My Journey 
When I was 23 I decided to buy a Taco Del Mar restaurant... I knew I had made a huge mistake at 2pm the first day when only 3 customers had walked in... (and two of them were my parents haha) 
For 5 years I worked hard to grow sales every way I could think of and in the end, tripled our revenue which still didn't seem to matter on the profit side. (I lost a lot of money 💰)

The one thing that I seemed to be the best at in the restaurant endeavor was marketing and getting people in the door. 

Fast forward to 2014 when my wonderful wife Carmen (definitely my better half) started a modest baby clothing line and was selling at craft markets. 

I asked if I could test running a few ads on Facebook... and the rest is history. I learned every up-and-coming strategy and tactic and helped grow the small start-up to a multi-million dollar company and still growing!

Since then we have acquired multiple DTC brands and have built an agency (upGrowth Commerce) to service our brands as well as others who are in a similar situation to us!

In 2019 we started the podcast "secrets to scaling your e-commerce brand" which is now in the top 50 business/marketing podcasts in multiple countries including Canada and the United States.

I just had someone put a cold calendar invite on my calendar as a sales outreach with a loom video attached.

1. WTF? 
2. How is this legal? 
3. Anyone else have this happen? 
4. This blocked time that I would normally book internal meetings.

The amount of times I look through 15 or 20 comments and every single one has either been copied and pasted by a VA or straight from AI is ridiculous

Recently, I’ve spent some time engaging with some of the best content on the platform and commenting in a big way and have tens of thousands of impressions on those comments because every other comment is just garbage

Wake up LinkedIn.

Be a human it’s the only thing you’re better at than a robot

🚀 Two weeks ago, this brand was spending $4/day with a 0.78 ROAS on TikTok Shop
Today, they’ve done over $110K in the first 14 days of the month and they’re now having $30K+ days. 

Here’s the exact 7-step system we used to blitz scale it On (that you can steal)

It started like most Tiktok Shop turnarounds:

✅ Great product + PR (Shark Tank, Dude Perfect, Good Housekeeping)
 
❌ No system
❌ Random creator outreach
❌ Ads running on fumes
We just brought structure!!!

Step 1: Audit everything 🕵️‍♂️
 
Plugged into Partner Center, ran a full TikTok Shop audit, and found:
 
• Hero products weren’t obvious
• Listings didn’t convert
• Creators had zero direction

Fix that first. Everything else compounds.

Step 2: Fix the assets 🎨

Rebuilt image stacks and wrote tight product briefs.

If a creator can’t “get it” in 10 seconds, they won’t post it.

Each product now tells a 6-frame story with hooks, proof, and clear benefits.

Step 3: Build a creator hub 💬

Created a WhatsApp group + Notion page with:

 • Hooks
 • Product info
 • Deadlines
 • FAQs

Now creators know exactly what to post. No chasing. No confusion.

Step 4: Recruit from 3 directions 🔁

 1️⃣ Our existing community
 2️⃣ Net new outreach through Reacher
 3️⃣ Creator lists from our TikTok rep

Result → creators were asking to go live and run flash sales.

Step 5: Commission tiers that motivate 💰

 Open Collabs: 10% + 5% ads
 Taplink: 12% + 3% ads
 Non-VIPs: 15%
 VIPs: 20%

Stop paying everyone the same.

Reward the ones who can really move the needle.

Step 6: Kill bad ads. Relaunch clean 
 
Shut off the old $4/day campaign (0.78 ROAS).
 
Launched a clean campaign around hero products + best creative.
 
Doubled spend daily while ROAS held near 6x.

Step 7: Blitz to a big moment!!!

 Everything built toward Black Friday / Cyber Monday.
 Prepped creators early.
 Scheduled lives.
 Ran flash sales.

Now the account’s doing $30K+ days and it’s just getting started.

I realize that if you haven't gone HARD on TikTok shop you won't be able to to before BFCM 

But... 2026 will be the BIGGEST SHIFT into social commerce that we have seen. 

