You’ll be waiting forever.

Growth doesn't happen in the safe zone.

It happens when you’re unsure, uncomfortable, 
And doing something you could easily talk yourself out of.

My career didn’t take off until I stopped trying to play it safe.

That meant reaching out to people I “wasn’t ready for”, 
And asking for intros I hadn’t earned yet on paper.

None of that happens if you wait for permission.

After years of building my network, one pattern is obvious:

The people who grow fastest aren’t avoiding risk.
They’ve just realized that staying comfortable is the bigger risk.

Here’s how they actually think about risk:

1️⃣ You don't need to be ready. You need to start.
↳ Waiting for the “right time” is how nothing happens.

2️⃣ Doubt never goes away. You just act anyway.
↳ Confidence comes after action, not before.

3️⃣ The biggest risks pay off the most.
↳ Small bets get small returns. Go bigger.

4️⃣ You learn faster when there’s something on the line.
↳ Real conversations beat thinking about them.

5️⃣ The right people respect action.
↳ Your network notices who’s actually building.

6️⃣ Stop waiting for permission.
↳ Nobody’s coming to give you a green light.

7️⃣ Action builds confidence. Confidence creates access.
↳ That’s how your network starts opening up.

Risk feels scary now.

But in a few years, you’ll regret the moves you didn’t make,
Far more than the ones that didn’t work.

I've seen this play out millions of times:

Comfort keeps more people stuck than fear ever could.

Here’s something most people don’t want to admit:

They’re not scared to fail.
They’re scared to look stupid for wanting more.

So they stay.

They stay in roles they’ve already outgrown.
And in rooms that don't challenge them to grow. 

All because that's what's "socially acceptable."

And that’s the trap.

We’ve been taught that personal development means adding things.
More discipline, habits, pressure.

But the real growth looks the opposite.

It’s subtraction.

Dropping the excuses that sound responsible.
The stories you tell yourself to justify not moving.

Staying where you are will slowly change you.
Just not in the direction you think.

Nothing breaks or explodes.

You just make small calls every day that train you to play smaller:

- You stop pushing yourself.
- You stop saying what you think.
- You stop trusting your judgement.

That’s how people drift.

Not from one big mistake.
From a thousand “this is fine” decisions.

And here's the practical part most people skip...

Growing doesn't mean you have to make a huge change.

You just need to start asking:

- Where am I tolerating something I already know isn’t right?
- What decision am I delaying because it’s awkward?
- Where am I choosing comfort over responsibility?

Stop pretending that staying put is neutral.
Because it isn’t.

Comfort is a choice. 

But so is growth.

POV: You are a digital marketer in 2026.

It would drive most people crazy 😂

You’re expected to be a copywriter, strategist, videographer,
Social media manager, designer, and editor…

All before lunch.

This is especially true in startups,
Where a “job description” is more of a suggestion.

You don’t have one role. You have five.
(On a good day.)

Is it the ideal situation? Not really. 
Is it chaotic? Absolutely. 

But if you’re early in your career,
This is actually a gift in disguise.

You get exposure to the full funnel.
Not just one tiny piece of it.

You learn what works, what breaks,
And what everyone pretends is working.

While being involved in every stage of the funnel.

More importantly, you’re surrounded by people with different strengths:

✅ The media buyer who spots angles you’d never think of.
✅ The founder who reframes your thinking in one conversation.
✅ The dev who quietly fixes problems that double conversion rates.

Learning from these people will level you up faster than any course ever will.

So don’t write off the role just because it’s messy.
It's probably the fastest route to being a better marketer.

Think your brand colors don’t matter?

You’re wrong.

If you’re picking brand colors because they “look nice,”
You need to think again.

The best brands don’t choose colors randomly.
They choose them intentionally.

Because your brand colors shouldn't just be there to look pretty.
They’re signals for how your brand wants to be perceived.

They shape: 

➡️ How people feel.
➡️ How people perceive you.
➡️ How people make decisions.

