I literally spend my entire day here They just took a strategic leap over everyone! Microsoft’s Copilot Merchant Program (launched April 18, 2025) and Perplexity’s one‑click "Buy with Pro" hinted at a commerce‑driven AI future Mass fashion never even organized around TikTok... now it will go dark And partnering with Shopify - one of the world’s largest e‑commerce platforms gives OpenAI a ready‑made ecosystem and merchant network that rivals can’t match overnight It's all pointing to the rise of agentic commerce Both companies are pursuing AI‑first visions Shopify’s leaked memo urging teams to "hire an AI before you hire a human" and OpenAI’s push for ChatGPT to "act, not just answer" Together, they’re laying the groundwork for AI agents to autonomously shop, negotiate, and transact on users’ behalf, heralding a fundamental shift in how commerce will be conducted online And it couldn't be better for community direct to manufacturer models! Embedding Shopify’s checkout into ChatGPT turns every single creator's digital storefront into an immediately shoppable audience and every small‑batch maker into a global merchant exactly the conditions under which community‑first, direct‑to‑manufacturer models thrive Just wow and a massive zuck you to Meta, X, Google, TikTok I dig it so much and understand exactly what to do and have been preparing for it for years
