I think the reason is vigorous exerciseโ especially endurance sports such as cycling and climbing mountains OUTDOORS. The rolling hills that we ride are Mother Natureโs way of HIIT. Ups, down, up down. On top of that, we killed two birds with one stone because we exercise outdoors. As we all know, nature therapy is the real deal. The easiest way to get rid of anxiety + depression: EXERCISE. Why? It builds confidence, which helps to get out of negative feedback loops. We're all going to experience anxiety because it's a signal your body is telling you that something in your life needs to change ASAP. I see business owners gain weight and neglect their own care. It makes me sad. Does this trigger you? Good! New to exercise? I've been in the fitness game for over a decade and haven't fallen off the bandwagon, and don't plan to, because I CHOOSE to be healthy for the rest of my life. It's a CHOICE. ๐ 1. START SMALL. Even a 10-20 min walk around the block after dinner will get those habits going. Bonus: it will bring your blood sugar down by about 10pts! Metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance are the biggest threats to our society and the reason why so many have passed from the big C. ๐ 2. LIFT HEAVY. No ladies, lifting won't make you bulkyโ it's your diet that's making you "bulky" by creating a layer of fat above your muscles. The more lean muscle you have, the faster your metabolism will beโ AND the longer you will live. Muscle mass is correlated to longevity. ๐ช๐ผ ๐ 3. CARDIO is good for your heart. Endurance sports performed outdoors are also the best way to build grit + resilience. I know this because I've spent the last decade around athletes. Their outlook on life and the way they deal with life's problems are vastly different from non-exercisers. ๐ 4. GET OUTSIDE. Why not kill two birds with one stone? I had an advantage in life even though I grew up with poor immigrant parents. I remember giant โpresentsโ under our Christmas trees every yearโฆ but they were always empty. My dad decorated for every occasion to keep the spirit alive, but we knew we should never expect anything materialistic. Despite that, it's become blatantly obvious to me that one of my biggest advantages was that my dad was a triathlete (heโs 68 now and still going!). Of course, I know many don't have the privilege of being in this situation, but if you have kids, do them a favour and give them a head start. ๐๐ผ They subconsciously absorb EVERYTHING in their environment, including everything you do, act, and say, including the tiniest gestures. They may not start their fitness journey until their 20s, but you are planting seeds. โ We are the chain-breaking generation. We have the world at our fingertips. I may have had a good upbringing (in this sense), but that doesn't come with other traumas. What happened to us was not our fault but our responsibility. Experts and scientists love to argue, but they all agree: exercise is one of the best things you can do for longevity and well-being. Why? When you lose your ability to move, you will begin to die. The uncomfortable truth is that many of us are already dying a slow, mundane death. Start with a walk. The problem is that we're conditioned to think we must go to the gym for a couple of hours or run a 10k to get fit. No, you don't. Start with a walk, play with your kids, garden, dance, Just fucking move. This is why I advocate so strongly for fitness and movement. I've SEEN IT in my fit friends versus the ones who don't exercise. The way they think, work, take on challenges, absorb new perspectives. It's one of the most uncomfortable truths. Triggered? But guess what? Chasing your triggers is the fastest way to level up. โโโ PS. My content is written to trigger you. To break societal norms. This is the only way to undo your programming since birth. You know what infuriates me? โExpertsโ forget to remind you that we live in a toxic soup of chemicals and that there is not ONE thing that will kill us but MANY. For example, fluoride. Conventional wisdom tells us fluoride isnโt dangerous, but outliers will tell you it has long-term detrimental effects, such as lowering IQ in children. Or the chemist influencer who tells you chemicals in skincare + makeup are safe, but sheโs on a high-carb, ultra-processed food diet? What about overweight health ministers in charge of creating guidelines for your countryโs health? Or influencers sponsored by Big Food + Pharma to subtly market junk food in the guise of moderation or in defence of fat-shaming? So, who is correct? After over a decade of taking #ExtremeOwnership of MY health, I rarely listen to conventional wisdom. I know better. Conventional wisdom tells you that fluoride is not dangerous because it is in tiny quantities in tap water, toothpaste, mouthwash, and food. Hereโs the reality: we live in a toxic SOUP of chemicals, so it's not just fluoride but: โ Cleaning products. โ Non-stick cookware. โ Ultra-processed foods. โ BPA and BPS in receipts. โ Microplastic in your clothes. โ Scented perfumes and candles. โ Air fresheners and fabric softeners. โ Makeup and personal care products. โ Pesticides and herbicides on produce. โ Flame retardants in your mattress and appliances. โ Heavy metals in seafood, supplements and everything you can think of. โ Stress from the news and arguing with people on the internet. Resulting in: โ Cancer โ Infertility โ Neurotoxicity โ Digestive issues โ Respiratory issues โ Learning disabilities โ Hormone disruption โ Allergies and irritation โ Hyperactivity in children โ Developmental problems โ Decrease of IQ in offspring โฆ the list goes on. Does this not ring a bell?! Who are the experts? Who should we listen to? In a world of information overload, we must do OUR part to ask questions and sift through the noiseโ instead of blindly trusting experts or following the status quo. I can help. But first, a tip: You canโt avoid everythingโbut you can CHOOSE your poison. โ Know what your values are. Eg: I get my hair and nails done knowing the chemicals are toxic but I exercise + eat well 90% of the time. My home is as clean as possible (nontoxic cleaning supplies and cookware, zero plastic, clean makeup and skincare, etc). โ Open your windows at home, even in the winter. Your home has toxic scents such as household cleaners, detergents, candles, and perfumes. โ Spend as much time outdoors as possible, even overcast or cold. Mother Nature heals. โ Surround yourself with health-conscious people. You will be the average of your environment. CHOOSE YOUR POISON. ;) Donโt be scared. Do more good than bad. Your resilient body has its way of balancing things out. Apply the 80/20 rule: as long as 80% of your habits and environment are dialled in, donโt worry about the 20%.