Here’s what different colors communicate:

Green 💚

→ Stability
→ Growth
→ Health

Blue 🦋

→ Calm
→ Trust
→ Reliability

Black ◼️

→ Confidence
→ Authority
→ Strength

Orange 🍊

→ Energy
→ Creativity
→ Approachability

Pink 🌸

→ Playfulness
→ Connection
→ Warmth

Yellow 🐥

→ Curiosity
→ Optimism
→ Hope

Purple 🟣

→ Intrigue
→ Mindfulness
→ Original thinking

Red 🍎

→ Power
→ Urgency
→ Attention

Don’t pick colors because they’re trendy or safe.

Pick the ones that reinforce what you want people to feel.

So before you lock in your branding, ask yourself:

➡️ How do I want people to feel when they see my brand?
➡️ Do my colors support that feeling or fight it?
➡️ Are my current choices helping or hurting that?

Strong brands don’t explain themselves.
They’re understood immediately.

That’s the power of getting this right.

Networking advice you should actually follow:

Stop treating relationships like a checklist.

Instead (crazy idea) just start showing up for people. 

Everyone thinks networking is about what you gain from others.  

But real networking is about what you give. 

Here are 3 steps to build better relationships: 

1️⃣ Show up consistently, before you need something
↳ Don't wait until you need an intro to reach out.
↳ People remember who was there before they needed to ask.

2️⃣ Follow up without making it weird
↳ Most people don't follow up at all. That alone puts you ahead.
↳ Send a follow up within 24 hours and reference something specific.

3️⃣ Celebrate other people's wins publicly
↳ Comment on their announcement, share their post, or tag them.
↳ Public shoutouts are a bigger gesture than a private message.

These behaviors separate real relationships from transactional ones. 

When people see you as someone who shows up and genuinely cares, 
You'll stay top of mind when it matters.  

That's how you grow your network organically and open doors,
Even when you're not in the room.

You think you only need a Social Media Manager? Cute.

What you actually need is a marketing team.

Here’s the pattern I see over and over:

A founder wants to “go viral.”
So they hire one Social Media Manager (whatever that means).

Next thing you know, that one person is covering half your marketing function.

And within a few weeks, the same things always happen:

🚫 They realize the role was wildly undersold. 
🚫 They’re juggling too much to do any of it well.
🚫 They burn out faster than you can say "content calendar." 

That doesn’t scale. It breaks people.

Because social media isn’t one job.
It's a marketing TEAM that requires several roles. 

If you want this done properly, here’s what actually needs to exist:

📸 A content creator making killer videos
✍️ A copywriter to maintain your brand voice
🎨 A graphic designer who smashes brand visuals

Not by one person doing everything.

But asking the wrong people is expensive.

That’s the trap.

Networking breaks when you treat every opinion the same.
Some people are worth listening to. Most aren’t.

And if you take advice from the wrong people,
You start playing a losing game.

Here's the question I ask myself before I listen to anyone:

Would I trade places with them?

→ Their network.
→ Their career.
→ Their results.

If the answer is no, I move on.

Not because they’re stupid.
But because they haven’t lived what I want to live.

So before you ask for advice, ask for proof.
And before you take someone seriously, look at who takes them seriously.

When you do this, you stop collecting opinions and start learning from experience.

That shift changes everything.

January rolls around. 

And everyone decides they need to change themselves.

New habits, routines, personality.
A completely new “version” of who they are.

And honestly... I think that’s a load of BS.

You don’t need to become someone new.
You need to stop fighting who they already are.

Because real personal growth isn’t about piling more on.

No no.

It’s about removing the things that drain you. 

That’s the lens I’m taking into this year. 

Not a resolution list. A replacement list.

Here’s what that looks like for me:

❌ Chasing validation → ✅ Chasing self-trust
❌ Optimizing energy → ✅ Protecting energy
❌ Saying yes → ✅ Saying no
❌ Looking successful → ✅ Feeling successful
❌ Filling time → Creating time
❌ Changing yourself → ✅ Backing yourself

This isn’t about doing less for the sake of it.
It’s about having more control and developing better judgment.

