The views, opinions and content shared are representative of only my point of view and not that of my employer P&G. Have you ever wondered why people do what they do? This question was front of mind as I entered Nottingham Business School. Not to study psychology but to study why people buy. And I knew that studying marketing would only be one part of the puzzle, so I chose to study Business Management. It was this that ignited my passion to run a business. Building a brand, solving challenges, growing an organisation. I had to take the plunge. So a friend and I started a business providing discounts to university students in the UK for an annual subscription. We built a brand, recruited 200+ establishments to take part and sold our socks off. In 6 months we sold 10,000 subs, paid back a £20k bank loan and took home £30k of profit. It was at that point I had the itch to do more. I wanted to learn and develop in a major business. I applied and was offered a role at Procter & Gamble in the UK. Since joining P&G in 2011 I have had a wealth of experiences. Not only in Marketing but also Sales, Finance and total Business Leadership. Today I am leading P&G’s Skincare Business in Europe, based in Switzerland. Even though I have gained vast experience into why people buy, consumer habits are changing daily and the question must continue to be asked. And it isn't just about others' why, but about mine as well. Simon Sinek talks about finding your own WHY. WHY do you do what you do? Yes, absolutely I am driven to grow the business, and I always plan to win. I’m a competitive person. But WHY do I get out of bed on that rainy January morning? My answer: Leaving a positive impact on others. At work this translates to Building Winning Teams. Working with, developing and learning from my team every day is my WHY. There is no better feeling than watching your team contribute, grow and progress in their careers. As a leader, your team’s success is your success. Outside of work I enjoy snowboarding, watching sport, playing basketball, hanging out with my kids and anything in the digital & technology space. I see AI as the next digital revolution, and now is the time to learn it. In 5 years the world of business will be very different & marketing will be THE function to be most impacted according to McKinsey. Richard Feynman said it best, ‘if you want to master something, teach it’. So to keep my commitment to mastering AI & Digital I am sharing what I learn on LinkedIn.
