I was late to my 10th grade physics class because I was being chased by a polar bear. Neither my parents or my Physics teacher believed me and thought I wouldn’t take life seriously. I got kicked out of University because I thought the conversations in the hallway were more interesting than class. I started my first real business when I was 22. It was easy, I was an introvert and I had to sell life insurance. Thank God for mentors who made me listen to audiobooks instead of music, I put 160Km on a brand new G37 coupe getting a real education. I’ve sold squishees like Apu at a convenience store, credit card applications at Zellers, Jewelry at a Gold Shop, houses for a developer, SaaS in every form possible. I’ve crashed and burned twice as a founder and had 2 successful exits. In 2011 I met Donna Messer (RIP) and she made me understand the power of networking after numerous breakfasts at Cora’s. It’s not who you know, it’s who they know. They say I’m the best face to face closer you will ever meet. I say, I just realized we have 2 ears and 1 mouth - so I listen twice as much as I talk. They say if you want to open a new market call Yousuf - I’ve been dropped into multiple cities and countries around the world and networked myself to Central Banks (remittance business and e-wallets), and the biggest magnates in industry. I love to learn new things - as long as they are interesting to me. I think one of the most important skills to have is to find out how you learn. Everyone learns differently- and if you can find out your way - you are unstoppable. I spend most of my time in Romania and No - I don’t know Tate. In 2017 - I got on a plane back to Canada and set an intention to start a new business. I cold emailed a bunch of people and ended up meeting my cofounder/1st investor.
