I was late to my 10th-grade physics class because I was being chased by a polar bear. Neither my parents nor my physics teacher believed me. They thought I wouldn’t take life seriously. I got kicked out of university because I found the conversations in the hallway far more interesting than the ones in class. I started my first real business at 22. Simple enough—I was an introvert who had to sell life insurance. Thank God for mentors who forced me to listen to audiobooks instead of music. I put 160,000 km on a brand-new G37 coupe getting a real education. I’ve sold squishees like Apu at a convenience store, credit card applications at Zellers, jewelry at a gold shop, houses for a developer, and SaaS in every form possible. I’ve crashed and burned twice as a founder and had two successful exits. In 2011, I met Donna Messer (RIP), and after numerous breakfasts at Cora’s, she made me understand the power of networking: It’s not who you know—it’s who they know. Since then, I’ve been dropped into multiple cities and countries, networking my way to Central Banks (remittance & e-wallets), industry magnates, and new markets around the world. They say I’m the best face-to-face closer you’ll ever meet. I say I just realized we have two ears and one mouth—so I listen twice as much as I talk.