Just a few friendly unsolicited reminders heading into the weekend: ๐ It's OK if not everybody agrees with everything you say. If they do, you're probably pretty average (aka boring). ๐ค There are 8+ billion people in the world. It's not your job to make everyone like you. Protect your energy because you only have so much to give. ๐ if you are a creator, youโre going to have haters. They're simply projecting their insecurities onto you because our brains' only job is to keep us alive and protect us from danger, including the danger of being exposed to negative feelings when we realize somebody has something we want that we don't have. Look up: "projection" in psychology. Remember that girl who tried to play victim and published that Andrew Huberman piece but instead made him even more famous? Good or bad, ALL attention is good. Thank them for boosting you and spending that precious time theyโll never get backโฆ on you! You should be flattered because you triggered themโ hopefully planting a seed. They may thank you later (like a bunch of my followers who hated me for my brash opinions in the beginning). ๐ A โtriggerโ is a sign in your life that something needs to change; otherwise, you wonโt be triggered. Chase them to level up quickly. ๐ If selfies and pineapples on pizza bug youโฆ. you probably have deeper issues to look at. Just saying. Faces are scroll-stoppers because weโre unconsciously attracted to them (an evolutionary survival mechanism) โฆ and smart peeps use them to their advantage in our attention economy. Don't judge others who have the courage to put themselves out thereโฆmost likely because many people fear stepping into their own light. But we encourage you to do so. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. ๐ซถ๐ผ Life begins when you stop caring what others think of you. ๐ Thereโs more to life than LinkedIn. Don't feel bad because some people are on social media 24/7. I know Iโll NEVER be able to keep up with my inbox, connection requests, and even reply to all comments. The paradox of influence. Aim for progress, not perfection. Not all of us have time, especially ladies with children and other priorities like living IRL. Don't get discouraged. If you do, use this mantra: โeliminate distractions and stay in your lane.โ Mantras can be used as โtriggersโ to help your brain switch emotional states or perform an action. How I Healed From Chronic Pain & Trauma ๐๐ผ In the fall of 2020, my body shut down from a car accident, chronic stress, trauma from leaving a toxic relationship, burnout from launching 2 businesses at the same time, and COVID. On the outside, the more stressed I was, the harder I worked, but mentally, I was hanging by a thread. I decided to hold myself accountable and *DECIDED* I would heal myself. It was the pandemic, the world was shut down, and treatment was hard to obtain. Iโve been #biohacking for over a decade then, so I knew a thing about healing my body. โ Hereโs what I did: โ Talked to a therapist regularly. โ Walked the walk (not just talk the talk). โ Ran toward the feelings I didnโt want to feel. โ Didnโt drag a partner to project my traumas onto. โ Journaled and meditation became a regular practice. โ Removed all distractions. Did it myself so I didnโt become codependent. โ Maintained an active social life for my sanity but was strict with alcohol and vices. โ When people triggered me, I got curious and ran towards it rather than get mad or hold grudges. โ Exercised and ate nutritious foods *every day*. My routine grounds me, so I never sacrificed it. โ Channeled all my focus into my businesses and health. ๐ง Because of that, I learned how to: โ Detach from outcomes. โ Be okay with being alone. โ Switch emotional states on the fly. โ Empowered my resilience even more. โ Everything I want is literally falling into my lap. Life feels effortless when you live in alignment with your visionโ in flow. ๐ Hard Truths You Need To Hear: โ Stop talking and start doing. โ No one is coming to save you. โ Youโre not the only one suffering. โ Youโre probably too easy on yourself. โ If youโre having a hard time, itโs your fault. โ Why arenโt you taking accountability to build up your mental resilience? WE MUST STOP GLORIFYING ATHLETES WHO IGNORE THEIR NERVOUS SYSTEM FOR SHORT-TERM WINS because that grind fuels a devastating toll. Iโm fiercely vocal about womenโs health and our cycles, especially in sports and fitness. Itโs not okay to push your body to the brink during your period, pregnancy, or illness without proper rest. Itโs