Real personal development is about learning how to:

- Make cleaner decisions
- Protect your energy before it’s gone
- Trust yourself without needing approval
- Stop defaulting to what looks good and start choosing what works

That’s actual growth.

So while everyone else spends January trying to “fix” themselves.

You can grow by not forcing yourself to do more things that clearly aren’t working.

And watch how 2026 doesn’t just feel different,
It actually helps you develop for the long term.

Are you annoying with your follow-ups?

Be honest.

Most networking messages kinda suck.

Not because you’re annoying or you followed up “too much.”
But because the message gives the other person nothing to work with.

Your follow-ups are your chance to be useful. 
A way to share insights or value that only you can offer.

That’s where this framework comes in.

I call it R.E.A.C.H
A simple way to send follow-ups that people actually respond to.

R – Reference their context

Lead with their world, not yours.
Mention something they said, shared, or care about.

Show you were paying attention.

E – Extend something useful

Don't "just check in."
Share a resource or insight they actually need.

Give the message a reason to exist.

A – Align with their goals

Tie your message to where they're headed.
Make the relevance obvious.

People respond when it connects to what already matters to them.

C – Choose your moments

Reach out after something meaningful happens.
A post, launch, change, a win. Whatever it may be.

Timing changes how everything lands.

H – Hold back when needed

A few strategic follow-ups beat a load of pointless nudges.
Space them out. Add value each time or stop.


People don’t respond because you followed up.
They respond because the follow-up was worth responding to. 

Use this framework to make sure your follow-ups are always relevant.

Because that's what good networking looks like in practice.

Everyone has an opinion on marketing.

“Just send a few emails.”
“Can we make it punchier?”

As if results come from vibes and adjectives.

Meanwhile, real marketers are balancing a dozen moving parts at once.

Here’s just some of what a legit marketer needs to know:

🧠 User psychology 
🔁 Offer iteration
⚙️ Funnel structure 
🧲 Lead gen strategy 
🎨 Creative direction
✍️ Writing copy that sells
📊 Analytics and attribution
📈 How to convert attention into action
📣 How to keep a brand sounding like one voice
🧵 How to tell the right story in the right order
🎯 Knowing exactly who you’re for (and who you’re not)
🧍 Knowing the buyer better than they know themselves

And that’s just scratching the surface.

Marketing sits at the crossroads of
Human behavior, creativity, economics, and psychology.

So no, it’s not just “posting on Instagram.”

🚫 Miss the mark, and even a great product struggles.
✅ Nail it, and average products outperform everyone.

That’s why you’re not paying marketers for their hours.
You’re paying them for their ability to drive attention, trust, and revenue.

So either put in the time to learn it properly,
Or trust the people who already have.

Either way, respect the craft.

Every email sends a signal.

But most people have no idea what they're showing.

Think about how many times you’ve opened a message and immediately thought,
“Here we go…”

Where the person reaching out thinks they’re being polite,
But you're reading it, rolling your eyes, and moving on.

That gap is exactly why so many messages get ignored.

Here’s how basic networking lines actually land.

When you say:
“Just checking in.”

What they hear:
“I don’t have a real reason to be in your inbox.”

When you say:
“Did you see my last message?”

What they hear:
“I’m not confident this is worth your time.”

When you say:
“Would love to pick your brain sometime.”

What they hear:
“I want access without context.”

This isn’t about being clever with words.
It’s about how you show up.

Strong networkers don’t show relevance.
They lead with context and value.

That looks more like:

“I saw you mention X. Here’s something that might help.”
“Quick idea related to what you’re working on.”
“Would a short chat be useful to pressure-test this?”

No chasing or awkward follow-ups.

Just a clear message that earns its place in someone’s inbox.

If you keep getting ignored,
I'm sorry to break it to you, but it's probably not the algorithm.

It’s the signal you’re sending.

I love networking.

