I used to be an airline pilot. I loved the flying but found it was more fun as a hobby than a profession. So I got a desk job and eventually found myself managing the training department of an airline. I realized learning and development was where my heart lay. My superpower is helping professionals (primarily in the STEM industries) to grow their careers and influence by bridging the gap between their technical expertise and their ability to relate and communicate interpersonally (some might call these soft skills). I accomplish this with three primary skillsets: I create awesome training programs by - conducting needs analyses to identify gaps and opportunities. - fostering relationships with key stakeholders to gain insight, build rapport, and promote buy-in. - identifying ways to continuously improve learning programs and tie them to the company’s strategic goals. I provide engaging and relatable facilitation and executive coaching by - adapting the lesson, examples, and application to fit the group culture and organizational norms. - incorporating relevant activities and exercises for participants to apply what they are learning. - conveying complex information and concepts in relatable and approachable formats (I'm particularly skilled at this). Leverage 10 years of people leadership and program management experience to - evaluate vendors to make build/buy decisions that maximize ROI and maximize subject matter expertise - manage multiple training projects concurrently, ensuring timely completion and high-quality deliverables - measure and report the effectiveness of learning solutions to stakeholders and executive leadership I like learning and development so much I earned my doctor of philosophy in human resource development. My dissertation investigated the impact of talent development practices on work effort and was awarded Dissertation of the Year by the Association for Talent Development.
