When I grow up I want to be Christina Le.

And now there’s a company helping me realize that dream.

As most of you know, Christina Le is my biggest inspiration.

And why wouldn’t she be? 

She’s a badass.

So I’ve devoted my life to being exactly like her.

And I mean EXACTLY.

I first began by subscribing to all the same newsletters as her.

Then tuning into the same shows.

Then I started shopping at all the stores that she shops at.

It wasn’t enough.

So a few weeks ago, I messaged a company I knew could take this obsession to the next level.

I needed custom merchandise. 

The type of stuff that’s one of one.

For me to complete my transformation, everything Christina owned had to become two of two.

I saw that she had some super high quality merch coming in from Stran Promotional Solutions.

(Don’t ask me how I knew)

But I immediately messaged my friend Amanda Wood at Stran to replicate everything that Christina had coming.

“Don’t you think the world needs more Christinas?” I said.

Amanda understood the assignment immediately.

Within 24 hours I had custom branded merch on its way to Toronto.

All that was left was to demonstrate my complete dedication to Christina.

I knew she’d be excited for me.

Not disturbed, like all of my friends and family kept telling me she would be.

Some people you meet, you just know they’ll change the world. 

I knew that about Maggie before she ever did.

In 2019, I watched the woman I love cry on our couch.

And it killed me that I didn’t know how to help her.

We’d just moved to a new city, she’d started law school, and she didn’t know a single person.

And as we all know, making friends as adults is hard.

She’s always valued deep, meaningful friendships over big social circles. 

Which made leaving her hometown even harder.

That year, I watched her face moments of painful rejection. 

Someone she’d hoped to connect with avoided her in class, kept her at arm’s length during social events, and made it pretty clear they didn’t want to hang out.

But Maggie isn’t someone who stays down for long.

She started asking herself why friendship feels so hard for adults, and what it would take to make it easier. 

And she quickly figured out that rejection is rarely personal. 

Most of the time, it has more to do with the other person’s timing, priorities, or insecurities than anything about you.

And the quickest way to find your people is to always show up as yourself.

She knew she wasn’t the only person going through this, so she decided to do something about it. 

In 2022, she took everything she’d learned and launched a friend-focused business in Toronto. 

She called it “Happier” and it took off pretty much instantly. 

After the first event, every single event thereafter was sold out. 

Within weeks, she was running events where 50+ people showed up, every time ready to connect.

The media noticed. 

And after her first two events, she ended up on Global News and the Toronto star.

Teaching viewers about the loneliness epidemic, and how adults can make real friends again.

I knew I saw something in her. Now everyone else was seeing it too.

And I’m more proud of her than she’ll ever know.

Maggie stepped away from running the business last year, but what she built didn’t stop. 

Now there are dozens of companies doing the same thing.

And she’s always excited when she sees other people on the same mission as her. 

Because she’s always known something most people miss: social health isn’t optional.

It’s the foundation for everything else.

Our happiness, our mental health, even our ambition.

The fact is, when you have meaningful relationships, you live longer, recover faster from stress, and bounce back quicker when life knocks you down.

She’s still spreading that message today.

She’d never say it herself, but I’ve seen her turn one of the hardest chapters of her life into a movement that’s already helping thousands.

And she’s just getting started.

You don’t get to meet people like Maggie very often.

I feel very lucky that I get to call her my wife one day.

Oh, and that person she was trying so hard to be friends with back then? It turns out they were going through their own hardships.

Her and Maggie are inseparable now.

Recently, an airline lost our baggage. I can't name names, but...

Let’s call them Vueling Airlines.

We’ve sent them over 20 emails, DM’d back and forth with them on Instagram, and they’ve done nothing but ignore us or delay.

There were some irreplaceable things in that suitcase, which makes the whole thing feel even crappier. 

We’re in the middle of reporting them to consumer protection bodies, but we're at our wits end. 

And their response to all of this has been really upsetting.

All it took was some online shaming. Who woulda thunk it? 

I really appreciate you all chiming in, tagging people, and resharing it.

It shouldn’t take this much effort to get a basic resolution.

90 days of waiting. 20+ emails. Endless forms. Chatbots that send you in circles.

In their case, “help center” is an oxymoron.

Do better next time, Vueling.

“The moment firing them comes to mind, do it,” he said.

“Isn’t that a bit too early?” I asked.

In June, I let go of a teammate I was really excited about.

To really put things in perspective, 

Over the last two years, I’ve looked at over 1,500 portfolios.

And I’ve only liked six.

Am I a snob? Maybe. But I’m also proud of my team.

Everyone is excellent at what they do.

They’re reliable.

They communicate clearly.

It’s my job as a leader to protect that—and keep finding more people who raise the bar.

So when I found someone who seemed like a perfect fit, I was pumped.

His edits were unique. His energy was great.

We planned to put him on bigger clients as soon as he was trained.

And at first, he crushed it.

Great work. On time. Even going above and beyond.

But quickly… things changed.

Three weeks in, timelines started slipping.

And worse, he stopped communicating.

He’d say things like: “I’ll send it over that edit that’s due today by 6pm.”

Then go dark for a full 24 hours.

 I’m big on communication.

If you say 6pm, I expect 6pm.

By that fourth week, I had that gut feeling.

So I met up with Tobi Oluwole in Paris.

And he said:

“The moment you think about firing someone, you should do it.”

I’d already had two candid conversations with the editor.

I let him know this was a dealbreaker.

But nothing changed.

Missed deadlines turned into frustrated clients.

And frustrated clients meant broken trust.

So in week five, I let him go.

Because Tobi didn’t just say one thing that day.

He said something else I’ll never forget:

“If someone is taking your money and keeping you up at night, they need to go.”

Well, now I get it.

Trust your gut.

If you’re questioning someone, talk to them.
 
But if it becomes a repeat conversation?

Do what’s right for the business.

Great culture is hard to build.

And incredibly easy to lose.

Don’t compromise it just to avoid a hard conversation.

What's a valuable lesson you've learned recently?

Going viral doesn’t f*ing matter.

Most of the time, it kinda sucks. Picture this:

You finally finish up a video you’re proud of.

You wrestle with the caption, rewrite it five times…

And then you decide it's good enough.

You hit post.

You refresh the page.

Once. Twice. Thirty times.

12 views.

“Ah, another flop,” you sigh.

You shut your laptop and head to bed.

Then the next morning…

Boom.

1 million views.

“Holy sh*t! We did it!” you think.

You open the backend and check the numbers.

0 sales.

“That’s okay,” you tell yourself.

“The more people we reach, the more chances we have to sell.”

Two days go by. Then three.

The video hits 5 million views.

Still no sales.

That’s the story for most brands that go viral.

Meanwhile, the brand that took time to understand their audience?

They made something that wasn’t flashy.

Just useful.

They posted 4 videos that got 3,000 views collectively…

And had their biggest sales month ever.

The reality is:

Viral content fuels dopamine.

Targeted content fuels dollars.

Don’t fall into the virality trap.

Sure, it looks great in your all-hands meeting.

But that view count won’t save your marketing budget when the cuts hit.

Spend a month talking to your customers.

Rewatch your sales calls.
 
Listen for what they’re not saying directly.

Then piece together what actually moves your audience through the buyer’s journey.

Once you understand the perspective they need, and the objections you’ll face, you can confidently create a content series that builds trust, handles objections, and gets buyers ready to say yes faster.

Content doesn't sleep. 

But your sales team has to.

And they’ll thank you for showing up to calls where buyers are already ready to sign.

Make things that put your customers at ease and build trust with them

After all, it’s better for 10 of your best prospects to find you than 10,000 random people who’ll never buy.
