Consumers are lazier than ever.

Gone are the days when you had to cut a coupon out of newspaper and drive an hour to a convenience store to use it.

Today, you just press a button in an email, and the code will be auto-applied at checkout.

In today’s world, we expect everything to be smooth and frictionless.

As marketers, our job is to cater to those expectations.

Each unnecessary step adds friction and drops conversions.

The goal of a marketer is to assess each of these steps and ruthlessly eliminate everything that doesn’t add value.

So don’t do anything just because ”it has always been done that way”.

Ask yourself: does this provide the easiest, simplest, and most effortless experience for the customer?

If the answer is no, find out what does.

It’s easier to turn attention to money than money to attention.

In other words, it’s easier to build a business out of a personal brand than build a personal brand out of a business.

Here’s what this means from the perspective of an entrepreneur/content creator:

If you’ve already built yourself an existing audience, good for you.
↳ With a clear understanding of your audience and a proper content strategy, you’ve got your hands on a money-making asset. 

If you have a successful business but no personal brand, that’s the next lever for the business.
↳ Build an audience from scratch, just like anyone else would, and use that to drive extra growth to the business.

No matter which route you take, personal brand building always starts from the bottom.

And if you’re going to do it some day, better start now than later.

The odds of success are in your favour. But only if you understand this:

The percentage of people who accomplish what you’re trying to is extremely low.

But you know what’s even lower?

The percentage of people who REALLY want it and are prepared to work for it.

I’ve been fully confident about reaching my goals for a long time as I’ve realized this.

Anyone can come across a successful person and think:

“Wow, I want that”.

But when it comes to actually doing what is required, the pool of people drops drastically.

Using myself as a personal example, I can talk about my biggest goals:

→ Growing my email marketing business and improving as the “athlete” I identify as.

I’ve been able to reach decent levels of success as I’ve spent time reflecting on my goals and setting my priorities straight.

I know what I want to achieve, so even at difficult times, I’ve always pulled through and persevered.

And the more times I’ve done that, the more times I’ve outlasted someone who had the same goal but got distracted after facing the same challenges.

Over time, this virtuous cycle acts as a kind of positive reinforcement, making me more and more resilient in future challenges.

But enough about me. Here’s the takeaway for you:

Whatever the field you’re pursuing success in, find the WHY behind what you’re going for.

And lean on it whenever times get tough.

You won’t get what you’re looking for in a week.

Or a month.

But if you keep doing what you know you have to, there’s no doubt the odds of success are in your favor.

At the end of the day, it comes down to how much you really want it.

In life and business, there’s a lag between inputs and outputs.

The work you put in doesn’t pay dividends instantly.

This is both the beauty of life and the reason why most people never reach their goals.

“Will this be worth it?”
“Will all my hard work be in vain?”

Many of us ask these questions, but how you react to them defines your end result.

If asking them discourages you from taking action, you won’t make it.

If it encourages you to work twice as hard and not leave any stones unturned, you’ll succeed.

But in either case, be aware of the natural input-output lag to keep moving toward your goals with realistic expectations.

Cause at the end of the day, if you’re prepared to stay in the game for years and decades, the potential is limitless.

2 low-hanging fruits I pick when doing a Klaviyo audit

Patience isn’t good.

Impatience isn’t bad.

Or vice versa.

I’ve spent a lot of time learning to leverage both patience and impatience in my life and business.

Cause as with so many other things in life, these concepts are not black & white.

Personally, I’ve adopted the following approach:

→ Take action impatiently
→ Expect results patiently

How so, you might ask?

Well, whenever I make decisions for my business or my clients’ businesses, I’ll try to move to implementation as quickly as possible.

This is because “plans don’t work unless I do”.

There’s no way to get data, validate a strategy, and double down until I put the strategy into practice.

However, once the action steps are taken, we need to follow through until we have enough data to either confirm or invalidate our previous decisions.

Being too impatient at this stage might lead to abandoning a perfect strategy as a result of not giving it enough time to prove itself.

So to sum up my approach for anyone looking to adopt a similar one, here’s what I’ll leave you with:

Patience and impatience are like yin and yang. ☯️

Find a balance between them to make the most out of these opposing forces.

How to create early sunset email into a welcome flow

Email attributed revenue ≠ Email performance

I’ve onboarded brands with 35-40% Klaviyo-attributed revenue whose email is a mess.

And brands with 15-25% who already have the fundamentals well in place.

Although many agencies and brands still use attributed revenue as their north star metric, there are many reasons why that’s not the be-all and end-all truth of your performance.

Some factors that impact Klaviyo revenue:

1️⃣ Attribution window

You can artificially increase the attributed revenue by increasing the attribution window in Klaviyo.

2️⃣ Giving sign-up offer in pop-up vs. only in welcome flow

Giving the offer in pop-up decreases friction and likely increases conversions, but the revenue won’t be attributed to Klaviyo.

3️⃣ Product catalogue

One SKU stores rarely reach high attributed revenues but still benefit from email marketing in various ways:

 → Feeding acquisition team with feedback collected via emails
→ Driving product adoption with post-purchase education
→ Implementing referral programs

As you can see from the examples, the optimal attributed revenue is highly contextual.

That said, I get why people still talk about it. It’s easier to explain to a non-email expert.

But it’s important to know there are much more to focus on based on business-specific goals.

Instead of obsessing over attribution, obsess over:

→ ZPD collection
→ Removing friction
→ Subscription to conversion
→ Increasing LTV
→ Brand building

This way, the overall impact for the business will far outperform that of the attribution aficionados.