Especially the part where nothing happens.

You send messages.
You show up and smile politely.

But nothing happens. 

So your brain goes:
“Cool. So...should I just become a hermit?”

Trust me, I've been there plenty of times 😂

That awkward, silent phase...
That’s the dreaded dip.

The part where you question every life choice that led you to typing “Just circling back!” for the 100th time.

But here’s what most people don’t realize:

The dip isn’t a sign it’s not working.
It’s a sign you’re early.

And it's not the be-all and end-all of your network. 
It's just a lull before things start kicking in. 

So, if you're in the dip right now, contemplating your entire life decisions... 

Here's what you need to do:

✅ Keep showing up even when it feels pointless.
↳ The results are building, you just can't see them yet. 

✅ Follow up even when it feels awkward.
↳ Most people don't, so use that as an advantage.

✅ Stop comparing your month three to someone else's year ten.
↳ You're not behind. You're just building.

Networks grow the same way anything worthwhile does:
Through the messy middle.

Most people think they're trapped in life.

But the cage door is wide open.

What's wild is that most people can SEE the door.

They just don’t walk through it.

They tell themselves:

"I'm not ready yet."
"I'll reach out once I'm more successful."
"I don't have anything interesting to say."

So they stay invisible.

I used to think I needed to be "better" before I reached out.
That I had to wait until I had more to offer.

But that's a losing strategy.

You can only build confidence by doing the things you're scared of.

If you want to escape the cage, here's what you need to do:

1️⃣ Reframe rejection 

Most people don't respond because they're busy...
Not because you're not good enough.

2️⃣ Make one small move every day.

Send one message, comment on a post, or go to a new event. 
Those small moves add up fast.

3️⃣ Stop waiting to feel ready.

You'll never feel 100% ready. 
The people who win are like Nike... they just do it. 

4️⃣ Get in rooms that stretch you.

If you're always comfortable, you're not growing. 
Push into spaces that challenge you.

You don't need permission to grow your network.
You just need to stop making excuses.

The door is already open.
All you need to do is walk through it.

Your reputation isn't built on what you say.

People don't trust your LinkedIn posts.

👉 Listen more than you talk

Let someone finish before you jump in with your answer.
Real relationships start when you stop performing and start paying attention.

👉 Do what you say you'll do 

Your follow-through matters more than your pitch.
Nobody cares what you said you'd do. They care about what you actually did.

👉 Respond when people follow up 

Ignoring intros and messages kills your reputation fast.
When you respond, people remember. When you don't, they move on.

👉 Celebrate other people's wins publicly 

Call out the success that usually goes unnoticed.
Your network grows when you make others look good.

👉 Own your mistakes quickly 

Address the impact, skip the excuses.
People trust you more when you admit you screwed up and then fix it.

👉 Show up on time 

Being late signals that your time matters more than theirs.
Being on time is the easiest way to show that you respect the person you're meeting.

👉 Give clear, actionable feedback that helps people

Don't just point out what's wrong. Show them how to fix it.
Help them get better, and they'll come back to you. Just criticize, and they'll avoid you.

👉 Protect your damn people

If someone's getting unfairly called out or dismissed, step in.
Loyalty is remembered long after the moment passes.

👉 Stay consistent, don't just show up when it's convenient

Let your actions match your standards daily.
Flashy gets attention. Reliable builds networks.

👉 Put the relationship before the transaction

Give value first. Make the ask later.
Your network grows when people feel like more than a means to an end.

When you start doing these things,
People will connect you to opportunities before you even ask.

Most people overestimate what one big change will do.

And massively underestimate what small changes do over time.

There’s a name for this way of thinking:
Kaizen.

It’s a Japanese concept built around continuous improvement.

Tiny upgrades, done consistently, that quietly stack in your favor.

And it applies to personal growth way more than people realize.

Personal growth doesn’t come from breakthroughs.
It comes from what you repeat when no one’s watching.

Everyone wants a dramatic reset.
New routine. New habits. New version of themselves.

