I hate this dark side of personal branding. No one talks about it, but I will... You've been sold a lie... You're told personal branding is about visibility. That if people 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 you, you’ve won. Sounds simple, right? But then… why do some people struggle despite having thousands of followers? Why do some names dominate industries while others disappear? Because branding isn’t built on 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. It’s built on 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 and 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨. Let me explain. If someone you’ve never met knows how good you are— that’s personal branding. But somewhere along the way, things got twisted and distorted- =>cPeople started treating it like a shortcut. => A magic trick to generate leads overnight. => A hack to go viral and get famous instantly. And that’s where the problem began. Branding is not what you say about yourself. It’s what others say about you. Think about it. If you tell everyone "𝘐’𝘮 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬," that’s marketing. If you shout "𝘐’𝘮 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬, 𝘐’𝘮 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬, 𝘐’𝘮 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬," that’s advertising. But if someone you don't know says to their friends, "𝘏𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬, 𝘭𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘩𝘪𝘮." That’s right there, is branding. And here’s the part no one tells you— Your personal brand isn’t built on 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 you do. It’s built on: 🔹 The 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 you share. 🔹 The 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 you’ve overcome. 🔹 The 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘧𝘴 that drive you. It’s not just about your expertise. It’s about 𝘸𝘩𝘺 you do what you do. That’s why when people think of "coaching," they think of Tony Robbins. That’s why some actors become legends while others—despite the same number of hit films—fade away. Personal branding isn’t a moment shared in one post. It’s an ongoing 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶. And just like investing, it doesn’t pay off overnight. But the 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵? Life-changing. So the question isn’t how fast you can build a brand. It’s how strong you want it to be. Your move. What’s that one fear that's holding you back from building your personal brand? 👇
There’s too much noise on LinkedIn. So much advice on what not to do… that it can feel paralyzing. I’ve been freelancing for 3.5 years, and I have a lot of stories to share— My literal rags-to-riches story. My stories about how I built the life I could only dream of How I took success for granted and watched my business crumble. My stories of major failures both in business and client stories My experiences of bringing my clients shocking results And how hard it gets sometimes to get going I want to share what I know, have learnt and experienced here. But on LinkedIn, everyone has an opinion on everything. And they all contradict each other. Some say, “Don’t post pictures.” Others say, “Post pictures if it works.” Some say, “Don’t share sob stories. Don’t be vulnerable.” Others say, “If you can’t be vulnerable, what’s the point?” Some say, “Engagement doesn’t matter.” Others say, “You can’t grow without engagement.” Worse, I’ve seen creators indirectly calling out others, judging the quality of their work based on how they write on LinkedIn. And honestly? In the middle of all these mixed opinions, you lose your voice. You lose the courage to figure out what actually works for you. I, too, started feeling like an amateur—a new student in a class full of toppers who seemed to know everything. So, instead of experimenting, I started pretending I knew what worked—just like everyone else. I wanted to fit in too. And in the process, I lost my ability to judge what actually works. I know I’m not alone in this. You want to share your thoughts on LinkedIn. You want to talk about how rejection felt, but how you kept going. You want to promote your services. You want to share your wins, your lessons. But when you sit down to write, your mind goes blank. You don’t want to look stupid. So you search for famous templates, viral hooks—anything that makes you feel like you belong. You try to fit yourself into a box instead of exploring what actually works for you. I’m not saying to ignore structure or best practices. I’m not saying to post chunky paragraphs filled with ChatGPT-generated jargon like “unleash” or “unlock”. What I am saying is—many people are so scared of creating with whatever little knowledge they have that they don’t create at all. And the truth is, even though it seems like everyone knows what they’re talking about… they don’t. What they know is based on their experience. What they claim works is what worked for them. And that doesn’t guarantee it’ll work for you. So, study formats. Learn from others. Analyze what might go viral. But at the end of the day, nothing will work unless you experiment and figure out what clicks for you. Because you have a different story to tell. And a different goal to achieve.
