This role gave me the opportunity to provide a magical first experience for new Aulani Cast Members who have been hired to work at Aulani a Disney Resort & Spa.

Throughout this 8 hour orientation class I partnered up with a co-facilitator & we took Cast Members through a journey of the companies past, present and future.

I provided Disney Basics, coaching & feedback to new cast members preparing them for success for the rest of their time with the company.

Traditions Assistant

-Responsible for leading programs and events specially created for guests at Aulani A Disney Resort and Spa. Roles range from on stage performances to one on one tours.
-Retaining information from scripted materials and presenting and performing them in front of both large and small groups.  
-Assist in set up and strike of events and programs.

-Supervised over 35 photographers simultaneously while they performed different roles (including but not limited to); quality assurance, photo sales, character photography, icon photography, event photography, aqua photography, portrait photography and photo tours while ensuring the best in guest service to every guest.

-Uphold all Disney Service Basics, policies and procedures.

-Responsible for the management of day-to-day operations.

-In charge of the initial and continual training of all photographers.

-Provided feedback, coaching and development for photographers.

-Reported to and communicated with managers, directors and executives.

-Corresponding in person, by phone and via email with resort partners to execute daily operations and special events.

-Assist future guests over the phone in regards to the services of the business.

-Calendar Management of our portrait session and photo tour sessions.

But I didn’t always know or act like it.

And the world generally still receives and treats me like a woman.

I generally prefer relationships with women.

So - being very personally invested/connected to this topic… 

I felt so fortunate to be in this to hear the discussion between 💓 Erin Gallagher and 💓 Stacy London which highlighted the URGENT need to dismantle systems that continue to exclude and marginalize women. 

Period.
Duh.

I think it’s pretty obvs that existing structures aren't designed to support women, let alone those who identify outside the gender binary.

Non-binary or not I’m still gonna get hotflashes one day (not the fun kind from a photo shoot) and I still don’t know wtf to do about that… or the accompanying um… other stuff?

Menopause is like… a legit real thing. 
The longer I live the more it weighs on my mind.

Why is there not more education / support around this? 

You already know.

Erin and Stacy put an emphasis on access rather than ability which really resonated with me.

It's not about women lacking the skills or ambition to lead; it's about systemic barriers that prevent them from accessing positions of power.

Okay… so what are we gonna do about it?
Firstly - talk about it more.

I look forward to continuing to capture conversations like this. 

Because it goes beyond content for today. 

It’s documenting the way for the leaders of tomorrow.

It's a part of my job requirements to stay ahead of the latest trends.
What better way to do that than to network with industry leaders?

When planning to attend any conference, I have clear objectives:

And most importantly to be seen.
And I don't mean be the closing keynote (although that would be cool).
I mean be seen by the 17 year old voulenteer who doesn't believe I'm a speaker.

Cause she hasn't checked anyone in like me all day. 
What makes this mean the most? 
She kind of looks a lil like me. 

I'm always trying to bring the most value from my attendance of an event cause TBH I'd usually rather be off on an island somewhere but alas - the mission is to change the world and I love infusing that JFS Energy into the rooms where it happens. 

The answer btw... is SXSW & Vidcon. 
I've been a Speaker/Artist at both.

But WHERE should I go next?

How To Become A Speaker At South By South West:

But the first step for me... was realizing this:
Turning down a stage is turning away from my mission.

I'd buy a Platinum Badge right now. Before even applying. Why:

There's a "Limited Presale" happening at the moment.
Right now you can get the 2025 Platinum (all access) Badge for $1365.00

The next conference is March 7-15, 2025.
By that time it'll be closer to 2K per badge.

Why get one now?
ESPECIALLY if you're planning on being a speaker and getting one for free?

Well... if you buy a badge and become a speaker you can either defer your badge for the following year OR gift it to another human for F-R-E-E.

And if/when I go next year, I'll be bringing MORE of my team. Not less. 
And we're def gonna be leveraging the badges more so... there's that.

So don't think of short form as candy and your long form as the good stuff.

When I think of content creator + entrepreneur I think of Vanessa Lau.

For years she has been teaching creators, thought leaders, and online entrepreneurs how to grow on social media and make more of that cold hard internet cash. 

She is a multi-millionaire. 
And she did it in years. 
Not decades.

I've been watching a lot of Vanessa Lau's "come back" recently and phew...
Lemme tell you - I feel this recent video most of all. 

Pivoting does suck. 
Pivoting in public sucks more. 
Pivoting in public and failing sucks the most.

But in comparison to every-thing-else-going-on in the world...

After coming back from SXSW I started creating content again (primarily on IG) like how I "thought I was supposed to" and it was #NotTheVibe

I really appreciate how open and vulnerable Vanessa was in her latest video. 
Even more than her original come back one. 

I'm inspired by her genuine authenticity partnered with her discipline in continuing on in spite of not having clarity in her direction. 

One of the main topics in this recent video was on trust. 
And how she's lost the ability to trust herself. 

Is she, "doing it right"? 
Well that's a tricky thing to ask. 

We're still in the infancy of social media in the digital space. 

There's no precedent for how to go viral, build and empire, burnout and comeback. 

I know that my, "come back" was def not the way I thought it would be. 
I came to LinkedIn to practice my writing after all... accidentally wound up at SXSW... life is weird. 

My only expectations for myself is to keep moving forward. 
And keep telling stories. 
My own included.

They didn't pick the panel. But they offered us a savings of $100 for a badge and hoped we'd still attend... I was bummed. But 4600 entries is A LOT. Guess we just didn't fit the track.  

Or... did we? 
Cause the very next day...

WTF... 
Did that actually happen? 
Yup. It did. Idk how. I didn't ask. 

I just said yes.

From here I'm just gonna have to give you a part 2. 
But the long and the short of it is we ALL said yes. 
Did we ALL make it... no. Well, not exactly. 

But we'll get into that later. 

What we're getting into now is this: 
there is no "right" way to become a speaker at SXSW.

Yes there is a process but mine was anything from "normal".

Short-form content simply has a higher chance of being able to capture attention in a more effective way in today's fast-paced digital environment. 

(LinkedIn excluded... I know this is ironic writing this here but yall know other platforms exist right? There's a reason this post is text + a GIF... IJS...)

People are more likely to watch and engage with shorter videos, leading to higher viewer retention and interactions for Y-O-U. 

It's a long game. Yes.

But if you can get someone to watch you for 30 seconds...
Then you can get them to watch you for 60 seconds... 

Then all of a sudden... AWWWW SNAP! 
They clicked that link in bio and now they're on your Youtube. 

Watching your 4 minute video. 
Which is a segment from your 20 minute video. 

Which is the video element of your podcast. 
Which they love watching. 

But have to drive one day to pick up their snotty nosed... I mean... miracle baby from school - so they find you on Spotify.

And THAT'S where they FINALLY take a look at your description and see oh daaaaymmmm... that's actually your BUSINESS logo in the background of your videos. 

If you have a product, they buying. 
If you have a service, they lining up. 
If you have a system set up, they're in. For life.

That buyer switch cost is gonna be expensive. IJS.
If you have one trending viral video that goes to no where... 

What's the point?
Ya dig?

Evergreen > Trending

When I came OUT of "retirement" and straight into documenting (3) panels, (1) party oh - speaking on one of these panels. Producing with a team, steady staying ready for the Q&A's, Impromptu Freestyle Sessions + 24/7 content creation.
