Staff leave. It's a fact of life in business. It’s one of the hardest things you need to accept as a manager or leader people Perhaps they're bored, and they are up for a new challenge. Perhaps they've been offered a salary they can't refuse. Or, and this one might sting, it may be that they don't feel valued enough in their current position. Sometimes letting employees go is the right thing for them and your business. On a lighter note, maybe you're wondering why I call myself the Liam Neeson of staff retention. Well, it's my theatrical background, that proves a lot handier than you'd think. Let me tell you all about it. I fell in love with my muse in 2006. We were at a birthday party for a good friend and there she was. Exotic, creative, playful and exactly what I had been missing in my life. Improv changed me that day when I saw a human turn themselves into a rubix cube at a dinner party where the guests could only speak gibberish. I was smitten, as a performer I knew that I had to be a part of this magical and wonderful world so I investigated how to be part of it and started training. Having spent time perfecting my craft and really building on the foundations of that, I began to play Theatresports with a troupe I was lucky enough to be able to join. That muse stays with me still today. Improv is as much a part of my life as the LEGO I use in my workshops and the air I breathe everyday. Helping businesses and humans reconnect with play, creativity and fun is what drives me. Yes, there are times when we need to be serious but not all the time in my humble opinion. When you bring creativity, fun and play to an environment you create engagement and that brings productivity.
