Hello! 👋 Are you here because you saw one of my videos on LinkedIn? 🤔

I’ve been called “funny” my whole life, which I’ve never taken as an insult. Funnily enough.

I’m Tom Boston and making people smile makes me smile. It always has.

When I started working in B2B sales in 2016, it felt like there wasn’t a place for my humour.

My job wasn’t to make people smile, after all. Right?

I stopped trying to make people laugh and started to try make people buy.

Guess what? That didn’t work at all. 🫠

I wasn’t a very good salesperson.

It took me three years (and three more roles) before I realised something that changed the trajectory of my career:

Being "good" and being "true to yourself" are one and the same.

In 2019, I went all in on authentic selling.

I started having fun.
I started actually being myself.
I started making LinkedIn videos.

Before I knew it, I wasn’t just in sales – I was winning at sales. 

Becoming one of the top SDRs in the country and recognised as one of the top sales influencers in EMEA.

I started coaching other sellers, on how they could leverage social media to build their personal brand and do the same.

To build an audience. To have a voice on this platform.

In my 8 years working in B2B sales, I’ve learnt a lot.

Here’s what I know to be true:

- A strong personal brand is a non-negotiable in 2025
- Being yourself is the answer to success in sales
- Coaching is the quickest route to growth
- Sales CAN be fun (but really though)

My name is Tom Boston. 👋 (Or Larry, or Barry. Depending what mood I’m in.)

I’m on mission is to make sales fun.

In my humble opinion: Sales is ONLY fun when you hit target.

So a year ago I joined a company that supports sales teams to do EXACTLY that.

How? 👉 Measurable growth through 1:1 coaching.

But there’s something missing.

Two words. WhatsApp prospecting. 📱

Because why not use the world's number one messaging app as part of your GTM strategy?

My take: If my plumber can DM me on WhatsApp, why can’t I use it for prospecting?!

That 98% open rate has got my head turning for sure. 🙂‍↔️

I get it, the worry is that salespeople just start spamming on WhatsApp...

But like any outbound activity, it’s got to be:

- Well-timed 
- Value-led 
- Relevant
- Well-researched

I believe WhatsApp prospecting is one of the future trends of B2B sales.

B2B is changing, genuine human interaction is winning.

(Side note: The folks who have been building a strong personal brand are going to have some some extra UMPH in their outreach for sure!) 👊

A guide to screwing up your first month as a sales leader:

- Start every sentence with “Well, at my last company…”
- Don't learn anyone's name and just use "buddy"
- Schedule a recurring meeting at 4:30pm on Fridays
- Introduce a "better" commission plan which is, shock, worse
- Tell your career story that nobody cares about
- Show everyone a picture of your dog that nobody cares about
- Claim that you know which biscuit is 'best' (I've seen this descend into chaos)
- Say something groundbreaking like "AI won’t replace salespeople. But salespeople with AI will replace salespeople without it."

What’s the difference between an overpacked suitcase and a marketing qualified lead?

One of them is extremely difficult to close.

The other is a suitcase.

I was given some sales advice in 2019.

It sounds depressing, but it’s actually awesome.

Nobody has budget.

(Even the ones that tell you that they do!)

On first hearing that, I was “Well, what’s the point then?” (Waaawaaa poor little salesperson.)

BUT… I promise you, it’s a super freeing mindset. 

It helps you focus instead on HEPLING the prospect. (Spoiler: This is how you win)

Don’t stress yourself out worrying if your solution is too expensive, or if the deal will close.

The mindset should be: “How can I provide so much support that I still close this deal?”

Budgets can be cut, lost, scrapped, halved, disappear or never even exist in the first place.

But seeking to support. Seeking to serve.

In sales, that stuff lasts forever. 💪
