Here's why it is so important to me to be of service to trainers and facilitators who want to grow their business. It's an unusual story ... In my youth I was considered to be a bit of an underachiever. Everybody thought I had great potential, so why did I do so badly in my exams? Why couldn't I get to University? Why couldn't I follow the pathway into a profession as I was expected to? The answers are surprising ... There are 2 reasons. One was my attitude. I didn’t take learning seriously. I thought that I could get by on my wits & innate abilities. I was wrong. The other reason lies in the nature of the brain. I was taught to believe, based on the science of the time, that once you hit your 20s, learning was fixed for life. Adults were incapable of learning, I was told. I believed that it would be progressively harder to learn new skills. But that didn't seem to be true. I found my interest in learning increased as I got older. Now, thanks to brain research, we know why. It's not true that adults find learning harder. All of us can continue to learn, throughout our lives. We just need the determination & motivation to do so. The more I've understood how easy it is to keep upgrading your knowledge, understanding, skills & habits, the more passionate I've become about learning. I became a lifelong learner, always asking what's new, how can I think & behave differently, what else can I learn? That's why, throughout my life, whatever my job has been, I've always gravitated towards learning & development. The key to success in every domain, it seems to me, is the ability to continue to learn & develop throughout your life. This no doubt explains why I have spent the last 26 years immersed in the world of corporate training. both as a trainer myself, & as a guide & mentor to other freelance trainers & owners of training businesses. My calling in life is to help other people to be more successful through helping them to gain new skills, new behaviours, & new ways of thinking. Today, I am thrilled to be able to to spend my time working with trainers who are serious about growing their businesses, & helping them to flourish & thrive in an overcrowded, noisy market. I also delight in partnering with people in my network to deliver the very highest quality training programs to their clients & mine. When I'm not helping other people to reach their goals, you'll find me cooking up something amazing in the kitchen, making music badly but with incredible enthusiasm, or at a gig or a festival with a bunch of mates.
