Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)

Hilti Schweiz

As Head of Product & Trade Marketing, I led a team of 9 employees, responsible for all trade-, channel-, and product-marketing acitivities, as well as all sales trainings and new employee onboardings.

• Overall responsibility for development, communication and execution of our trade strategies and value propositions in our key trade applications
• Tie down change from product-centric to customer/trade-centric marketing and redesign established processes to foster a closer sales-marketing collaboration, while keeping ownership for all product launches in the market (over 60 p.a.)
• Ensure competence build-up in sales force and new employees through strong sales trainings and internal academy setup
• Build a great team with a strong performance culture to deliver tangible results and have fun along the way

Head of Product & Trade Marketing

Reporting directly to the general manager, I had the overall responsibility to roll out our new strategic, opportunity-oriented go-to-market approach in Switzerland  as lead market for the global project (Project Evolution was the biggest global Hilti initiative in decades).

• Includes roll-out of salesforce.com to over 350 users in sales, engineering, customer service, retail, and marketing functions.
• Close sparring partner for global and regional rollout teams with Switzerland being among the biggest countries to go-live in Wave 1.

Project Leader Go-to-Market & Digitalization

For two years, I led the sales team for building construction in Northwestern Switzerland:

• Manage 7 account managers and recruit, develop, and advance talents
• Execute the segment strategy in my region and grow the 9 million CHF P&L
• Foster relationships and increase engagement within the customer portfolio

I restructured the region, took key staffing decisions (60% new hires) and successfully built a high performing team within the first 12 months. 

Together with the team improved customer trust in Hilti and substaintially increased engagement and loyalty, achieving the second highest sales growth (both im absolute and relative terms) of all 27 Swiss sales teams in 2019 (23% growth y-o-y) and signing & delivering the biggest fleet management contract of 2019.

Area Sales Manager

In my first sales role, I managed relationships with 250+ SHK / HVAC clients in Central Switzerland with great success within 9 months: 

• Achieved strong growth in net sales (6x) and tool contract business (2.5x)
• Coached fellow account managers in solution selling after a few months in the field

Account Manager / Sales Rep

Sulzer

Reporting directly to the Group Executive Committee (Chief Marketing Officer), I was responsible for the group-wide Go-to-Market and Sales Force Effectiveness projects:

• KAM: Implemented the first group-wide Key Account Management approach
• CRM: Led the project to develop the business requirements and specs for the Sulzer Global CRM
• Value Pricing: Developed, programmed, and rolled-out a value-pricing model for capital project business

Strategic Marketing Manager

I started as a junior and got promoted to manager after 12 months. Key topics:

• Supported executive management on strategy development for group, division, and BU level
• Evaluated merger & acquisition targets, built financial models, and participated in acqusition execution
• Lead the sales work stream during the post merger & integration (PMI) project of the new rotating equipment service division (100 locations, 3600 employees, 800m CHF sales)

Should you start a #humanoid company now? No ❌ Why? You are to late❗
(and that's a lesson for all founders 👇)

First: Humanoids.

Sorted by City. 

Crazy. 

Lesson: If China decides "go", then it's GO! and as history has shown: Usually that means GoodBye for anyone else. 

Another one: DefenseTech. 

Hearing a lot of startup founders that want to go there because it's "hot", like humanoids. 

But remember: You are 5 years late. Starting now means catching up against the companies that already raised billions (and got most VC and Government support).

Generally: 
- When everyone is already doing it, it's not the time to start
- There is only one exception: You have a completely novel idea/approach. but by definition, then you are not doing the same ;)

Yesterday was 2025 scaleup event #5 - the last of this year:

Another highlight 😍 Why? 2 things:

1️⃣ 100% curated events: Only Execs of Switzerland's premier scaleups. So these people are THE leaders of our #startup ecosystem 💪

2️⃣ Time is scarce - they all have urgent other things ongoing. Not only 100 other event invites, also year-end, Xmas, etc. But they still come and feedback is top:

🗨️ "I had a super interesting discussion" 

🗨️ "We both are going through a similar challenge" 

That's exactly why I keep investing time in "scaling" the scaleup chapter 😏

✅ Flywheel starts TURNING

Over the next few years, the #Swiss startup ecosystem will enter it's next stage.

I like connecting people. And I believe there is tremendous value of the right communities 🚀

Building and scaling a #deeptech company is incredibly hard and against all odds.

Being able to connect with people with the same challenges day in day out is incredibly valuable.

Factories don’t give you perfect rules, perfect symmetry, or clean data.

Key insights:

🔹 Scale-ups face fundamentally different challenges than early-stage startups, requiring a dedicated peer community where leaders can exchange highly specific, experience-based solutions.

🔹 The Scaleup Executives Chapter fills this gap, rapidly growing to 140 members and establishing clear, high-bar criteria for what defines a scale-up in Switzerland.

🔹 Effective support for scale-ups requires involving not just founders and C-level leaders, but also second-line managers, who often oversee large teams and are closer to operational challenges.

🔹 The community aims to build a long-term talent and leadership pool, enabling experienced scale-up operators to stay engaged in the ecosystem post-exit and strengthening Switzerland’s ability to grow future large tech companies.

🔹 The inaugural Scaleup Summit demonstrated the chapter’s ambition, offering concrete support on topics like growth financing, inorganic strategy, political advocacy, and especially AI adoption—a critical area where scale-ups lack the resources of corporates and the native skills of young startups.

🤔 How do you define "#scaleup" ⁉️ I get that question very often (because I curate my chapter like a hardcore bouncer 😂)

Truth #1: The is not one correct and widely used definition 😲 (ok.. there's an OECD one, but it's useless/way to early-stage)

Also true: If you ask 5 people you get 7 opinions 😉

So earlier this year, I set out and defined it for the Swiss #startup ecosystem:

📜 "Scaleups are facing the well-known “pain of scaling” – the moment when systems, processes, and approaches that worked in the early startup phase start to break, requiring the company to evolve into a more enterprise-grade organization."

That's pretty flexible... yes, but: 

While this transformation can look different depending on the industry, scaleups typically pass several of the following thresholds:

💰 #Revenue: 8–10 million CHF in annual recurring revenue (ARR) or trailing 12-month (TTM) revenue

👥 #Team Size: 80–100 full-time employees

📈 #Funding Stage: Series B or later, or cumulative venture funding of 30 million CHF or more

🌍 #Internationalization: Active operations in multiple countries

🧑‍💼 #Leadership: A specialized leadership team including several non-founder C-level executives and VPs

Yes - you can argue the thresholds need to be different..

But at least we now have ONE definition that I can use to curated access to the Scaleup Exec Chapter 👍