reckless, not heroic. Our 28-day moon cycles clash with this 24-hour hustle world. Women face higher rates of anxiety, chronic illness, and autoimmune diseasesโa staggering 75-80% of the 50 million autoimmune cases in the US are women! Because we are natural caregivers and wired to take care of everyone around us except ourselves. Ignoring our biology increases these risks when we fail to synchronize our lives with our cycles. My gut healing journey โก๏ธ The first pic was when I began losing control of my body. This was the fall of 2020 when my gut + body completely shut down. I lived in chronic pain for years, couldn't digest food, and was going blind in my right eye from a concussionโ and suffering alone b/c of covid. ๐ซ Before this, I never got bloated; you could still "see my abs" after 2 XL bowls of pho. But in this pic, although I was lean, I felt gross and not in my body due to bloating + pain that took 2+ years to go away. ๐ What I Learned: Your gut is a health barometer; an unhealthy microbiome disrupts your hormones, leaving you feeling powerless. Ladies, you know what Iโm talking about. It literally fucks with your brain and distorts your self-perception and reality. Excuse my French, but this is real talk about how bad disrupted hormones are. It wasn't the bloating but the feeling of BEING OUT OF CONTROL. My hormones were haywire, and even though I knew I was lean, my brain kept insisting, "I'm fat." PLANTS CAN LITERALLY SAVE YOU ๐๐ผ Did you know plants emit โphytoncidesโโ chemicals that boost our natural killer (NK) cells and reduce stress. Breathing them in has been linked to increased activity of natural killer (NK) cells, which are crucial for fighting off viruses and cancer cells. This immune-boosting effect lasts for several days after forest bathing. Breakthrough research has uncovered some of the ways phytoncides positively interact with our immune system on a cellular level. All infections can reduce the number of white blood cells in our bodies, either by damaging them (called cytotoxicity) or by killing them (called apoptosis). When our white blood cell count is low due to cell damage or death, our immune systems become weaker and less effective at fighting off diseases. ๐งฌ NK cells are a type of white blood cell that serves as the immune system's first defense against viral infections. Unlike other defense cells, they do not rely on "cell memory" to react. They immediately attack foreign pathogens and call for backup from other white blood cells. The second responder cells target specific pathogens once the immune system gathers more information about the attack. ๐ In order to understand the relationship between plants and our immune systems, researchers initially focused on outdoor plants. Participants spent multiple days in various forests, during which their NK cell levels were measured before, during, and after their forest experiences. The study found that the increased NK cell levels observed after three days in a forest lasted for over 30 days. ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ Previous research suggests that different forests release varying amounts of phytoncides. Pine forests release around 5 kg (11 pounds) of phytoncides per day per hectare, and juniper forests release about 30 kg (66 pounds) within the same timeframe. It took me around the world, where I: โ climbed the highest mountains โ got caught in life-or-death situations โ find myself lying in a ball on the side of the road, crying โ I felt like I was going to die from starvation or dehydration (lol) โ experienced more pain and discomfort than I thought I could handle โ crashed and still did another 120km of climbing mid-summer with blood all over โ ran out of food + water 90km from finish & separated from my group in the middle of nowhere I guess cyclists are stupid b/c WE ALWAYS COME CRAWLING BACK FOR MORE. โ Weโll ALWAYS find a way to persevere. โ Weโre ALWAYS stronger than we think. I became fearless. โโโ ๐ My unsolicited advice: PRE-CONDITION YOUR MIND FOR TOUGH TIMES by doing hard things up front. โ Ride your bike in the rain โ Do what you say youโre going to do. โ Do things, esp when you donโt want to do them. โ Cold showersโ the EASIEST way, and itโs FREE. โ Stop complaining abt the weather. Do things when it's cold & wet out. Itโs not gna kill you. โ Surround yourself with crazy people who will challenge + suffer w/ you.
I'm Chinese and I love my fatty, crispy, Chinese roast pork, but my lab work and lipid panels are "overwhelmingly optimalโ.
