I used to be scared of going out to eat when I was trying to lose weight and stay in shape 

Fast forward to today and I’m eating a tasting menu at my favorite Indian food (and drinking wine) followed up my ice cream at a top secret location in Washington DC 

And then I’m waking up to a lean, healthy physique the next day 

But it wasn’t always this way 

In my early 20s I was 65+ pounds overweight and struggling to stick to any of the diets I tried 

Eating out at a restaurant usually meant I was going to binge eat and blow my entire week of progress

Luckily that all changed when I hired a nutrition coach who helped me get clear on how to enjoy my life and still be in shape 

That was 15 years ago and it started what I now call the True Transformation 3M system 

There’s a few key things that changed in how I approach nutrition and how I coach my clients 

1) We look at the bigger picture. Instead of stressing one meal we look at the days leading up to a night out and the days following it. We work on 7-10 day averages instead of freaking out about one day 

2) we utilize a protein focused day to allow for more carbs and fats at night if needed 

3) sometimes we use fasting to offset a major calorie meal 

4) we increase our activity around higher calorie days to use the calories and burn more fuel

5) we stop trying to be perfect and instead focus on being 80-90% consistent 

Obviously there’s more but this is where to start 

Weight loss can be achieved without sacrificing the fun in life

-Walk 8,000 steps per day

-Track total calories

-Lift weights 3x per week

-Drink 3 liters of water per day

31-60 days:

-Walk 10,000 steps per day

-Track total calories and protein

-Lift weights 4x per week

-Drink 3 liters of water per day

-Drink no more than 2 drinks per week

​

61-90 days:

-Walk 12,000 steps per day

-Track protein, carbs and fats

-Lift weights 4x per week and add 2 finishers

-Drink 4 liters of water per day

-Work on sleeping 7-8 hours per night

I've been influencing people to get in better shape for the better part of 25 years

My friends and I started doing push ups and curls when I was 13

I'd copy workout programs from magazines

And we'd go crazy in our garages while 2Pac and Nas blared on the speakers.

Even back then - fitness was the fastest way to feel better.

The other day I saw a guy in my gym training his butt off.

He was in a wheelchair

And he was really pushing himself.

He had a huge smile on his face as he was dripping in sweat.

The biggest misconception about taking care of yourself is that fitness is some kind of chore that isn't convenient for your schedule.

Its some kind of strict lifestyle that doesn't allow you to enjoy good food and great drinks.

This couldn't be further from the truth.

Fitness is literally FUEL to the rest of your life.

If you want to be great...fitness can help

If you want to be respected...fitness will help.

If you want more confidence...fitness will certainly get you there.

If you want to become more successful...being fit will be a huge advantage.

Your lunch break is keeping you fat

Let me explain…

Most business owners and busy professionals will use lunch as a networking opportunity 

Or they skip lunch all together 

Maybe they grab lunch with an employee some days but most days it’s either no food or a high calorie meal to discuss business 

Here’s a thought 

1) Start making lunch a 15-30 minute slot and use the other 30 minutes to walk after. And yes… you can encourage your colleagues to join you!! 

This helps you get extra calorie burning time in while also helping you digest food better to avoid that afternoon slump.  

Or

2) keep lunch light 

Grilled lean protein like chicken, shrimp or lean steak on a big bed of greens, fruit and veggies. 

You will never regret eating a high protein high fiber lunch 

It makes a world of a difference when it comes to keeping your appetite at bay and your energy high 

Skip the high calorie lunch 

And make it a point to walk more on your lunch hour. 

Both things combined will help fix your unhealthy eating habits and it will help decrease stress from running a business

This weekend was jam packed with food, activities and all sorts of stuff that threw a curveball into my normal fitness routine.

It all started with it being my son's 8th birthday.

Donuts, ice cream and pizza galore on Saturday.

And yes I had some.

My fitness plan allows for this sort of thing here and there.

And then yesterday was Mother's Day.

I cooked up my world famous chicken parm, pasta and tiramisu.

Then we went to the movies and had popcorn.

Not my normal eating plan, but well worth the extra calories.

(Btw, we saw Planet of the Apes and it was surprisingly good).

Anyway, it's back to my routine today.

And yes I'm up on the scale a few pounds.

So today I'm starting the day with a workout and a walk.

The rest of the day I'm going to let my body reset and get back to normal

And the fastest way to do that for me is the following:

1) Drink plenty of water

2) Avoid food for the first half of the day

3) Move as often as possible

4) Simply get back right back to eating my normal meals

Tonight I'll probably make a delicious grilled chicken salad with fruit and some low calorie dressing.

Then I'll enjoy a protein bar for post dinner snack.

And I'll wake up Tuesday completely normal and back on track.

I know it sounds overly simple.

But that's really the point.

No need to complicate stuff.

Just get back on track.

Nobody ever got out of shape from one weekend.

It's when one weekend turns into one week and then that turns into one month.

So make it a point to make today great.

Good looking people have it easy. Friends, relationships and promotions all come easier to people who look good. We can pretend this isn’t the case but we know it’s true. 

Even if you’re not the best looking person on the planet right now, you can massively upgrade your appearance and attractiveness by losing weight and gaining muscle.
