I'm not sure where that comes from. 

Maybe it's because I know I'm in a space where people just get me. I tend to attract the people who do what I do.

And it's funny, because most people have the opposite problem: they censor themselves online because they think need to share only what "should" be shared, or say the things that are acceptable and attract everyone. 

But when you censor like that, no one knows why they should work with you. 

They don't feel like they know you or what makes you stand out from the 1000000000 people who do the exact same thing. 

If you're online just to hang out, make friends, whatevs, cool. Do that. 

But if you're here to make an impact and change the lives of your clients, then don't hold back. 

Your people need to know why you're the person who can help them and why they should trust you. 

And that starts with what you say and the stories you share.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve changed my strategy on LinkedIn, taking more risks on and off the platform and being more intentional.

And it’s working.

I’ve gotten more DMs. Podcast invites. A couple of unexpected collabs. And more of the right kind of followers. 

I’ve been listening to a goal-setting podcast on my walks with Remy lately, and it’s completely shifted how I'm showing up both on and off LinkedIn.

There are gems like:
🍩 You are your own guarantee.
🍩 I’d rather be judged and hit my goal than be judged and not hit my goal.

It sounds weird, but I used to hit my goals and then sabotage myself. Then all the work and momentum I'd built for myself, destroyed in seconds.

Therapy helped me see I was sabotaging myself because, deep down, I didn’t believe I deserved what I worked so hard for.

Which is super sad when you think about it. Don’t we all deserve the things we work so hard for?

The good news is, I’m finally learning how to deal with it.
🍩 When good things come in and I start freaking out, I tell myself: I deserve this.
 🍩 When I wonder if it will all work out, I tell myself: Everything is always working.
 🍩 And when self-doubt creeps in, I remind myself: I’m exactly the person to do this.

Because of that work, I’m now following through on opportunities I once would’ve talked myself out of and it’s paying off.

Sabotaging myself will probably never go away 100%, but at least I know now: I am my own guarantee. 

And so are you.

Have you ever wanted to throw in towel and burn everything down? I have. 

Someone said to me the other day they've seen my pivot to Find Your Weird ™ and it's been amazing to see. 

But the truth is, I was *this close* to throwing in the towel before things really started to take off. 

Starting a service business is not easy, or overnight. And honestly, I would say it's harder than my donut business.

It takes a minute to figure this thing out. 

I always shunned the idea of a business plan, but I finally broke down and created one the other day and it's literally changed everything for me. 

Actually writing everything down has said to the Universe, I'm ready, and now it's like, here you go!

Just this week, I've had:
Massive clarity.
People reaching out.
5 Discovery Calls booked. 
2 unexpected collaborations.

It's all coming together. 

If I had to sum up an online business, it's this:

🍩 It takes longer than you think
🍩 Get out and talk to people 
🍩 Don't believe anyone who says it's easy
🍩 Keep going especially when it's hard
🍩 You get to make your own rules
🍩 Everything is data
🍩 It's more about relationships than "getting clients"
🍩 Believe in yourself

The other day, when I was a guest on a podcast, I said I intentionally curated myself here. 

I chose to be remembered for two things: my donut business and Find Your Weird. 

And it works. 

Now I get DMs from people I've never met, who send me memes about donuts or standing in front of a donut wall, or even memes about being weird. 

All with something along the lines of, "I saw this and thought of you."

Your content isn't only working to sell for you. 

It's also how people remember you.

We’re so busy learning how to write “hooks” that we forget why we started telling stories in the first place.

Handing out storytelling templates only teaches how to follow a formula instead of helping you draw from your own experience and meaning.
