Does experience matter? ๐ฏ

Does it make a difference if the manager has done the job before they get promoted to management? I think it counts for a lot. If they've been on the front line, then they understand the highs and lows, the challenges and pitfalls, the realities of the job. They can empathise better. And empathy isn't optional in a management role. Because here's what great managers understand: โณ Empathy isn't a soft skill, it's a superpower โณ Understanding your team's world changes the game โณ True leadership starts with feeling their pain Let's break down why empathy matters: โ It builds trust โณ When you've walked in their shoes, you earn respect โณ Teams follow leaders who get their struggles โ It drives performance โณ Understood employees are engaged employees โณ Empathy fuels motivation like nothing else โ It solves problems faster โณ You can't fix what you don't understand โณ Real solutions come from real insight Smart leaders know this: โ Don't fake it โณ Nodding along isn't enough โณ Surface-level empathy destroys credibility โ Don't ignore the signals โณ A stressed team is a reflection of leadership โณ Ignored problems fester and explode โ Don't stop learning โณ Your team's world changes daily โณ Great managers are always tuning in Because here's the reality: โ Empathy isn't found in management books โ It's forged in the trenches with your team โ Your greatest insights come from their daily grind The best managers: โ Do the actual job โณ They feel the deadlines, the stress, the pressure โณ They know what good (and bad) really looks like โ Listen actively โณ They ask tough questions and shut up โณ They take notes, not just nods โ Roll up their sleeves โณ They don't hide in meetings โณ They jump into the chaos to truly understand Your job as a leader? Create an environment where empathy thrives. Here's how to start: 1๏ธโฃ Spend a day in their world โณ Feel the strain. Understand the pressure. 2๏ธโฃ Sit with your team regularly โณ Ask: "What's the hardest part right now?" 3๏ธโฃ Remember your own struggles โณ Recall how it felt when you faced similar issues 4๏ธโฃ Offer real help, not clichรฉs โณ "How can I help?" beats "You'll be fine" every time 5๏ธโฃ Remove roadblocks actively โณ Spot problems, fix problems, build trust 6๏ธโฃ Celebrate small wins loudly โณ Recognition fuels motivation. Amplify success. 7๏ธโฃ Never belittle their stresses โณ Every struggle is valid. Period. Because here's the truth: If you're leading without empathy, you're not leading. You're just managing badly. The cost of low empathy? โณ Higher turnover โณ Lower productivity โณ Poor mental health โณ Zero loyalty The question isn't whether empathy matters. It's whether you're brave enough to truly feel what your team feels. Remember: Good managers get tasks done. Great managers get people. Empathy isn't a nice-to-have. It's your leadership superpower. - - - - - โป๏ธShare and repost if this resonated And follow me, Jonny Tooze, for more insights on authentic leadership.

The Three-Headed Monster: In business partnerships, finding the right partners is everything. ๐ Alex likes to call us the "three-headed monster"โthree distinct minds, working in sync, each focused on our areas of expertise: โก Barry Hartman, CEO โ Setting the vision, driving expansion, strategic planning, and supporting our leadership team. Weโre scaling 505-Junk and Bolt Accelerator into new markets, growing our impact, and building something bigger than ourselves. โก Scott Foran, President โ Overseeing finance, human resources, and business developmentโkeeping our foundation strong and making sure weโre positioned for long-term success. โก Alex Elsey, Vice President, Sales and Operations โ Leading inbound sales, account management, quality control, and productionโensuring our service is top-notch while optimizing operations at scale. But what truly makes this partnership work isnโt just our complementary skillsโitโs trust at the deepest level. Not just trust that weโll do the right thing, but trust that weโll get the job done. Thereโs no micromanaging. No second-guessing. Just confidence that we each own our lane and are committed to pushing this company forward. That kind of trust is the foundation of everything weโve built. I couldnโt ask for better business partnersโor better friends. And to our incredible teamโnone of this happens without you. Weโre just getting started. ๐ Whoโs been a game-changing business partner in your journey? Tag them in the comments and give them the recognition they deserve! ๐ #505Junk #Leadership #BusinessPartners #Entrepreneurship #Expansion
Wish I had thought of this title! Great article Phil. Solid advice and relatable examples and references. When companies invest in improving their teams ability to connect magic happens - this skill can be used by the team and is transferrable to the people they work with.
Time Box Magic? I've not heard of that one and will give it a try! Actually it seems to me that setting a timer more often in general could be a game changer. There's a little more meat there than just a block in a calendar.

Ever feel like your to-do list is a never-ending game of whack-a-mole? You tackle one task, and three more pop up? You're not alone. A shocking 82% of high achievers report feeling overwhelmed by their daily tasks. But what if I told you the problem isn't your workload โ it's your system? After coaching hundreds of high performers, I've distilled productivity into 7 game-changing strategies that actually work. No fluff, just results. ๐ The Power 7 1. Time Box Magic Set a timer for 2 minutes less than you think you need. Watch your productivity soar! 2. The 50/10 Rule 50 minutes focused work + 10 minutes strategic breaks = sustainable performance 3. Evening Power Hour Your morning success starts the night before. Period. 4. Early Advantage Being early isn't about punctuality - it's about owning your day 5. Micro-Progress Method Big goals โ Small steps โ Massive results 6. Zero Inbox System Handle it once; handle it right. 7. The Simplicity Rule: One in, one out. Keep life lean and purposeful. ๐ก Here's the truth: Success isn't about working harder but working smarter. ๐ Which of these 7 strategies will you implement first? Share below, and let's optimize your productivity together! ๐ #ProductivityHacks #LeadershipDevelopment #WorkSmarter #SuccessMindset #ExecutiveCoaching