That’s usually where things fall apart, trust me...

Kaizen works because it skips the 'reset entirely' mindset.

Instead of overhauling your life, you improve one thing.
Then you do it again.
And again.

Small improvements done consistently win, 
Because they’re realistic and sustainable.

That’s the Kaizen mindset.

You don’t need to change everything.
You need to tighten one thing at a time.

That’s how real progress actually happens.

Here’s how to apply Kaizen to your own growth without overthinking it:

1️⃣ Pick one thing that’s clearly not working
Not five. Not your whole life. One friction point.

2️⃣ Make it slightly better, not perfect 
Easier. Faster. Less effort. Improvement beats perfection.

3️⃣ Repeat it until it feels boring
Boring is a sign the system is working.

4️⃣ Review weekly and adjust quietly
No judgment. Just small course corrections.

That’s it.

No motivation speeches or overnight transformations.
Just steady improvement you can actually sustain.

The people who “level up” didn’t find a secret.
They adopted Kaizen, whether they knew the word or not.

And they stick with it long enough for it to show.

So yes, it might not feel powerful while you’re doing it. 

But that's why it works.

A massive network won’t save you.

Familiar faces can still hold you back.

Because you can network with anyone...

But not everyone deserves a spot in your network. 

The key is spotting "green flags" early.

Aka the behaviors that separate people worth keeping, 
From people who drain your energy.

I learned about these the hard way.

When I first started building GrowRev,
I kept a few people close because they’d been around forever.

But every time I talked to them,
I left drained and started second-guessing myself.

The moment I started choosing people who actually gave a damn, 
Everything took off.

And that's when I realized I had to be brutal about who I allowed into my life.

The people I keep close have all have the same green flags: 

🏆 They celebrate your wins.

Real supporters get excited when you succeed. 
They're not threatened by your growth.

🏆 They remember the small things.

Your launch date, your kid's name. Whatever it may be. 
If they remember the little details, keep them around.

🏆 They respect your boundaries.

They don't push when you say no.
They get that your time and energy aren't unlimited.

🏆 You feel energized after talking to them.

If someone constantly leaves you drained, 
That's your sign to pull back.

🏆 They listen without getting defensive.

They can hear hard truths,
Without making it about their ego or shutting you down.

🏆 They let you be yourself.

No mask or performance.
You can be honest without worrying about judgment.

🏆 They make you feel safe.

You can admit when you screwed up, ask them obvious questions, 
And take risks without worrying if they will judge.

🏆 You don't have to watch every word.

Real trust means being honest.
No walking on eggshells or second-guessing what you just said.

🏆 They support your goals.

They care more about where you're going, 
Than keeping you around for their own benefit.

Knowing a lot of people means nothing.

Having the right people close is what changes your career.

And it's the people who show these green flags that will do that.

✅ They'll open doors.
✅ They'll create opportunities that last.
✅ They'll prove that good relationships are better than a big contact list.

One green flag relationship beats a hundred forgettable ones.

You network when you're desperate.

Then wonder why you're getting ignored...

Okay, so that might NOT be you.
(But it IS a lot of you.)

Only reaching out when you need a favor.
And everyone can feel it.

Networking doesn’t fail because people are bad at talking.

It fails because they wait too long and then start when they're desperate. 

(And trust me, your network can smell that from a mile away 😂)

Strategic business people play a different game.

- They build relationships before they need them.
- They stay visible without being annoying.
- They lead with value instead of asking.

That’s how doors open without forcing them.

This is the exact behavior gap I see between people who “network”...

And people who actually get opportunities.

Once you spot this gap, you can’t unsee it:

1️⃣ Lead with value

Share insights before requesting anything.
“Here’s what I learned about X” beats “Can I pick your brain?”

2️⃣ Follow up fast

Reply within 48 hours and reference something specific.
This tells people you were actually paying attention.

3️⃣ Make intros without being asked

Connect people who should know each other.
Do this consistently, and you'll be the first to know when an opportunity shows up.

