DM me to chat. In today's climate, founders, CEOs, and shareholders are often seen as fair game. In my eyes, they are the heroes of society. We're the people who fight against all the odds to grow an idea into a business and pay salaries and taxes while working, often 12 hour days. It can be challenging and stressful on occasions. Ever since I was a child, I've felt this admiration for those who dared fight against the odds. From Roger Banister, who was the first man to break the four-minute mile, to Winston Churchill, who waged a psychological battle against Hitler and inspired a generation to victory and the long term durability of the inventor Sir James Dyson. These people have inspired me throughout my life to do better. To do better when I was competing in Karate and Triathlon during my twenties and thirties to do better now as the CEO of two companies. I founded Boss Equity in 1999 with the same mentality of competing (and ultimately overcoming) the odds of the software industry. In the case of Boss Equity, I typically work in the $100M+ valuation range but will look at any opportunity, if I feel it is exciting enough and has value. When a software CEO comes to me with the desire to help sell their business or acquire, I take it as my mission to get the best result for them. And that's why I'm happy to say I've now completed over 120 M&A deals on four different continents. Part of that success prompted me to start a new enterprise called OutSmart last year (2021) with my business partner, Neil Cummings. Neil's a cognitive scientist and a bit of a maverick in his own right, so we created OutSmart to help software companies achieve growth using hard principles rooted in cognitive science. Our tagline is "OutSmart, not Outspend". Our service creates for you "Competitive Space(TM) a multi-faceted positioning strategy that is based upon hard-earned experience, research, and science spiced with a blend of creativity. But, through my thirty-year career, I've always known it was my duty to share their successes and insights with as many software entrepreneurs I can. So, they can learn from their trial & error without making the same mistakes themselves. That's why I started the BOSS-it podcast.
