Reviewed new and modified IV&V analysis methods for inclusion into IV&V Catalog of Methods to improve IV&V technical approaches.

IV&V Technical Quality & Excellence (TQ&E) Representative

Analyzed agency- and program-level (Level 1 and 2) requirements for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.

Commercial Crew Program (CCP) IV&V Analyst

Past companies absorbed through mergers and acquisitions: Intermetrics, AverStar, Titan Corporation.  Currently under contract to and located at the NASA IV&V Facility in Fairmont, WV.

Managed the IV&V project for NASA’s Space Shuttle Orbiter Flight Software (FSW), including Primary Avionics Software System (PASS), Backup Flight System (BFS), Multi-function Electronic Display Subsystem (MEDS), Miniaturized Airborne Global Positioning System (GPS) Receiver Shuttle–3-String (MAGRS-3S), and Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) Controller (SSMEC).  Project also included IV&V of: Space Integrated GPS/Inertial Navigation System (INS) (SIGI); Cockpit Avionics Upgrade (CAU); SSME Advanced Health Management System (AHMS); Orbiter Interface Unit (OIU); system integration of MAGRS-3S and SIGI into the orbiter; Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) Command Receiver-Decoder (CRD); and Day of Launch I-Load Uplink (DOLILU) ground-based software capability.  Project focused on safety-critical aspects of the IV&Ved systems, determined via NASA’s Portfolio Based Risk Assessment (PBRA) process.

Supervised geographically-distributed team ranging from 13 to 31 full-time equivalent  (FTE) personnel including part-time personnel, subcontractors, and telecommuters.  Consistently met annual project budget targets of $2-to-5 million per year while delivering 100% of over 300 formal products on schedule.  Interacted directly with NASA IV&V customer on daily basis and Space Shuttle Program office customer on weekly basis. Both NASA IV&V and SSP very satisfied with project support and interactions as indicated by customer surveys and semi-annual performance monitor evaluations.  Reviewed and approved all Shuttle IV&V documentation, including Technical Reports, SIRs (Software IV&V Reports), DRs (Discrepancy Reports), and TIMs (Technical Issue Memoranda).

Represented company on IEEE working group that developed 2004 revision to IEEE 1012 Software V&V Standard.

Space Shuttle IV&V Project Manager

Concurrent with managing Space Shuttle IV&V, managed the IV&V project for NASA’s International Space Station Flight Software (FSW), including various ISS Computer Software Configuration Items (CSCIs) that execute in ISS Multiplexer-Demultiplexers (MDMs) and Regenerative-Environmental Control and Life Support System (R-ECLSS) firmware controllers.  Project focused on safety-critical aspects of the IV&Ved systems, determined via Criticality Analysis and Risk Assessment (CARA) process.  Supervised geographically-distributed team ranging from 26 to 32 FTE personnel including part-time personnel, subcontractors, and telecommuters.  Project budget was approximately $5 million per year.  Reviewed and approved ISS IV&V documentation including Technical Reports.

Former project manager with over 20 years of experience successfully managing complex independent verification & validation (IV&V) projects focusing on safety- and mission-critical Human Space Flight (HSF) software and systems and with over 35 years of technical experience analyzing and testing HSF software and systems.  Supervised large geographically-distributed team including full- and part-time personnel, subcontractors, and telecommuters.  Consistently met annual project budget targets of $2-to-5 million per year while delivering 100% of over 300 formal products on schedule.  Possesses excellent technical writing and editing skills.