4️⃣ Ask better questions

Skip the surface-level stuff.
Ask questions that show you understand the game they’re playing.

5️⃣ Show up between asks

Comment on posts. Share their wins. Stay visible when you don’t need anything.
People remember who was there before the favor.

6️⃣ Track who responds

Not everyone in your contact list is in your network.
Focus your energy on two-way relationships.

7️⃣ Open with gratitude

One of the easiest ways to show respect.
A simple “Appreciate you taking the time” goes further than listing credentials no one asked for.

8️⃣ Be specific about help

Don’t say “Let me know if I can help.” 
Say “I can intro you to X” or “I know someone at Y.”
Clear offers get remembered.

9️⃣ Be consistent

You don’t build trust by popping up once and vanishing.
Show up regularly. Comment. Post. Stay visible.

🔟 End with next steps

“I’ll send that article Friday” beats “Let’s stay in touch.”
Clear next steps keep things moving forward.

These aren’t hacks.
They’re habits.

And they’re the difference between looking desperate and being respected.

If networking has ever felt forced or fake, 
It's probably because you were taught the wrong behaviors.

Build relationships first.
Opportunities come later.

If cold DMs were the secret to great networking...

We’d all be famous by now.

Networking isn’t about cold DMs anymore.

And if you’re still treating it that way.

You’re making this way a hell of a lot harder than it needs to be.

The people with strong networks aren’t doing more outreach.
They’re doing networking differently.

Because anyone can send a cold DM and make it 'personalized'.

But in 2026, the best networkers are building context before they ever hit send.

This is the exact system I’ve used to build a network that opens doors without chasing people in my inbox:

1️⃣ Decide what you want to be known for

Most people network without context.

So when they reach out, the other person has no idea why they’re here,
Or what the conversation is even about.

Your network will label you whether you choose or not.
So choose.

➡️ Pick a small set of problems you care about.
➡️ Show up around those consistently.
➡️ Say the same smart things in different ways.

When people already know how to place you, conversations flow more easily.

2️⃣ Borrow rooms before you try to build your own

Early on in the networking game, volume doesn’t matter.
Placement does.

➡️ Show up where impactful conversations are already happening.
➡️ Add a point people didn’t think of.
➡️ Ask questions that change how people see the topic.

Do this long enough, and people start recognizing you without you trying.

3️⃣ Signal your lane early

Most people wait until a DM to explain who they are.
That’s backwards.

Make it obvious upfront:

➡️ What you work on.
➡️ How you think.
➡️ What you think most people are getting wrong.

So when you finally reach out, it doesn’t feel out of the blue.

Strong networking happens when people know who you are before you introduce yourself.

Because cold outreach, whether you like it or not, will never work.

So build a networking strategy that makes outreach optional, not necessary.

Show what they’ll miss by using real urgency.
Fear of loss beats excitement every time.

3️⃣ Social Proof

People trust decisions that others have already made.
So use testimonials, stats, and real results.
If others believe, it feels safer to follow.

4️⃣ Scarcity

Limited things feel more valuable.
Like tight deadlines, people can actually miss.
Real urgency = faster decisions.

5️⃣ Anchoring

The first number people see sets the bar.
Show the premium option first.
That way, everything else feels cheaper by comparison.

6️⃣ Exposure 

People buy from what feels familiar.
Show up consistently in the same places.
If they’ve seen you before, they’re more open to buying.

7️⃣ Authority Bias

People listen to those who’ve proven they know what they’re doing.
Show the numbers and teach publicly. That's how you stay visible.
When people trust you, they decide faster.

8️⃣ Goal Gradient

People move faster when progress is obvious.
Break big actions into steps they can see themselves completing.
That's what keeps people moving.

9️⃣ Commitment Principle

Small yeses lead to bigger yeses.
So start with the easy ones before asking for big ones.
Each step makes the next one easier.

None of this is theory.

This is how buying decisions actually happen.

Save this.
Test one principle this week.
And watch what changes.
