I am an experienced research communicator and scientist driven by my curiosity & fascination in biochemistry, molecular & cellular biology, & the life sciences; who also has a love for the outdoors, gardening, photography, crafts, & blogging. C.S. Lewis said it best with: “You’re never too old to set another goal or dream another dream” With being an multipotentialite, I am aiming to transition to a remote (or freelance) communications (writing or marketing) role within the scientific, health, or agricultural industry sectors. Molecular & Cell Biologist | Content Development | creative & scientific writing My technical skills include molecular cloning, recombinant protein expression & purification, basic cell culturing, western & northern blotting, PCR, DNA & RNA isolation, the construction of small RNA libraries, & DNA sequencing. While writing & data analysis can be a ‘solitary’ endeavors, it takes a team to ensure that the story is told in such a way that it is creative, informative, & scientifically sound. I enjoy working as part of a team to move projects forward, from brainstorming ideas, doing the research, writing the outlines, proofreading, & editing the documents, to helping to put together infographics, posters & slide decks. I strive to indulge my curiosity & love of learning on a consistent basis, though on-line learning, reading, and stretching my creative & scientific writing abilities. Core Strengths/Competencies: •Molecular Biology •Teamwork, troubleshooting, & problem solving •Time management & organizational skills •Curiosity & creativity •Proofreading & editing of scientific documents •Life Sciences •Cell Biology Career Accomplishments: •Updated the training manual for the Ultimate Dionex-3000 HPLC, & created a manual on updating the DNA-Recombinant Protein Core Facility webpages •Mentored 32 undergraduates resulting in 24 posters presented at seven meetings, & seven in-house student publications over a three-year period •Protocol development for the enrichment of follicle cells isolated from Drosophila ovaries, resulting in a book chapter in Methods in Molecular Biology & papers in PLOS Genetics & Nature Genetics •Identified conserved & novel miRNAs in switchgrass (a model biofuel plant species), resulting in two papers & four poster-presentations at local, state, & regional meetings.
