I'm shining a light on the climate crisis because some people still seem to be in the dark (you know who you are). I'm advocating for global change that will move us away from the climatic and environmental danger zone that we have been flung into by the chubby hands of capitalism, and guiding you towards living a more wholesome, grounded and sustainable life. I grow lots of plants, from organic seeds using organic compost or compost that I've composted myself. I grow plants not just because I'm livin' it up as a Cumbrian farmer gal with a feather in my hat, but because I refuse to contribute financially to a broken food system. I choose to grow, forage and preserve my own food throughout the year to reduce demand and prevent my money from lining the pockets of the corrupt and greedy. I view environmentalism through an intersectional lens so that I can see, and I can help others to see, that systems of oppression have caused the climate crisis. Only through advocating for social justice in its entirety can we achieve true environmental justice on home soil and across the globe. That means I am on a life long journey towards antiracism in which I am learning and unpacking my own racism as a white woman to ensure that I acknowledge the privilege I have been granted by the colour of my skin and use this privilege to amplify the voices of BIPOC, all whilst doing what I can to dismantle systemic racism. I'm a pansexual woman and I alternate between using "Pan" and "Queer" to describe my sexuality, depending on my mood. I'm not 100% sold on being a "woman" and all that identity carries with it, because in many ways I don't feel like a "woman" - think work trousers, steel toe cap boots and dysfunctional ovaries - so gender queer might also be on the table. Right now, I'm comfortable with you using woman and the pronouns she / her to describe me, but equally happy for you to say she / they is / are gender queer! Intersectional environmentalism also reminds us that indigenous cultures have recognised non-binary genders and homosexuality for hundreds of years prior to colonialism, and that much of modern-day homophobia derived from colonialist thinking (e.g. the Karma Sutra has a whole chapter dedicated to homosexual sex positions...). As an ADHDer and ASDer, I also recognise that the capitalist system is incompatible with my brain, that was not designed to hustle hustle hustle behind a desk in a box with no window. I honour my brain and the brain of other neurodivergents by redefining "work. Lucy 👸
