When you upload your resume and are then required to manually input the SAME. EXACT. INFORMATION.

A few months ago, I hired a candidate who was overqualified.

And she's absolutely killing it! 😀 

Instead of making assumptions and declining...

I wanted to learn more about her and her motivation.

💡 She wanted to have good work/life balance.
💡 She wanted a 9-5, no evenings or weekends.
💡 She no longer wanted to be in management.
💡 She no longer wanted to be married to her job.
💡 She wanted to focus on work that energizes her.

Who was I to judge? 

Every story is unique.

Lesson learned and my advice:

“Overqualified” should not be the reason you don't move forward with a candidate.

This morning, I extended a job offer that brought me to tears.

When I said the words “We’d like to offer you the position,” there was a long pause.

She shared she had been searching for a job for five months, faced countless rejections, and was beginning to feel like giving up.

Then I saw she started to cry. 

Which made me cry too. 😀 

Moments like this remind me why I do what I do.

Recruiting isn’t just about filling roles.

It’s about changing lives and giving people a chance.

Some people dread turning 50. 

For me, it was the year I reinvented myself.

After being laid off twice in five years, here is what I’ve learned:

💡 Rejection isn’t the end, it’s redirection.

💡 You are so much more than any job title.

💡 Taking a pause to regroup is healing and recalibrating.

💡 Your next role may give you happiness you never thought possible.

💡 You only need one “yes” and it often comes when you least expect it.

I'm not going to lie.
 
Being a mom who’s always worked outside the home has been HARD.
 
Trying to balance a career and motherhood was challenging even on the best of days. 
 
But somewhere along the way my sons were watching.

Companies:

Please stop saying you are a family.
A family does not:

◾ Pay you a salary and provide benefits
◾ Give you a set number of vacation days
◾ Lay you off when you no longer serve them
◾ Put you on a Performance Improvement Plan
◾ Stack rank you against other family members

It blurs boundaries, manipulates loyalty and plus, no company will ever love and care for me as much as my own family does.

Companies say they can’t find good talent. 

Meanwhile, their job postings say:

💡 Entry-level
↳ But requires 5 years of experience

 💡 Competitive salary
↳ Yet pays peanuts and isn’t competitive

💡 Fast-paced environment
 ↳ Translation: we’re severely understaffed

💡 Must be flexible
↳ Meaning no work-life balance and constant chaos

💡 Bachelor's degree required
↳ But won’t consider candidates with 20 years of experience

💡 Hybrid role 
↳ That somehow expects you in the office five days a week

💡 Team player 
↳ Meaning you’ll be covering for three open positions

💡 Work hard, play hard 
↳ Translation: you’ll burn out fast. Really, fast.

💡 Join our family
 ↳ Until we lay you off with zero notice via text message

The issue isn’t a lack of talent.

And Job seekers aren’t the problem.

Unrealistic expectations and hiring practices are.
