A huge number of companies are working on AI products, or are using AI products. While in most cases what is termed artificial intelligence, is nothing else than good old-fashioned #machinelearning, it is clear that some of the things we are witnessing start reminiscing of real intelligence.

Valid point. We already have excellent techniques for time series forecasting. Using an LLM for traditional time series models (e.g. retail) seems overkill most of the time.

🚨 I Called It.Time Series LLMs Are a Joke.🚨  

For a long time, I’ve been saying it — Time Series LLMs are useless.

And now, as the hype machine pushes them into the mainstream, the cracks are finally showing.

The paper “Performance of Zero-Shot Time Series Foundation Models on Cloud Data" confirms what many of us skeptics knew all along — these models can’t forecast their way out of a paper bag.

Zero-shot performance? 

Laughable.Most of these so-called "foundation models" perform worse than basic linear models, sometimes producing forecasts that might as well have been made by a random number generator.  

We’ve been sold a dream: "General-purpose LLMs will revolutionize time series forecasting!" 

Well, the emperor has no clothes.

The fact that most models fall apart in real-world, complex scenarios like cloud data forecasting speaks volumes.

It’s time the AI community stops blindly worshipping at the altar of "foundation models" and starts demanding real, domain-specific performance.

Hype is great for headlines — not for building systems that actually work.

Five things I’d do differently if I had to start over in data science:

🧠 Master the Fundamentals
I’d dedicate more time to fully grasp statistics, SQL, Python, and core ML algorithms. Strong logical thinking and problem-solving should come before tackling complex methods.

💼 Prioritize Business Value
I would focus on defining problems clearly and linking insights to real-world impact. Sometimes, working backward from the “why” yields the most practical solutions.

🔧 Develop Engineering Skills
Clean coding, CI/CD, version control, and building data pipelines are non-negotiable. A solid foundation in software engineering makes a huge difference.

🎯 Set Learning Milestones
This field evolves rapidly. Consistently updating your goals and embracing continuous education is key to staying ahead.

🤝 Network & Seek Mentors
Building connections early can fast-track growth. I’d find mentors and peers who can share insights and help navigate new opportunities.

Ultimately, data science isn’t just about the tools—it’s about creating impact, telling compelling stories with data, and never stopping your learning journey.

I've been playing around with #grok3 and going through comments posted by others.

Something impressive is that Grok-3 is the first model to score over 1400 on Chatbot Arena. It outperforms the best both OpenAI and Google's models, even though to be frank, Gemini's been a huge disappointment, so Google's definitely losing the race.

The #AI race is heating up, and OpenAI's competitive edge is shrinking by the day.

Rumors of the LLM scaling laws’ demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Meta introduced its latest Llama-3.3-70B-Instruct model—showing that while some may be hitting a wall, Meta hasn’t. 😉

Why it matters:

At roughly 1/5 the size of Llama 3.1-405B, Llama-3.3-70B still matches it in overall quality.

In many critical tasks (instruction following, coding, math, etc.), it substantially outperforms the larger model.

It’s both more affordable and faster to run, making it a solid fit for most workloads.

The maturity of your technology adoption will determine whether your company leads the industry or fades away.

To stay relevant in today’s competitive market, companies must continuously evaluate their digital maturity and readiness to adopt new technologies.

Leaders who guide their organizations through this process will create agile, future-ready enterprises.
