👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Personalization at Scale: - Agencies can produce and potentially utilize hundreds of thousands of different pieces of content during a campaign.

🎬 Impact on Media Planning and Buying: - AI is transforming media planning. This shift is expected to challenge traditional agency roles and revenue streams.

📈 Increased Efficiency: - AI technologies are driving significant cost reductions and efficiency improvements. 

🧠 Democratization of Knowledge: - AI facilitates greater access to information and collaborative opportunities among agency personnel. This democratization could create new opportunities (and potentially more jobs) within agencies.

The latest release out of Microsoft has caused quite a stir.

It looks super real;


🖼️ It takes a single portrait photo.

🗣️ speech audio 

🎬 and produces a hyper-realistic talking face video with precise lip-audio sync, 

along with 

😉 lifelike facial behaviour and naturalistic head movements generated in real-time.


The reaction has been somewhat mixed.

A lot focussing on the nefarious use case

I just see a huge opportunity,

and was reminded of this quote from Steve Jobs

I feel twinges of sadness.

as these new models are released.

but in much larger volumes is my sense of excitement.

once upon a time, filmmaking was a pursuit of the few

💵 cameras were expensive
💵 film was expensive
💵 editing.... etc etc

Then 

🟣 cost of hardware dropped or disappeared
🟣 cost of editing tools plummeted
🟣 distribution costs went to zero

and now we are putting even more power in the hands of creators

A few days back "China" just announced their rival to OpenAI’s Sora:"Vidu"

Once more, this looks pretty darn cool.

I visited the London Science Museum this weekend.

You can't help but be captivated by the seismic shifts caused by past technologies. 

But also how relevant 


Consider the switchboard operators, 

When you watch this back you see how

a group of predominantly women, 

found themselves jobless 

practically overnight. 


That must have been scary, right?


Today, similar concerns are surfacing about AI 

and its impact on knowledge workers. 


Despite the apprehensions, 

history shows that humans excel at adapting and uncovering new ways to thrive. 

It's a cycle of innovation and resilience.

AI agents are going to be a big deal.

But with their power comes a whole bundle of ethical questions to consider

Iason Gabriel & Arianna Manzini, PhD (Oxon) of Deepmind, recently wrote a paper on "The ethics of advanced AI assistants."

😮 It's fascinating. 

📚 It's chunky.

But here are a few of my thoughts that marketers and business leaders might start considering


🟪 AI assistants bring issues of equity, access, and the potential for misuse, requiring marketers to consider ethical implications in their strategies. 

🟪 Traditional metrics may not fully capture the impact of AI assistants. Marketers should consider new methodologies that better assess the effectiveness of AI tools.

🟪 As AI technology evolves, so too will regulations and norms. Marketers will need to stay on top.

🟪 While personalization is a major strength of AI, there's a risk of creating dependencies that could backfire, such as customers feeling manipulated.

🟪 AI could change traditional competitive dynamics by making it easier to identify synergies and cooperate on shared goals, even among market competitors. 

🟪 Marketers should prepare for how AI assistants could fundamentally alter consumer behaviour and expectations over the long term, not just in direct interactions but in broader lifestyle changes.

Am I missing something here?

There is no getting away from how amazing this is,

and how good it is going to get

(HeyGen conintue to impress)

BUT

Isn't the point of UGC that it's User-generated??

👉 Marketers use UGC as social proof.
So if the U has a following or authority, it can pass to the product.
Clearly (for now) AI avatars do not.

👉 Or do we just react well to ads that look like UGC?
(Regardless of authority)
In which case, with AI "UGC", we'll be overwhelmed with them.
Which will devalue them and likely push us back to real UGC.
