We often think of storytelling as a talent — something you’re either born with or not.

But in reality, storytelling is less about talent and more about habits.

💡 Here’s why:

Once, a colleague jokingly said, “𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑜𝑠ℎ, 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑚𝑢𝑠𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑎 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦𝑡𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑟 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑑!”

I smiled and then pulled out some of my earliest practice videos.

Let’s just say — they were far from “natural.” Awkward pauses. Nervous expressions. Flat delivery.

It wasn’t magic. It was muscle building.

Just like you can’t get fit by going to the gym once, you can’t become a great storyteller by telling one or two stories. You need consistent practice until it becomes part of who you are.

Here are 3 storytelling habits that can transform your influence:
1️⃣ 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝑫𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚 – Notice moments from your life, your work, your clients. Keep a “story bank” to draw from anytime.
2️⃣ 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑬𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑯𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒔 – Start with curiosity, surprise, or tension to keep people leaning in.
3️⃣ 𝑹𝒆𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕 & 𝑹𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒆 – After telling a story, ask yourself: What worked? What didn’t? Small tweaks compound over time.

When you build these habits, storytelling stops being a “special skill for big moments” and becomes a natural part of your communication DNA.

I grew up in a small town where dreams often felt bigger than the streets we walked on.
The roads were narrow, but our aspirations were wide.

I still remember standing on the school stage, trembling while giving my first speech on Independence Day. My voice shook, but my heart swelled with pride as I spoke about the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom.

Back then, I didn’t know I would one day leave my hometown, work across countries, and build a career in the corporate world and later take a leap into the world of storytelling and coaching.

But through every journey - from the small town to global boardrooms.
One lesson has stayed with me: Never forget your roots.

Our freedom fighters fought not just for the nation, but for the dream that every Indian, no matter where they come from, has the right to rise.
And I am a living example of that dream.

Most people think negotiation is a battle of logic.

But the truth?
 👉 Logic makes people think.
 👉 Stories make people say YES.

That’s why the best negotiators aren’t the ones with the sharpest arguments.
They’re the ones with the right story at the right time.

💡 Example for a Working Professional
Instead of saying:

You could say:

🌿 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐯𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐬 ✨

Recently, during our 𝐈𝐤𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐢 2𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲, I was introducing #Palak to our guests, Haritosh Srivastav Sir and Vandana Bansal Ma’am. As we were talking about how brave #Palak is, Haritosh Sir shared something simple yet unforgettable — he gave it a name: 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐯𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐬.

Because yes, it’s very easy to talk about past failures… but incredibly difficult to talk about current failures.
🩹 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐬 are easy — they’ve healed, they no longer hurt, and sometimes they even become medals of pride.
💔 But 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬… wounds are raw, tender, and still in the making of their story.

And that’s where Palak comes in.
One of the strongest kids I have ever met.
In our 𝐈𝐤𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐢 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 (July 2025), she didn’t hide behind her scars. She chose to share her wounds — the struggles she is still going through, the fears she is still learning to overcome.

The way she spoke that day… it wasn’t just words. It was courage wrapped in innocence, pain wrapped in honesty, and hope shining quietly through her eyes. 

That moment taught me something I’ll carry forever:
Real courage is not in saying, “𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝,”
but in gently whispering, “𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠… and I’m not ashamed to say it.”

For the longest time, I couldn’t do this myself. Talking about my wounds felt impossible. But then came these children — children who hold nothing back, children who trust, children who inspire. And slowly, through them, I am learning that 𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. It is humanity in its purest form. 

Maybe real growth is not just about healing our wounds, but about sharing them — because sometimes the world doesn’t just watch us heal, it helps us heal. 

So here’s my gentle question to you:
𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐬… 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐨?
