I’ve been seeing a wave of videographer job posts lately—and too many of them are packed with 🚩🚩🚩

A few common red flags:

🚩 “We need one video, but also 10 reels, drone footage, editing, motion graphics, and voiceovers.”
That’s not a solo project—that’s an entire media team. Be real about the scope (and budget).

🚩 Budget: $500–$5,000
This tells me you either don’t know what you need, or you’re hoping to get champagne on a beer budget. A single well-produced brand video alone can run $5K+.

🚩 “Looking for someone who can shoot, edit, and post all content weekly”
Cool, but are you supplying a brief? A shot list? Feedback loop? Or just expecting someone to magically “go viral”?

If you're hiring a videographer, clarity and respect for the craft go a long way. 

Good creative starts with a solid partnership—not vague expectations and an impossible to-do list.

I put a ton of energy into planning, picking gear, and traveling to capture content for my clients. Most trips these days, it’s just me—solo.

On social, it probably looks glamorous… and honestly, parts of it are. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve had to learn how to protect my time. Balancing seeing new places, trying new things, staying locked in for shoots, interviews, and still running my agency with a lean crew—it’s a lot, but it’s the dream.

No complaints. This is everything I prayed for years ago.

This morning I was up early grabbing sunrise footage in Portland. The city gives me a bit of Grand Rapids energy—just with a totally different landscape.

While I was flying the drone, a garbage truck driver watched me for a few minutes. When I finally looked over, he laughed and said, “Man, I thought you were tripping out staring straight up like that.” I joked back, “Thank you, Jesus,” and we ended up chatting.

He walked over while waiting for another truck to arrive, so I showed him the screen—300+ feet of the Portland skyline. We both stood there taking it in. I asked if the sunrises always looked like this. He smiled and said, “Honestly… they get even better.”

That stuck with me. The pride he had in his city, the warmth in his voice. Not too many generations back, we had a garbage truck driver in my family—so it hit home.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be “rich.” The world chases money, status, things… but the real wealth is character, family, experiences, and how we honor God through it all.

In 2025 I planned on doing fractional marketing for brands or SaaS companies. And we have done that.

But what has propelled our growth is our knack for getting things done with websites and videos. 

I've personally launched several websites and visited places all over the US and one international to create video content.

I’m an incredibly direct person.

Lately I’ve been leaning on ChatGPT to help me tailor messages, but even then… people are people.

You can do the research, read the room, run the personality tests, and still land on a phrase that rubs someone the wrong way. So I try not to beat myself up chasing the “perfect” wording.

That’s also why I still value in-person so much. Meetings, time together, real conversations—it clears up what text can’t.

I've been running and gunning this week. Time for some RnR in Willamette Valley for a couple days.
