In a review of five years of investment and revenue data, the gender-focused analysis showed a clear funding gap
 
• Investments in companies founded or cofounded by women averaged $935,000, which is less than half the average $2.1 million invested in companies founded by male entrepreneurs. 
 
• Despite this disparity, startups founded and cofounded by women actually performed better over time, generating 10% more in cumulative revenue over a five-year period: $730,000 compared with $662,000.

A new paper shows Small Language Models often outperform massive LLMs like GPT-4 or Claude in real-world use

The reason is simple: Most agent tasks (summarizing docs, extracting info, writing templates, calling APIs) are predictable. For these, SLMs are cheaper and better.

▪️ Smaller ≠ weaker. Toolformer (6.7B) beats GPT-3 (175B). DeepSeek-R1-Distill (7B) outperforms Claude 3.5 and GPT-4o on reasoning.

▪️ 10–30x cheaper, faster, and deployable locally.

▪️ Easy to fine-tune with LoRA or QLoRA.

▪️ Perfect fit for structured outputs like JSON or Python.

The smarter architecture is clear. Default to SLMs. Call an LLM only when absolutely necessary.

The future of AI agents looks like is modular systems built on SLMs.

🚨 McKinsey studied 50+ agentic AI builds and found most companies are doing it wrong
Here are the 6 lessons that matter:

▪️ Reimagine workflows, not agents. The real gains come from redesigning how people, processes, and tech interact

▪️ Match tools to steps. Complex workflows need the right tech in the right place.

▪️ Invest in evaluations. Without measuring performance, agents drift into “AI slop” and lose trust.

▪️ Track and verify every step. Build observability so mistakes surface early.

▪️ Reuse components. Modular agents can cut effort by 30–50% across workflows.

▪️ Humans still matter. Judgment, oversight, and handling edge cases remain essential.

The takeaway: agentic AI wins when companies redesign entire workflows, not when they chase flashy agents.

Jensen Huang: “VCs don’t invest in business plans”

At Stanford, the NVIDIA founder kept it real:

“VCs invest in great people. Not plans.”

Geoff Ralston, former President of Y Combinator, created one of the clearest playbooks on raising your first round. It draws on lessons from people who shaped early-stage investing like Paul Graham, Fred Wilson, Babak Nivi, Sal Khan, and Carolynn Levy, the creator of SAFE notes

Here are some of the biggest takeaways:

▪️ Raise when you have a compelling story, a product people use, and growth that feels undeniable

▪️ Plan to fund at least 12 to 18 months of operations, usually between 500K and 1.5M, and avoid obsessing over valuation

YC Guide to Seed Fundraising

Most corporate jobs are theater. And everyone knows it 🎭

Meetings about meetings. Decks that no one reads. Titles that sound important but mean nothing...

The pandemic exposed it for a moment. Some jobs vanished overnight. Others shrank to three hours a day. Now people are back in offices, but the belief in corporate work is gone

The strangest part is how conscious it feels. People know their roles are hollow, but they keep playing along because the salary funds their real life. Some are using the structure to launch side projects. Others quietly automate their jobs and spend their days building something of their own.

The offices still gleam and the emails still flow, but the faith is evaporating. The corporate role is dying, not with a crash but with a loss of belief.
