PandaDoc

As teams grow, empathy for customers becomes much more difficult. The result: irrelevant products that fail to resonate with customers. Poor products lead to slowed growth.

As a rapidly-growing team, PandaDoc's PMs, Designers, and Engineers faced many additional layers of challenge: time zone, cultural, and language barriers made it even harder to connect with their primarily USA-based users.

My team pioneered methods that worked for PandaDoc's unique situation; research was sold and enabled internally and resulted in:
- Better UI/engineering quality, with more on-target products
- Cross-department collaboration to solve customer problems
- Increased in-product conversion rates

Head of User Research

After my promotion to PM Growth & Insight, I doubled down on using research & customer empathy to lead to a dramatically better product for customers.

I internally sold, launched, and fanned the flames of a NPS (customer centricity) program that captured the imagination of the company, from the CEO to senior leadership, all the way down to individual contributors in sales and product.

This fervor was necessary to address the insidious problems that the NPS program unearthed; without the addressing of two of these changes, the company could have had a very different trajectory.

Ultimately, the resulting uplifts in NPS due to key product changes led to increased faith from investors and certainly didn't hurt PandaDoc's $1bn+ valuation soon after.

PM Growth & Insight

Created and ran a breakout conversion-rate optimization program:

- Created multiple double-digit uplifts, with a 3x-industry-standard A/B test win rate
- Implemented a scalable, repeatable process that was usable after I was promoted
- Collaborated across sales, marketing and product to test and implement wins

Revenue Engineer

Letter Friend

When I joined Letter Friend, the organization was in a state of passivity. Deals came in entirely through inbound; in my work with the team, we turned the organization from an entirely passive one, into a proactive one, driving growth.

We:
- Used research to narrow in on the most profitable clients
- Re-made the website to improve the conversion rate of visit -> paid and
- Used a process to test a variety of channels which led to increased revenue and new ways to grow

Raisal

I worked as employee # 1 with the team at Raisal to build and grow the raisal.com platform, from scratch, to:

1. A proof of concept that helped investors see the light, and ultimately led to funding
2. A product that attracts many commercial lenders and borrowers in the United States

My roles involved:
- Software engineering
- Product manager
- Interim scrum master

Software Developer

BitSplit

BitSplit was a single-paged bitcoin-based game; I led development and conceived of and executed many experiments that helped us grow.

Here, several wins hammered home the power of incentives, of simplicity, and of eliciting customer feedback early and often:

Some of our wins:
- A referral program with the right incentives helped us grow cheaply and rapidly.
- A continued focus on simplicity helped with user experience as well keeping engineering efforts on our core issues.
- Our learning accelerated rapidly as we began to do deeper research on our customers.

We ultimately decided to shut this venture down, but I went on to work with one of my co-founders at Raisal.

LemonFree.com

I built and grew a platform, from the ground up, to automatically scrape and centralize data from many car dealership websites.

Unlike other services, I created a frontend that could be maintained by a non-programmer, thus making the system much more scalable and maintainable than other solutions at the time.

This ultimately enabled end users to have more options when searching for a car, thus positively impacting revenue for the auto-search site.

ITK Information Services

Identified the need for, advocated for, and ultimately built a platform that transformed the way ITK Information Services does business. The platform has led to dramatically decreased costs, better team coordination, and overall higher quality.

This platform has now been used for over a decade to create reports for high-profile clients such as:
- Uber
- DreamWorks
- Blizzard Entertainment
- Universal Studios
- And many more household names

"Nathan first started working as a media analyst with ITK.
