I once developed stomach ulcers out of stress

(Burnout is real and you should be avoiding it) 

Circa 2019
→ I was a postgrad student studying journalism 
→ This was at one of India’s most competitive universities 
→ Students were dropping out because of the pressure 
→ I was also a freelance content writer then
→ My client count was 7 

Making bank while studying! 
Sounds like a dream, right? 
Except that it was a nightmare 🥲

I was in a toxic long distance relationship
Crying all day and night 
Trying to complete my freelance work 
And also do justice to my curriculum 

→ Sleep schedule? - furked up 
→ Working hours? - 20 a day 
→ Cortisol level? - skyrocketing
→ Fitness? - zero

The only consolation was $$$ in the bank 
Till it was not 

I developed stomach ulcers and had myself bed ridden for days on end multiple times 

I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety
The panic attacks were recurring

And that’s when I had to let go of a few clients 

I graduated
Came back home 
Took therapy 
Put my freelance business on hold 
Got a full time job for 5 years

I had my whole life mapped out till I’d be 30

(It turned out nothing like that but better) 

We’ve been fed by the society 
A timeline that looks ideal 

I too had a plan 
- Get into the college of my dreams for journalism at 18
- Become a journalist at 21
- Travel abroad at 24
- Get married at 27
- Have a kid by 30 

Well, safe to say it went nothing like that 
(Maybe a little, but not really) 

- Got into an engineering college at 18
- Pivoted at 22, did postgrad in journalism
- Became a journalist at 24
- Haven’t travelled abroad yet 
- Got married at 27
- Separated at 27 
- Pivoted to marketing at 28
- Started building my business at 29
- Travelling every month at 29
- Planning my first travel abroad at 29

You see? 
Nothing like what I had in mind 
But also a bit like what I had in mind 

I sure didn’t follow a timeline 
I sure delayed a few things by years 

But where I am now
Is the best place I’ve ever been 

- I found my calling 
- I fell in love, learnt what isn’t love
- I dealt with my inner wounds 
- I pivoted and found what lit the fire in me
- I gained some friends, I lost some 
- I got closer to my parents 
- I realised I was stronger than I ever thought
- I am building my business in public
- I have learnt more in 8 months than 8 years
- I am learning and unlearning each day
- I live in abundance 
- I am grateful for the blows 
- I am who I am because I fought
- I am who I am because I never gave up

Life’s unpredictable

I am done chasing a good follower count

(My trip to Leh gave me more perspective than I ever thought)

Ever since I started on here, my goals had been

- Hit at least 150-200 likes a post

- Make money 

Shallow, right? 

Not anymore though

In the chase for all of these, I lost myself

- I stopped enjoying writing on here 
- Replying to the comments became a chore
- Checking my follower count everyday became exhausting 

Landed back in Delhi today and made some new rules

- Even though I had dreamt of hitting the 40k follower count by the end of 2024, if it happens, great. If it doesn’t, not a loss. 

- I am not going to write everyday here anymore. 
My new posting time will be Monday-Friday 4 pm IST/12:30 pm BST 

- I will not care about formatting anymore. I’d rather write just as my heart tells me to. 

- Likes will not be a priority, leads will be. 
Making bank is crucial. 

Life’s more than simply chasing numbers though - On dollar bills or on LinkedIn. 

I got to witness beauty in its purest form this week.

Had tears of joy. Literally.

I realised I wouldn’t want to miss out on any of it anymore. 

Work stays a priority. I owe it to myself.

But life? 

It’s everything. It’ll remain everything. 
If not to myself, I owe it to the life itself.