As AI content becomes more prevalent, HUMANS will crave human connection 

Which is why I believe that LIVE SHOPPING + Afilliate driven content will be the two biggest levers any brand can add to their arsensal.

it was November 2023 when I started to see Brock Mammoser posting about this new sales channel… 🤔

To be honest…

When he first was posting about TikTok Shop I could not understand all of the hype was about!

I assumed it was just another place to check out just like Facebook and Instagram had their shops and we all know how that went…

 Funny enough it probably took me about two months to realize why it was the biggest fundamental shift in the way that brands advertise that I had seen since Facebook ad started to get big and I owned my first drop shipping e-commerce brand called hover board authority and basically grew the whole thing with Google search ads ha ha ha 

But then I understood it… 

I hated working with influencers because I never knew what kind of result I was going to get! 

But TikTok shop created a win-win environment for creators and brands to get exactly what each other wanted. 

That’s what I always wanted out of the affiliate marketing, but could never quite get to it working this way!

And so January 2024 I invited Brock to talk to my then incredibly small team (at the time) about Tiktok Shop

At that point, I knew that within the next six months, I would no longer be a brand owner as we were actively in talks to Sell the brands.

 back to Brock… We spent two hours peppering him with questions about Tiktok Shop because of the time he was the only person that I knew who knew anything about the platform!

And he literally answered everything for us!

We decided to take on our first a few clients at $1000 a month +15% of revenue 

What a mistake!

We thought we could slow roll and we definitely couldn’t!

We tried about five other different models of working with brands and in 2024 alone worked with close to 60 brands!

We failed a lot!

But through that… We learned a lot as well!

The funny thing?

That screenshot that you see is actually only from around March of this year because I didn’t even realize that we needed to become official TikTok shop partners to unlock a bunch of support.

I wasn’t used to the platform actually carrying that much! 😆😆

So… When you see those numbers below and the fact that we are one of the top five agencies in all of North America on Tiktok Shop…

It has come with a lot of learning a lot of heartache, but man man am I ever glad that I had those conversations with Brock and decided to go all in.

The amount of brands that we have helped fundamentally change their entire marketing systems is insane!

I am so proud of our team and what they have accomplished but even more than that what is to come!

We are going to hit 1 billion video views from affiliates alone that we have driven this year at Social Commerce Club 🤯


Our goal is to drive $1 billion a net new revenue and social commerce in the next three years and the crazy thing?

I bet we will head that goal within the next year!

This time last year I was in NYC pitching one of the biggest beauty brand houses in the world.

I could have done the meeting via zoom… but I wanted to pitch IRL (plus 2 nights in NYC is fun!) 

In the end…

We didn’t get any of the accounts 😆🤷‍♂️

We got the repitch again earlier this year… and still didn’t get it 🫤🤦‍♂️

We didn’t have enough big beauty case studies at the time.

I get it. 

But in the meantime we’ve signed and worked with some other MASSIVE brands at Social Commerce Club and scaled some HUGE! 

It’s a prrivledge that they trust us and we deliver TBH

Today Just signed another 10 figure brand 😱

Amazing to have the trust of big brands on a new channel 

Maybe just maybe the third time we pitch the allusive NYC beauty house we’ll get it! 

In the meantime we’re having way too much fun to look back! ❤️

Me: “Not could be cannibalizing your other channels… you ARE.”

That moment hit hard!!!

Because here’s what a lot of brands are doing right now:

They take their main hero SKU
Sell it full price everywhere else

Then make it stupid cheap on TikTok Shop “just to get sales” + get momentum

And then they’re shocked when

Amazon flatlines

TOTAL MER blows up

Retail partners start asking questions
TikTok didn’t break your unit economics.

You did!!

The way I think about TikTok Shop:

It’s the only channel that will pay you (even breakeven) to give you insane impressions.
If you even make $1 profit there

And you’re getting a $30 CPM worth of awareness for free
You’re winning.

