Ikea intentionally places their stores further outside city centers so that you need to drive to them.

This way you won't want to waste the trip and come home empty-handed.

Their stores are also maze-like forcing you to pass by every single item they sell. Once you go in, you have to walk through the entire store.

And much like casinos, there aren't any windows, which makes you stay focused on the task at hand.

When you are about to check out, you are typically greeted by the smell of cinnamon buns, intentionally linking the painful part of spending your hard-earned money with the soothing scent of home baking.
