I’ll just say it… I love food retail. I was speaking today to a women’s leadership group this morning about my journey, and it hit me. The speech was about personal branding, but selling and promoting food IS part of my brand. Technology can be before its time. I remember working on Scan and Go back in 2006. You know the one... - Scanners are available on a wall when you enter the store - Scan your card - Scan your groceries and weigh your items - Go to checkout The trouble was that nobody wanted to do this. It was: - too cumbersome - time-consuming - Items didn't scan The project was abandoned. Fast forward to today, when I went to @walmart and was in and out of the store in 8 minutes using Scan and Go with Walmart+ The difference? - Connected to your phone - Intuitive scanning - Connected to self-checkout Sometimes, ideas are just ahead of their time. The technology and operations needed to catch up to make them successful. The reminder is: if something isn't working quite right, don't give up on it. It just might be before its time.