The problem...

Most brands aren’t tracking the halo.
So they see “low-margin TikTok orders”

Instead of “cheap reach that lifts Amazon / Shopify / retail”.

If I were rebuilding your TikTok Shop strategy from scratch, I’d do 3 things:

1️⃣ Protect the hero
 
No more “fire sale” pricing on the SKU that drives your brand.
 Use:

 – Smaller bundles
 – Trial sizes
 – TikTok-only variants
 
And keep price architecture consistent across channels.

2️⃣ Define your blended model
 
Decide up front:
 – What MER are you happy with including TikTok
 – How you’ll measure halo (Amazon, Shopify, retail lift)
 – What CPM you’re effectively getting from organic + creator content

If TikTok is breakeven but blended MER is up and CPMs are down… keep going.

3️⃣ Make TikTok the awareness engine, not the profit center (at first) 
 
Creators get you reach.
 
Reach fills retargeting pools on Meta, Google, Amazon, retail.
 
Your job is to:

 – Seed a ton of creators
 – Let TikTok Shop break even
 – Harvest the profit off-platform

TikTok Shop doesn’t have to be “super profitable”. (at first)

It has to be super scalable.

Curious where you’re at...

Another day… another 100k + for this brand on TikTok shop 🔥

Very little discounting 

Huge halo on top of this to Amazon and DTC!

The screenshot is GMV max attribution only -the actual sales yesterday were between three and four times this!

The craziest part about being in the Tiktok Shop ecosystem is realizing the 8020 of service providers in the space.

I am going to be honest… 
I am shocked that we are going to be the only platinum partner as of next month  at Social Commerce Club 

But I will tell you, our team has put in insane hours of blood, sweat and tears to figure this out. 

Also, I have to say from a leadership standpoint. It’s been difficult.  

I have now had five people in the role of head of Tiktok Shop because it’s such a new channel and figuring out what the leadership and process needs to look like has been difficult over the last couple of years! 

But we are winning! And it feels good to help brands completely turn their entire marketing ecosystem on its head and go social commerce first!

As a Canadian I am so thankful I get to have 2 THANKSGIVINGS!! 
So... Here's what I'm thankful for today 👇 

1. Getting to be part of the biggest shift in consumer behaviour since the iphone (see Social Commerce) 

2. My incredibly capable team at Social Commerce Club (just saw yesterday that 93% of TikTok Shop clients are meeting or excedding revenue and contribution margin goals) 

3. The 28K of you here on Linkedin who follow me (and listen to my long rants on how the world and business is and should be!) 

4. The freedoms and opportunities that we have in our business environment in NA - it's truly astounding the constant opportunities that seem to pop up!

I found an INSANE stat about TikTok shop creators this weekend that EVERY brand needs to understand before going HARD on the platform. 👇 

1. there are 3.5 million creators signed up on tiktok shop in the US

2. (Here's the part that will blow your mind) Of those 3.5 million creators... less than 50K of them produce more than 1k of GMV (sales) a month. 

First... I have been saying this for the last 2 years. 

There are so few AMAZING creators. 

Second - your job as a brand is to find these creators and keep them happy and working for your brand. 

We've known this as the case at @socialcommclub
 for the past 2 years and built an INSANELY high performing network. (that we plug new brands into from day 1) 

The next thought I have is around strategy if you can't get those creators to pay attention. 

This isn't something that I talk about that often TBH. 

BUILD YOUR BRAND CONTENT on your TikTok page 

Seriously. 

Get someone fulltime to crank out at least 10 videos a day. (stay away from fully AI btw - TikTok is deprioritizing that right now) 

Look at your competitors top performing content creators on @FastMoss
 and use those videos as inspo for your brand. 

Am I saying don't work with affilaites?? 

No not at all! 

Affilaites are so important to your overall strategy. 

What I AM SAYING is... 

Control what you can at first. 

And you can control your own brand content and how much you put out daily. 

So do that.
