Most companies say “people are our greatest asset”…

Yet they still pay everyone inside the same corporate bands.

Meanwhile, the top performers, the ones who actually move the needle… the ones creating disproportionate impact… get rewarded exactly like the ones who don’t.

And then everyone is shocked when the competition takes them.

If someone is driving 20 percent of the effort and 80 percent of the results… pay them like it. Promote them faster. Break your own rules if you have to.

Because the market doesn’t care about your internal pay bands.

Shenzhen to Hong Kong in the morning… started at 7 a.m., crossed the border, and by 8 a.m. we were already in Kowloon West. Fifteen minute bullet train… insane how easy this route has become.

Packed the day with great meetings, and even decided to sneak in a “hike” to the Peak.

Well… full disclosure… we cheated. Took a taxi up and then hiked down ... all in 20,594 steps.

Now back to Shenzhen.

Transform AND Perform. both at the same time!

You redesign the plane while you fly it.

a common topic in talking to executives...
There is no luxury of two years to transform. You do it while you deliver.

This is the new reality for leaders.

I see this everywhere in the value chain.

In logistics, teams are rolling out automation pilots while fixing late deliveries daily.

In manufacturing, companies are redesigning their networks while still hitting output targets in complex plants.

In consumer goods, organisations are shifting to AI driven planning while still meeting quarterly forecasts under massive volatility.

Nobody can afford to pause operations and “come back in two years” with a perfect model. The world moves too fast, competitors move even faster, and customers move even faster than that.

1. Over 17,000 high tech manufacturers operate in Shenzhen today.
This is the world’s densest cluster of electronics, semiconductors, robotics, and new energy supply chains. If you buy a device… there is a high chance its core components were touched here.
